Myron Medcalf (3:02 PM)
Hello all. National championship on the line tonight. I can't wait to see it.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
What Players that are in Tonight's NCAA Men's College Basketball National Championship Game will be in the NBA this Coming season?
Myron Medcalf (3:06 PM)
Good questions. I there multiple categories: Locks and Maybes... Locks: Trey Burke is gone. Tim Hardaway Jr. is gone. Gorgui Dieng is gone. And then you have a much of maybes and those decisions could be impacted by what happens tonight. Maybes: Mitch McGary (should leave but he might return), Glenn Robinson III (he'll think about it), Russ Smith (he'll think about it)
Micah (Kentucky)
Would you consider the Kentucky Basketball 2013 class to be the greatest class of all time? If not, would you if they landed Wiggins?
Myron Medcalf (3:09 PM)
It's definitely close right now. Right now, four of the top-10 kids are with Kentucky. If Wiggins joins the fold, there's no doubt that this is the greatest. But in terms of talent in relation to available prospects, it still warrants that tag without him ... entering 2013-14. We really won't know if it is truly the "greatest," however, until these guys play.
Jeff (Tampa, FL)
Do you think we'd be talking about Rick Pitino in the same manner as we do Dean Smith, Mike Krzyzewski, Bob Knight, and the Wizard, if he'd coached his entire career in college?
Myron Medcalf (3:10 PM)
Well, I think a lot of folks do. He's certainly sitting at their table. ... But I think things would have been different because I think he would've won a few more titles. But he's a legend now.
Tony (Richmond, CA)
Do you think Chris Webber will be in the house tonight for the national title game?
Myron Medcalf (3:12 PM)
No clue. ... But I think it's important to note that the Fab Five is like 80s rap to these kids. Before their time. They might know about the Fab Five, but they didn't live it. Also, the Fab Five had a cultural impact that 2012-13 Michigan did not have. Let's keep the two separate, whether Webber is in the building or not.
Chris (Wichita, KS)
Hey Myron, big fan still cant get over Saturday loss, did u ever think when Wichita State was winning by 12 w.13 left they were going to be Louisville, why? thks!
Myron Medcalf (3:13 PM)
I certainly had a "Is this really going to happen moment?" But I also knew what was coming. I've watched too much Louisville. The Cardinals will always throw a KO punch. Few teams can stand up against it. They haven't lost in two months. They're confident in any situation.
Chris (CA)
Disappointed that not ONE of the ESPN writers went with Michigan. Where's the love?? Most analysts have been going against Michigan each round. I would love for them to prove you guys wrong one more time.
Myron Medcalf (3:16 PM)
I don't give any team "love." I pick the team that I expect to win. It's that simple. You have to strip emotion from the equation in this gig. I honestly don't care who wins. I just want to see a good game. But when asked to pick, I go with the squad that I expect to get the victory. Here's why I picked Louisville. .... Weird things happen in title games. Never goes according to script. In that situation, I trust Louisville's ability to get buckets off its defense and limit Michigan's offense than I trust Michigan's offense to find a way to win again.
Jeremy (San Diego)
With Aaron Gordon going to Arizona, are they preseason #1 next season?
Myron Medcalf (3:17 PM)
Not to me. But the Wildcats are certainly top-3. Hard to vote against Kentucky as the preseason No. 1, even if those Wildcats don't get Wiggins.
Tyler (Laramie, Wyo)
Myron, your thoughts on Rick Pitinofinally getting into the HOF?
Myron Medcalf (3:18 PM)
Makes sense. Not surprised. It's been a good week for Pitino.
Myron Medcalf (3:18 PM)
Makes sense. Not surprised. It's been a good week for Pitino.
Brandon (Louisville)
The national championship is tonight and you go with a Kentucky recruiting question? Come on, man. How do you think Michigan will try to defend the Louisville guards tonight? Are they disciplined enough to pack the lane for 40 minutes the way WSU did?
Myron Medcalf (3:22 PM)
Well, I didn't miss your question, did I? Relax. .... I think they'll follow Wichita State's plan by encouraging Louisville's guards to fall in love with the jump shot again. The Cardinals win with inside-outside balance. Against the Shockers, however, they settled for a lot of bad shots. They were overconfident, IMO. And that wasn't the stuff that fueled this 15-game winning streak. Wolverines will need a lot of help to stop Louisville's guards. The extra defender has to be there on penetration. Russ/Peyton are too quick.
Hoosier Dan (Bloomington)
Hey Myron, I've been hiding in shame since the Sweet Sixteen, but I'm back now wondering if you think the Big Ten will win it's first championship since 2000 tonight? and why do you think Mitch Mcgary has emerged so suddenly as a power player?
Myron Medcalf (3:24 PM)
No. I'm picking Louisville. ... On McGary, he's confident, he's more patient and he's confident. Freshmen begin the season with worry. They're more concerned about what they shouldn't do than what they can do. Five months into the season, though, it's reversed. They're thinking about the things they can do to help their teams win and not playing the cautious basketball that keeps most of them on the bench. McGary feels good about his game, good about unveiling tools he's always had but never felt confident enough to reveal. Until now. ... It also helps that he's 6-10, passes like Vlade Divac and looks like an NFL tight end.
Ben (Charlotte)
i think you're a little premature on THJ leaving, doesn't sound like he's planning on it from his interviews ...
Myron Medcalf (3:26 PM)
He's gone. Why? His stock is not going to be higher next season. It's a much stronger draft with better wings. He'll leave because it just makes sense to leave after you're a junior NBA prospect in a national title game.
Paul (Kalamazoo, MI)
Does Trey Burke live up to the player of the year billing tonight?
Myron Medcalf (3:27 PM)
He'd better. And I don't think that means scoring 30 points. But he has to be a playmaker. He has to be a maestro against that Louisville pressure. He has to be felt. We didn't feel his presence against Syracuse. Can't happen tonight.
Peter (OR)
Do you think bench scoring could end up being a deciding factor in this game? Both teams have reserves that can step up but Louisville seems to have the advantage.
Myron Medcalf (3:29 PM)
I think the bench will be a factor, yes. I think both teams will need a spark off the bench. But this is a starters' game. One of the five on either side will play the biggest role tonight.
Phil (MI)
What can Pitino take from Michigan State's 25 point thrashing of Michigan earlier this year?
Myron Medcalf (3:30 PM)
Nothing. This is a different team. Mitch McGary wasn't a lottery pick then.
Myron Medcalf (3:31 PM)
Folks, it's been real. I definitely want to thank you for your time. I can't wait to see tonight's game. If I missed you, please email me at mmedcalf3030@gmail.com or find me on Twitter: @MedcalfByESPN ... Thanks again.
