Stephania Bell (11:47 AM)
Good morning everyone. Wow - lots of injuries last night. Thursday night games seem to take a big toll.
Do you think McFadden will play this week? Trying to decide what to do with R. Jennings.
Stephania Bell (11:48 AM)
Kyle: I do not think McFadden will play and I expect Jennings will start. Dennis Allen trying not to show his hand yet but with DMC not practicing and having a hamstring injury, hard to see him pushing through it with risk of worsening.
Is L. Bell good for the long haul? or is that injury going to resurface?
Stephania Bell (11:50 AM)
Mookie: I think based on how he looked in his first outing, the fact he came out no worse for the wear and now has a bye week to rest all bode well for him going forward. Nothing guaranteed but I like his chances.
hey steph love all your hard work.what is the updates on mcfadden and ridley will either play sunday?
Stephania Bell (11:51 AM)
Jared: why, thank you. We hit on DMC. I think Ridley is in danger of missing but wouldn't rule him out yet. The concern is getting any swelling/stiffness out of that bruised thigh above the knee. This is one of the few scenarios where not practicing doesn't necessarily mean it will keep him out. But he could be a gtd, something no fantasy owner wants to see.
Good morning Stephania. What do you make out of the Daryl Richardson situation in St. louis? How bad is he hurt and do you think it's a motivational ploy by the Fisher to get D. Rich going? I'm thinking of flexing him over D Wilson, what do you think? Happy Friday!
Stephania Bell (11:53 AM)
Joe: I think it's a situation I want to stay from. Richardson is off the injury report so I don't think his foot is to blame. But it's very unclear who will play what role in the run game and it sounds like Stacy might now get his chance to prove himself. Messy. Wilson - hasn't been great - but now no longer Da'Rel Scott. Think he has a better week.
Do you think Brandon Marshalls foot could actually keep him out of the game on Sunday?
Stephania Bell (11:55 AM)
Chris: Earlier in the week Marc Trestman said he expected him to be available Sunday but I think we'd all feel better about his chances if we saw him out there today. So keep an eye out for practice reports in Chicago.
Happy Friday Stephania!! is it safe now to roll with Legarette Blount with current Ridley's injury?btw, blog name suggestion, howabout: Clean "Bell" of Health blog by stephania bell?
Stephania Bell (11:57 AM)
Andy: Thanks for the blog name suggestion. Still in the process of gathering them if anyone else wants to submit ideas.I wouldn't plan on Blount just yet. Again, Ridley could come down to gameday. And Bolden should play as well, despite the knee issue.
Hey, is Amendola goin to be at full health for Sunday, or should I start someone like Boldin or Edleman in his place
Stephania Bell (11:59 AM)
Zach: We're not even sure Amendola will play, much less be at full health. I would plan on someone else even if Amendola is a surprise active (don't think he will be, even if he is prob very limited action).
Reggie Bush has looked really good in the games he has played but are you concerned about his injury history & already missing games this week? I own Bell too but do you think they start to split more to keep Bush healthy?
Stephania Bell (12:01 PM)
Jim: Totally legit concern. I don't think they split proactively though. I think they ride Reggie Bush's success. He's playing as well as he has in recent years but I'd be concerned about his ability to keep it up for 16 years.
Stephania Bell (12:01 PM)
Just announced on Sports Center. Brian Hoyer's MRI shows torn ACL. Apparently will undergo a second MRI to confirm but...
Jim (West Palm)
I drafted Steve Johnson and thought I had a sleeper and even bragged about it. Now he is staying banged up and Robert Woods is the man it seems. Woods is available in my league. Do I drop Johnson for Woods?
Stephania Bell (12:03 PM)
Jim: I would grab Woods. Tough to say you should change Johnson out but at least in the immediate sense, I suppose that's what you do. Johnson looked to be in great pain last night and Woods becomes the preferred target at least until Johnson healthy.
Is it possible Steven Jackson ACTUALLY plays this week? If not, after his bye next week, how confident would you be in starting him?
Stephania Bell (12:05 PM)
Jordan: I think the Falcons are trying to be tricky. SJax has not practiced and we had heard last week he would likely be out through the bye but now the Falcons saying he's not ruled out (and of course it's a Monday night game). I hope he waits past the bye week and then I like him when he comes back. But just as coming into the season he was an injury risk, that goes up for the remainder of the season after this incident.
Bryce (Charleston, SC)
Blog name idea: Questionable analysis. Speaking of injuries last night, how do you feel Spiller looked and do you think him playing was good or bad in terms of his availability/effectiveness for next Sunday?
Stephania Bell (12:07 PM)
Bryce: Hmmm. Questionable? I thought Spiller looked like a back who was hurt. He only had two carries for 3 yards in the first half and jogging pregame he was limping. But he looked REALLY good busting that 54 yard touchdown, made a move to get through the hole then ran straight ahead with nice speed. THe ankle didn't affect the speed but his overall mobility. He only had 7 more yards after the TD and was probably very sore last night. The good news is he now has ten days to rest and recover. Hopefully will be in much better shape with the ankle by Week 6.
Hi Stephania - Thanks for the chat. Any update on Gronk?
Stephania Bell (12:09 PM)
Eric: And thank you for coming. Gronk remains on the verge of returning but I think it happens in Week 6, at home, not this week. Not official by any means but that's what I'm thinking. When he does return don't count on a full game off the bat but he will undoubtedly add a huge spark to the team.
Hi Stephania. Shout out from Denmark and a big 'thank you' for your weekly input! How do you see things evolve in Cleveland with Weeden behind center again? Will it impact Gordon and Cameron?
Stephania Bell (12:11 PM)
Peter: Thanks for joining from afar. And you're welcome! Obviously Hoyer brought something different to the offense but I still think GOrdon and Cameron are going to be high value with Weeden. He needs to get rid of the ball quicker (obviously) but keep in mind that he hasn't been able to practice with them the last two weeks because of the thumb. Assume it improves as the season progresses.
How are Bennett and Finley holding up and which one are you starting this week?
Stephania Bell (12:14 PM)
Lisa: Bennett has been on the report for a while because of the shoulder but has played anyway so I expect him to do so again. Finley back in practice after recovering from the concussion during the off week. Assume he plays if no setbacks. Probably playing Finley.
BD (Marina Del Rey)
Any chance "OWW My Finger" is in the running for names? Also partial to "Walk It Off". Any news on how many weeks this Miles Austin hammy thing will keep him out. Seems like 2013 is the year of the hammy.
Stephania Bell (12:16 PM)
Hi BD: Love Marina del Rey. And, no, "Ow my finger" not in the running. No news on time for Austin. They haven't ruled him out for Sunday's game although it's looking unlikely he'd be ready. He's doing some running but no practicing. And every year is the year of the hammy. If there were a way to prevent those injuries entirely, the MLB and NFL would be thrilled.
What about Calvin Johnson for Sunday's game??
Stephania Bell (12:17 PM)
Brandon: He's back in practice today...which we like to see. Assume that means he's playing.
Direct descendant (and my middle name) so have to use it right? Any updates on Vernon Davis? Good chance he re-injures his hammy at some point?
Stephania Bell (12:19 PM)
Casanova: That name is a sure conversation starter. Davis can only have benefited from 10 days off. There's ALWAYS a risk of re-injury with hamstrings so Davis is no different but there's reason to be encouraged since he came out of the game without any setback.
Your blog name really should be "The Belliever". Can we get an update on all 3 Packers RB's? Thanks!
Stephania Bell (12:22 PM)
Nate: Not to be confused with the "Billievers." Solid Bills fans supporting their team last night (despite the loss). And in Green Bay: Lacy appears to be doing well after the bye week. Expected to return from the concussion. Starks already ruled out for this week with the knee injury. And Franklin practicing limited with a (vague) knee injury. Not clear what his status will be for the game yet.
Bradshaw's neck, you think it's safe to drop him or do you think he'll play again this year?
Stephania Bell (12:24 PM)
J.J. I honestly don't know. Hope to have more info before Sunday. But Bradshaw had a disc issue last year, imagine this is a recurrence of that. He is still evaluating his options which apparently include surgery. If he has surgery, he's done. He may choose to rest/rehab, see if he can return and do something in the offseason. But I'd probably be looking to replace b/c his status is tenuous at best.
has Giovani Bernard proven he is worthy enough for me to start this week and has Chris johnson proved that hes lost enough for me to sit him this week??
Stephania Bell (12:27 PM)
Dominic: Yes, Bernard has proven himself to be startworthy I believe. And I have C Johnson in a league (and am frustrated). But I would ask who would then be the second running back? Always depends on options.
heard anything, or have any expectations on VJax's injury for next week?
Stephania Bell (12:27 PM)
Ben: Sorry. Teams are very quiet when on bye and no reports are required. In his case, rest is best treatment and I'm assuming he's getting a lot of that this week.
Matt (Mountain View, CA)
Might be too dark but blog name suggestion: "For whom the Bell tolls". Who comes back stronger Vereen or Andre Brown? Thinking about picking up one to stash.
Stephania Bell (12:31 PM)
Matt: That is actually a fairly popular suggestion. You are asking a really good question. I like them both. Vereen had to have surgery to stabilize a wrist bone that had moved out of position. I expect him to come back strong. He can condition and keep himself physically ready to go while the wrist heals. In Brown's case I think he could have come back sooner than the IR/designated for return allows him to so I expect him to be in good shape - and eager to prove himself - once he can return. Don't think you can go wrong with either guy.
Any new information on Marlon Brown or Roddy White?
Stephania Bell (12:34 PM)
Garrett: Brown is at least back in practice today although I'm not convinced he's 100% healthy by Sunday. White as I noted earlier continues to improve (definitely looked better this past week) but prob won't be dramatically different until after bye.
Any updates on Cecil Shorts? Will he play on Sunday?
Stephania Bell (12:35 PM)
Jay: Still not practicing but everyone close to team seems to think he will still play, that they're holding him out as precautionary measure primarily. He's been dealing with a groin injury off and on since the preseason.
Foster's back no longer a concern? Back's and neck's are scary
Stephania Bell (12:36 PM)
Nate: We certainly can't say nothing will ever come of it again but I think his performance thus far has shown us it's not limiting him.
Is Kerley going to be the Jets #1 WR this week?
Stephania Bell (12:37 PM)
Michael: Very well could be. Holmes already ruled out b/c of the hamstring and Hill dealing with a concussion.
What's the latest regarding Marcel Reece? I want to start Jennings in a PPR league, but worried Reece would cut into his catches.
Stephania Bell (12:40 PM)
Rick: It does look like Reece will play. He's been out there at practice this week making it look like he'll be available. I still think Jennings is the tailback and gets the primary work. Hasn't overwhelmed us before but if you're in a pinch, he would be the starter.
KiKi Dee (FL)
Bradford or Luck this weeK
Stephania Bell (12:40 PM)
Kiki: Luck. Even against the Seahawks.
Do you provide any information that can't be found first elsewhere?
Stephania Bell (12:42 PM)
Jake: Nope. So why show up Jake?
Thoughts on playing MJD over Giovani or Reggie Wayne (from.....?) at flex this week? Thanks
Stephania Bell (12:44 PM)
DL: Not sure I do it. Wayne has been unbleievable so far (and yes, I know it's the Seahawks, but still). Think Giovani can run against the Patriots (remember they are now without Wilfork). MJD in a bit of a "prove it" spot.
Ryan (San Fran)
Will Blisters hinder Jamaal Charles ability to cut and run comfortably? Any chance they limit his carries, or will the substances they put on his foot be sufficient to stop the pain?
Stephania Bell (12:46 PM)
Ryan: Legitimate worry. That's why the time off during the week. But this is one of the things the medical staffs are so good at. He will have a lot of protection to decrease friction and the hope is he will be able to push through it.
Stephania Bell (12:46 PM)
Have to run folks to jump on the radio. Thanks for coming! Blog tomorrow - good luck Sunday!
