Tim MacMahon (2:01 PM)
Thanks for joining me for the weekly Mavs chat. Fire away with your questions.
What's your take on Fisher starting? Do you agree with Carlisle's decision, or should Collison continue to start and Fisher come off the bench?
Tim MacMahon (2:03 PM)
I think Collison forced Carlisle's hand with his shaky performance. Somebody in the organization put it well to me the other day: Collison plays really poorly when he gets mentally fatigued. That happened way too often with him as a starter. I don't like starting a 38-year-old point guard who was just a good role player in his prime, but it's the Mavs' best move right now. I haven't talked to anyone other than Collison who disagrees with the decision.
Any word on if Dirk started any basketball related activities...I know Holger made the trip to Dallas.
Tim MacMahon (2:04 PM)
No official word, although I seriously doubt that Holger would fly in from Germany unless he's working with Dirk on the floor. I know that Dirk hasn't started practicing with the team yet.
Benny Blanco (Bronx)
Despite what Cuban says about the possibility of this team coming back next year...... no chance I see that happening. With that said do you agree that the only real keeper here is OJ?? long term wise
Tim MacMahon (2:06 PM)
I assume you're only talking about vets. If not, I think Jae Crowder and Sarge James are keepers as low-priced role players. OJ Mayo is the only vet newcomer that has the potential to be a long-term foundation piece. Does that mean he'll be back with the Mavs? That probably depends on what the market is for him. He's going to get paid handsomely by somebody.
jason (new london tx)
is carlise in trouble, will he remain with the mavs if they miss the playoffs.
Tim MacMahon (2:07 PM)
The bars are apparently open early in New London. Why would Rick Carlisle be in trouble? He just signed a new contract and is only two years removed from one of the most surprising championship runs in NBA history. He's an elite coach who will be in Dallas for the foreseeable future.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
How do you think that the Dallas Mavericks will do this season in the NBA?
Tim MacMahon (2:08 PM)
My preseason prediction was 42-40 and the eighth seed in the West. That might be a bit optimistic. At the time, I thought Dirk would be playing by now. He appears to still be at least two weeks away.
With the signing of Fisher at PG, do you think there could be a trade coming for someone like Beaubois?
Tim MacMahon (2:10 PM)
Suffice to say that Robby B. is no longer considered untouchable. His only real value to the Mavs right now is as an expiring contract in trade discussions. He was inactive for the last game, with Rick Carlisle opting to dress rookie Jared Cunningham instead. That's pretty telling.
Tim MacMahon (2:13 PM)
Appreciate the questions, folks. Gotta cut it short today. Feel free to fire away at me on Twitter @espn_macmahon
