Welcome. Let's get started.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Who will be the First USC Trojan to be selected in the 2013 NFL Draft?
Garry Paskwietz (5:03 PM)
That is a good question. It will either be Matt Barkley or Robert Woods with most of the speculation along the way being that Barkley would get the nod. Right now, i think it ends up being Woods.
Shane M. Mount (L'Aquila Italy)
Which injuries are you concerned about?
Garry Paskwietz (5:05 PM)
The loss of George Farmer for the year is at the top of the list. George had pretty well established himself as the No. 3 receiver and he was really looking good. After that, there really aren't too many issues that look to loom into fall camp. Silas Redd, Chad Wheeler, Su'a Cravens, Randall Telfer and Xavier Grimble were among those who had knee issues but all are expected back well before that time.
Jim Mora (LA)
No question. Just a statement. Thank you for keeping us apprised of all the latest on USC. Much appreciated! Please keep it up!
Garry Paskwietz (5:07 PM)
See you on November 30th at the Coliseum.
Shaun Cozort (Cypress, Ca)
Since switching to a 5-2 defense do you see it as a must to sign a big time NT in this next recruiting class? I know we have Kenny Bigalow playing there but what is the likelihood he will stay at that position for all 4 years? If so is there any word regarding USC going after Springdale, Arkansas NT Josh Frazier? Thanks and Fight On!
Garry Paskwietz (5:09 PM)
Right now USC has a verbal commit from a NT in Smallwood. There is an offer out to Frazier so it shows there was definite interest along the way. I agree with you that it will be interesting to see if Bigelow stays at nose, don't be surprised if Cody Temple gets some time there as well.
Dwight Williams (USC)
What's the hold up with the scholarship?
Garry Paskwietz (5:11 PM)
Not sure, Dwight. You've got an impressive body of work and a pair of MVP position titles from the Nike Camp, along with a solid offer sheet.
Randy Jackson (USC)
Which game are you most looking forward to in 2013 and why?
Garry Paskwietz (5:14 PM)
I will say the UCLA game as the top choice. It would be something if that game came down to the berth in the Pac-12 title game with the Trojans looking for a little revenge. I also think a 3-game stretch to watch is ASU, AZ and Notre Dame. The Trojans could easily be 4-0 heading into those game but all three should be tough games.
whats the status on todd mcnair vs ncaa?
Garry Paskwietz (5:16 PM)
It is still in process. There has been no ruling about the releasing of the NCAA e-mails, which a judge said was possible last fall. The NCAA has appealed and so far there has been no update. The hope for USC is that the e-mails will reveal conduct from the NCAA in regards to Lloyd Lake as Pat Haden has said they will at the e-mails and he wouldn't rule out any action if there is damaging info. Regardless of what happens for USC, most speculation is that the NCAA will eventually settle with McNair for a lot of money, and his silence.
Thoughts on the official name for the 2014 playoffs?
Garry Paskwietz (5:18 PM)
I think it's fine. If a nickname develops along the way, such as the Final Four for basketball, that is fine but for now I'm not too worried about it. Maybe they will have nickname in place by the time the format increases to 8 or 16 teams.
when is Oregon going to meet w/ the COI and what do you think their punishment will be?
Garry Paskwietz (5:20 PM)
It sounds like they are in the final stages of the process with a lot of communicating having already gone on. Unless something changes, my guess is the penalties will seem very minor compared to USC, with little more than minor scholarship losses and probation. The NCAA has already said they didn't find a lack of institutional control, which would have meant harsher penalties.
fightonsc (Orange County)
Is Abe Markowitz still a possibility for a scholarship this year?
Garry Paskwietz (5:26 PM)
There is conflicting info about that one. First off, Abe is still trying to get cleared for a sixth year, a process that has been slow to gain a clear answer. BYU and Hawaii have been mentioned as schools that have shown a lot of interest in bringing him in but there has also been scuttlebutt that USC could still make it happen.
Garry Paskwietz (5:29 PM)
That's all the time we have for today. We'll have a longer chat next week.
