Tom Carpenter (11:00 AM)
Thanks to my friend Tony Ketz for forwarding along this ridiculous video of "The Reign Man" Shawn Kemp, who just may be the greatest in-game dunker ever. As Tony said, "Sometimes you need a reminder of how good some of these cats were." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qt9fMirt_qA ... Now, on to your questions!
What are ur thoughts on Drummond? Do u think he could return by monday?
Tom Carpenter (11:03 AM)
He could return by early next week, Drew, but you probably won't want to put him in your fantasy lineup until he's played at least a game or two. I'm far less hyped about him at this point, because it's taken him so long to get back. If he eventually gets into the starting lineup, though, he could be a nice contributor.
Mike Ho (Hong Kong)
Tom, what do you think of Kyle Lowry down the stretch? He has been disappointing and I can drop him for Tobias Harris.
Tom Carpenter (11:05 AM)
Yeah, Lowry has been an utter mess lately, Mike. He could turn things around, but right now I like Harris' potential better, so I'd move on.
Hi Tom, would you drop Kyrie Irving for Danny Green in a roto league?
Tom Carpenter (11:09 AM)
It sounds unlikely that he will play again this season, but realistically, he could be back for the final handful of game, and that could make a big difference for any fantasy team. That being said, if you don't have the roster space to wait it out, you should cut bait, Keanu, and add someone like Green, who can help you out in the interim.
chris (baton rouge)
Gordon Haywood is available. Do i drop Jammal Crawford for him? Who do you expect to be better rest of season?
Tom Carpenter (11:13 AM)
Assuming that Crawford can get back to full strength, I still like him better overall than Hayward, Chris. Obviously, Crawford hasn't looked good since returning from his ankle injury, but I think he'll turn it around.
Playoffs start on monday, im a little worried about Waiters and Knight. Do u see them both in the line up by monday?
Tom Carpenter (11:15 AM)
I do think that Knight will be back in the mix by next week. We'll have to wait to see what Waiter's exam reveals today before pegging him going forward. My guess is that it's a relatively minor thing that won't keep him out next week.
What is up with Kenneth Faried's playing time? He played 15 min last night (not sure if he got hurt or anything) and seems to be playing only 20-25 min a game anyway.
Tom Carpenter (11:20 AM)
Yeah, his role and playing time have been a bit sporadic of late, and that's pretty frustrating Alex. Two games back he had foul trouble, but not sure why he was so limited last night (maybe Chandler going off). Overall, his lack of minutes has to do with the Nuggets' deep and versatile roster, which allows coach Karl to just use guys based on matchups.
Good morning! Two questions: 1) should I hang on to AK47 with his minutes limit, and 2) which Dallas big man do you use - Kaman or Wright? Thanks for your help
Tom Carpenter (11:23 AM)
Hey, kat ... Tough call on AK47, since he's reportedly only 60 percent healthy and on a minutes restriction. Depends on with whom you'd replace him. Unless it's someone particularly intriguing I might wait it out to see if Kirilenko can get back up to speed. I just can't buy into Kaman, so I'd take Wright.
Help! (Fantasy and Beatles fan)
Drop an uncertain P.Gasol for J.McRoberts,Jonas V. or favors in h2h cat 9 playoffs weeks 22-23? Thanks Tom for info and chat's this season!
Tom Carpenter (11:26 AM)
Sounds like you need "not just anybody," but I'm not sure you'll find that with these guys. I want to wait for Gasol, because if he can get back in the mix soon, he clearly will be the best player from this group. But he only has one game between now and Monday, so even if he gets healthy you won't get anything back for a while. If you can't remain patient for Gasol, I'd go with Valanciunas.
Should my owners be worried about my back/hip for the final round of the playoffs?
Tom Carpenter (11:29 AM)
Not much info out there about this injury, so not sure I can give you a good answer here. Obviously, it's concerning that it seemingly came out of nowhere and right on the heels of a few red-hot performances. I'd say cross your fingers and hope that he returns soon.
I picked up P. Gasol last week, and currently in 1st place with playoffs starting week 22, hang on???
Tom Carpenter (11:30 AM)
Dan, I think this is exactly the situation to add and keep Gasol. You have an excellent team and can wait a bit to see if he can return to form. Hang on to him.
If John Wall continues to play like he has for the past few weeks (ie. shooting so well), is he all of a sudden a top 10 player?
Tom Carpenter (11:35 AM)
We can't expect him to shoot 52.4 percent from the field like he has this month, but if he can get his FG% up to something like 45 percent, then perhaps he could average something like 18 PPG, 8-plus APG with good steals and decent boards. I think realistically, that's his upside, which would make him worth a late second-round pick next season. I do believe in his abilities.
Lil Dimes of Horror (ATL)
What are your thoughts on A. Jamison after a 27pt explosion then a 3pts to back that up last night. Especially considering Gasol could be in the mix sooner than later. Im on a bye week. Should i weather the storm or should i go after someone like Josh McRoberts.
Tom Carpenter (11:37 AM)
That was just a fluke outing, LDH. His 3-point outing the next game pretty much proved that. I wouldn't waste my time with Jamison.
Any word on DeMarcus Cousins? When is he expected to return?
Tom Carpenter (11:39 AM)
Cousins reportedly worked out his sore thigh in practice yesterday and it sounds like he probably will be in the mix tonight, barring a setback. Tyreke Evans sounds less likely to roll tonight, though.
H2H Keeper ? = Need to lock in 1 of these 4 heading into 2013-2014. Please rank these Keeper Options-- Rubio (at 9th Rd value), Drummond (18th Rd Pick value), KFaried (8th Rd), OR Hibbert (6th Rd Pick)? Thanks Tom!
Tom Carpenter (11:42 AM)
Hey, Tim ... I would rank them in this order: Rubio (1), Drummond, Hibbert, Faried. Rubio clearly has the most upside next season and at 9th round, that's a steal.
What type of production can we expect from Rubio here on out? He has slowly made steps forward and then taken small steps back. He can't seem to remain too consistent. Any concerns during the playoff stretch?
Tom Carpenter (11:46 AM)
He has a sore groin, which forced him out of last night's game, though he said he could have returned. That's a bit concerning, considering his knee, but so long as he can battle through this malady, I expect Rubio to finish strongly, JJ -- of course that comes with the caveat that the dude just can't shoot. That's more of a hindrance in roto leagues than points leagues, though.
Is Spencer Hawes teh real deal? Or are we just getting built up for a massive let down...thanks
Tom Carpenter (11:49 AM)
During most of his six-year career, he's proved to be fool's gold. He pumps out some great stats for a couple of weeks then disappears for a couple of months. So I am predictably skeptical. History suggests that we should be prepared for a massive let down. However, the Sixers are so light on frontcourt talent that coach Collins appears set to ride Hawes ROS, so maybe he will finally prove worthy, kb.
Jon (Bozeman, MT)
Is it time to drop Love if you're playing in a roto league?
Tom Carpenter (11:52 AM)
Yes. Unless there is no other decent player on your waiver wire. Doesn't sound good for Love, so you'll be better off pumping in stats of some sort from other players.
Danny Green (San Antonio)
Whats with the hype? I dont know why i am ranked so high?
Tom Carpenter (11:54 AM)
Quality steals, 3s and an excellent FG% ... combine that with Tony Parker's absence and you are a pretty helpful fantasy player.
Derrick Rose? I crawled into playoffs. Life or death this week. Please help, cut or keep?
Tom Carpenter (11:56 AM)
Mike, I honestly think that Rose will be back by this weekend ... but obviously, that's nothing more than a blind guess. I'd hold onto him and hope he rolls.
Last week I mentioned that webster had a bit of upside and took a chance and I was rewarded tremendously. Do you think I can keep it up? Or does Beal cap my upside?
Tom Carpenter (11:59 AM)
Beal's return to the mix almost certainly will limit what Webster can do for the long term. That having been noted, I think Webster should still be a legit contributor as the season winds down. And who knows, it's entirely possible that he just stays hot.
Tom Carpenter (12:00 PM)
Good luck to all of you throughout your playoffs! I'll see you back here next week for another Q&A session!
