Ohm (1:00 PM)
Hey guys, wud up?
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
What did you think of the Giants selecting Ryan Nassib QB Syracuse in the 4th Round?
Ohm (1:01 PM)
I know they passed up on some other players and areas of need and it is a bit higher than I probably would have felt comfortable investing in a QB to be behind Eli but I do like the move overall. I think they finally addressed an area that they have been able to ignore and been fortunate. But you need a plan in case Eli gets hurt and now they got one to develop. If they really felt he was that good and they did something they rarely do by trading up then it looks like a good move.
jim va.beach [via mobile]
Hey ohm. Saw recently a couple of football bloggers mention that nassib could be future trade bate. Do you think that's possible? Good work with draft to ohm.
Ohm (1:02 PM)
Thanks Jim. How's the beach? I don't think that is the main reason for drafting him but yes, that is an option. If Eli keeps going strong for three or four more years, then yeah, Nassib could be a trade option. But really I think they can see how he develops and if something happens to Eli and Nassib progresses the way they hope, they could also have a a natural successor to Eli as well. Just saying...
I honestly think moore will be a giant steal in the draft after falling to the third round, what's your take
Ohm (1:04 PM)
Hey Matt, yeah, he could be. He comes with some red flags. Tom Coughlin said he needs to work harder in practice and that his work ethic can be questioned. And he is really young, like 20 years old. But I think he has enough vets around him to develop him.
d-Murph (Big Blue HQs)
Ohmie! My man, pretty obvious that the 9ers and Cowboys were happy to make that day 1 trade which enabled the 9ers to grab Reid? Or do you think the G's were taking Pugh even if Reid was there? Curious to know what your take is......
Ohm (1:05 PM)
Hey Murph... I do believe they would have taken Reid and then gone O-line in second round but I don't know that for sure. That's my guess. I had heard before the draft that they liked Reid a lot after Fluker and Vaccaro.
Did the Giants fill their positions of most need at the draft?
Ohm (1:05 PM)
They got a lot of depth and filled some major need areas but cornerback and linebacker still can use another body or two. I think cornerback higher than linebacker based on how they value the positions.
Frank (New Orleans)
At this point in his career can Corey Webster rebound from a difficult end to the 2012 campaign?
Ohm (1:06 PM)
That's the plan. If he doesn't play even slightly better, then the Giants could struggle. But he's not the only Giant who needs a bounce-back season.
What are going to be the most competitive positions during training camp?
Ohm (1:07 PM)
Offensive line, defensive line, linebacker and running back.
Any word on Victor Cruz ??
Ohm (1:07 PM)
Nope. And when there is we will let you know as soon as we know.
Peter (Atlanta, GA)
Is David Wilson truly ready to take the feature back role?
Ohm (1:08 PM)
Don't know. And I don't know if the Giants will give him that many carries to see. I really think Wilson and Brown will share carries.
Hey Ohm! Does the Giants staff have some sort of ultra-secret strategy for their LB corps this year? With only one addition of Conner, it seems like they know something everyone else does not. I like the potential starters of Williams, Rivers, and Conner, its just the lack of depth that is glaring. its one or two injuries away from being severely limited in talent and experience.
Ohm (1:10 PM)
What they seem to know that fans clearly keep ignoring is the fact that they do not value linebacker as much as you guys do. I just don't know how many times I can say this. They just plug guys in like they do with tight end. They place all their value on defensive line at DE and DT. That is where they feel they stop the run first and foremost. And then on passing downs, three safeties.
Morous (New Jersey)
Hey Ohm, now that the draft is over, do the Giants have a plan to fill the huge voids at their biggest need positions of Cornerback and Linebacker?
Ohm (1:10 PM)
I'm sure they will keep looking to see who is out there in FA for cheap. And then if no undrafted free agents pan out, then they could see if anybody gets cut at the end of training camp and perhaps the Giants can pick up a vet. If they sign anybody before camp, it is going to be on the cheap.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
What did you think of the Giants Selections of the 2013 NFL Draft?
Ohm (1:12 PM)
I think it is a solid draft. Don't look for guys who will have an immediate impact. Look more for impact for next season and beyond. And they could have potentially drafted two starters for 2014 in the first two rounds. Who knows, Pugh could start this year perhaps if he can beat out Diehl and Brewer at RT
Hey Ohm. Seeing the Giants ignored the LB position in the draft, do you see them scooping up a veteran LB currently in the FA pool? Such names like Dansby and Daryl Smith come to mind if its the right price.
Ohm (1:13 PM)
Only if they are willing to come in on cheap. But I really think the Giants will see what they got with their young players first. They only have so many roster spots right now.
I think will hill could be huge this year. He is a guy with so much talent. What's your thoughts?
Ohm (1:14 PM)
He showed flashes for sure. But he's going to have competition now from the fifth-round pick Taylor Cooper and free agent pickup Ryan Mundy.
Wad up Ohm...what do u think abotu the GMen signing Karlos Dansby to a one yr deal??
Ohm (1:15 PM)
Ray, if the Giants don't think he's worth the time or money, then trust them. If he is willing to come in for the cheap, then sure, if they feel the roster spot is worth it. I think they are going to with Jacquian, Connor and Keith Rivers. And then on passing downs, Jacquian, Rivers and a safety.
Ohm (1:16 PM)
Dansby may not even want to come to the Giants as well.
I have made the transfer from a Jets fan to a Giants fan recently cause im tired of all the Jet schenanigans. I love Pugh. I liked taking Pugh during the draft. But was this the right pick with all the athleticism and talent still on the board mid-first round?
Ohm (1:17 PM)
From a need perspective it was a good move. They need a young body on the line and one who can play multiple positions. Remember when their linemen go down, they often have a guy who can play guard or center or tackle and guard... they like their versatile pieces. Sharrif was interesting but I guess the Giants didn't like him nearly as much. Apparently many other teams felt the same way too.
Who win saturday ?? Mayweather Or Guerrero !! I was want your opinion , i know this is off subject
Ohm (1:18 PM)
Jeff... I don't know much about Guerrero. Hard to go against Money right now. But all I want to see is Manny vs Money. Even if it is well past their prime now and like 2-3 years too late.
Ohm, you gave your opinion on where some of the good positional battles in camp would be, but you left out cornerback. Don't you think it's going to be a tough battle for the third string position between Hosley, Ross and Thomas? Not to mention if Webster is still struggling.
Ohm (1:20 PM)
The reason I left CB out is because I think it is going to be Webster, Prince and then Ross. Hosley will see snaps as an extra CB as well. And perhaps he could be the third CB, definitely a possibility. But I don't think that is as competitive as who will be fourth DE, who will be third DT, who will start at LB and MLB (if Herzlich can push Connor) and the most important one --- who will start at RT -- Diehl, Brewer or Pugh. And throw in who will start at RB between Wilson and Brown and who will be the third RB.
Ohm. Any word on how Rogers is doing after his blod clot last year? The team seemed really high on him prior to that incident during preseason last year.
Ohm (1:21 PM)
No word... haven't seen him. Got to wait when veterans mini camp comes in June.
Chris (Villanova, PA)
This is sort of a broader question but I'm curious about its specific application to the Giants as well. Are there understood positions of value in the NFL today, or do those "positions of value" vary by team? If they are team specific, which positions do the Giants value most? (excluding QB from this discussion, which is obviously the position of highest value especially today)
Ohm (1:23 PM)
I think it varies by team. I think the Giants value defensive end more than some and they definitely value linebacker a lot less than other teams. Just depends on what your philosophy is and how you feel about building a team. Some teams like the build through free agency. The Giants like to build through the draft. It all depends on their philosophy. Some teams value tight end a lot like the Patriots. The Giants... not as much.
Hey Ohm! Thought the draft was actually very good for what we like to do! Think most picks can contribute immediately including Pugh, Hankins, Cooper Taylor as a hybrid safety/ Deon Grant look and Herman as a bruiser run-type guard. I thought we found great value at all positions. But that's just my take. Which picks do you see having the POTENTIAL to contribute immediately (Other than on special teams) ?
Ohm (1:25 PM)
I'd temper the expectations a bit for this season. Giants don't like to play rookies a whole lot for the most part. Pugh could challenge for a starting spot but if he doesn't start, he's not going to play a ton. Whomever loses between Diehl and Brewer at RT could end up being the extra blocker. As for Hankins, he could see snaps in big packages and goal line. Taylor... he'd have to have an impressive camp to come in and beat out Will Hill and Ryan Mundy. It's possible but I never really expect rookies to come in and contribute right away.
Tim (New Haven, CT)
My man Ohm! Do you think the Giants could look to trade for a LB before training camp? I'm thinking a 2014 2nd rounder for someone like Brian Cushing or Ray Maualuga. Why not take a low-risk high reward chance, similar to what the Eagles did with Demeco Ryans?
Ohm (1:26 PM)
Tim, just don't see it. Don't see them trading a second-round pick for a linebacker when they went through the entire draft without picking one up. They just don't value linebacker like that.
Tim (New Haven, CT)
Ohm do you work in Bristol or work remotely like Dan Graziano?
Ohm (1:27 PM)
I'm always with the Giants in East Rutherford or at home.
Chris (Villanova, PA)
How much do you love questions about linebackers?
Ohm (1:29 PM)
I get a little tired of them but I really truly understand the frustration on the part of the fans. I do. But I also get frustrated with the fact that Giants fans seem to conveniently ignore how this franchise operates. Giants fans know the deal man. You all know they don't value the position like that. So why keep complaining? They won two Super Bowls operating this way. They value defensive line. Ya know?
Jason (Avalon, NJ)
Ohm any update on if the Giants will wear their red uniforms this year?
Ohm (1:30 PM)
They are altering their uniforms this season but it is white pants in place of its traditional gray to go with blue jerseys for select home or away games. The games in which they will wear the pants have not been selected yet.
Windels (Stamford, CT)
Ohm who is your favorite player to interview and do you personally know any of the players on a first-name basis?
Ohm (1:31 PM)
I do know some of the players on a first-name basis. The Giants are a great team to deal with. The players are friendly. I like talking to Tuck, Cruz, Antrel, Wilson, Kiwanuka... lot's of guys.
Murph (City Island, NY)
Any chance the Giants look to re-sign Brandon Jacobs? He was a great mentor to Bradshaw and a good change of pace back.
Ohm (1:32 PM)
Always possible but if it were to happen -- if -- it may happen around camp or during camp. I think they want to see what they got with what they have for now and they drafted a RB in seventh round.
Dan Kagdis (Fairfield, CT)
Do you think the Giants will carry 3 QBs at the start of the season?
Ohm (1:34 PM)
Quite possible. But Coughlin really doesn't like doing that if he can avoid it. But I think they almost have to because Nassib won't be ready this season. Let him learn from Eli and Carr.
Steve Parker (Rudolph, NJ)
Any update on if Ramses Barden will be coming back?
Ohm (1:35 PM)
Nope. Not looking like he will be back as of now. They probably can use one more wide receiver body but they may look at what is available as far as undrafted free agents first in rookie camp. I think USA Today reported Jets were looking at Ramses. Now if nothing happens with Ramses and the Giants don't like what they saw in their undrafted free agents, then perhaps he returns. But sounds like Ramses will search for a new fresh start elsewhere.
Ohm (1:36 PM)
Alright guys, thanks for all the questions this week! Appreciate them and appreciate ya'll!
