Stephania Bell (3:05 PM)
Happy Tuesday friends. We get to add another season to the mix with the NBA launching tonight. The injuries are never really done, are they?
How much time if any is expected with Satcy's low ankle sprain
Stephania Bell (3:06 PM)
Mike: They're hoping none. We probably won't know until we see late in the week practices. Imagine he'll get days off until Thursday, at least.
Who's got it better than us, Stephania?? Doug Martin got dropped; is he worth a top waiver claim on upside, or better to target a safer option like Andre Brown?
Stephania Bell (3:08 PM)
BJ: I know, right? Martin could be worth a stash but we really don't know when or if he'll be back (although the Buccs are encouraged). But I LOVE Andre Brown. THink he has had some extra healing time as a cushion with the IR/return designation and think he comes out of the gate strong.
Does DeMarco Murray play this week, and will he see his normal full workload?
Stephania Bell (3:10 PM)
DL: I think he does since he came so close last week. They opted not to take a chance since he had some stiffness. Unclear how the workload shakes out. Don't think they put him in hesitant to use him but they won't go overboard either.
RG3, anything to be worried about? Should I look into picking up someone like Prior or the Red Rocket for this week?
Stephania Bell (3:11 PM)
Malek: SOunds like precautionary removal from game. After last year, there's no way they were going to put him back in the game. Every expectation he plays this week.
Hello Stephania! James Jones good to go this week?
Stephania Bell (3:13 PM)
Nick: No clarity yet on that situation. He did not practice at all last week so until he does, we're left hanging. But McCarthy had said they thought this would be a 2-3 week injury. It's now been 3 (not that that's an absolute, mind you) so have to believe he's getting close.
Good Afternoon Stephania!!Any news on Harvin?
Stephania Bell (3:16 PM)
Phong: Sounds like he overdid it in workouts a bit and now has to step back. This is all normal in the course of returning from major surgery. You feel good, you test it, you figure out you did too much, you back down a bit. But it also tells us we're probably a couple weeks away from seeing him. I originally thought first week of December would be the target; if it got pushed to that date it wouldn't surprise me although Seahawks certainly not hinting at that. Bottom line is it will depend how he responds to each time they press his workouts and we just have to follow along.
Hey Stephania! Well done as always on the podcast today. Any news on the Texans backfield yet?
Stephania Bell (3:17 PM)
Jake: Thank you. Both Foster and Tate say they hope/plan to play but both need to go through the paces of some working out to determine if they can. In other words, it could be Friday before we know. Like their optimism but it's a signal from the team when they sign 3 RBs to their roster that they aren't confident yet.
Hi, Stephania. Need a TE off the wire this week with your Niners being on bye. Best two choices are Delanie Walker (who, you know well) and Tim Wright (playing @ Seattle. Ugh.)
Stephania Bell (3:18 PM)
Mike: I know that feeling. Half my team on bye this week and two more injured. Ugh is right. I go Walker, not just b/c of the 49er association but he's not playing in Seattle.
Concerened Richardson owner (Det MI)
I read a couple reports during the bye week that Trent may have been a little banged up the 3 weeks with the Colts, have you heard of any injuries with him?
Stephania Bell (3:19 PM)
Concerned: None listed on the report. Teams have to report if a player seeking treatment and/or missing practice reps. This could very well be one of those banged-up-as-part-of-playing-football type situations.
Martin (New York, NY)
Hi Stephania!! Any cause for concern with Jamaal Charles and his knee contusion?
Stephania Bell (3:21 PM)
Martin: He's day-to-day but he did finish out the game. Ultimately I don't think it's a major worry.
Toz (Foxboro MA)
What's the latest with Nick Foles? Is he ready to jump in this week?
Stephania Bell (3:22 PM)
Toz: Cleared to practice. It looks as if he will start as long as there is no recurrence of symptoms.
Randall Cobb (Green Bay, WI)
Randall Cobb?.Should he be on any roster knowing that he will only be available starting week 15? He won't be in shape and the Green Bay passing game is very good right now.
Stephania Bell (3:23 PM)
No reason to take up a spot now. He should be available later and if you need him for playoffs you could pick him up later.
I have been sitting on Sjax since he went down in week 2. Turned down trade offers for him in hopes of getting him back as a RB2. Was this week a sign of him not being 100% or a product of a struggling offense?
Stephania Bell (3:25 PM)
Josh: Yes. As in the offense is struggling and Jackson hinted earlier in the week at not being 100%. Remember, he only practiced in three limited workouts before returning to a game. The hope is he can improve while playing. Still some risk there.
Any chance Roddy White plays this week?
Stephania Bell (3:26 PM)
GM: Always a chance. Coach Mike Smith said he started running with the athletic trainers last week but other than that remained vague about his status. I wouldn't be surprised if he sits another week.
Troy Gilchirst (Roseville, Mich)
I am thinking of trading away harry Douglas and Fleener for Ray Rice... Is Ray Rice 100% Healthy now.? and is this a good trade for me..
Stephania Bell (3:29 PM)
Troy: Always goes back to what you need. As far as Rice, he says he's healthy but it would be nice to see consistent production (and the opportunity to test it) to really get a better idea. I'm not sure I give up Douglas and Fleener for a hope that Rice improves. the next few weeks they face tough defenses, after that it lightens up but I'd be nervous about making that trade right now.
goop-ta (Tampa, FL)
Hi Stephania.. whats the word on JT (Julius Thomas... not suit and tie JT)?
Stephania Bell (3:30 PM)
Good...b/c I don't have any Timberlake updates. Thomas tweeted out his relief at not having a high ankle sprain per the MRI so that's encouraging. With the Broncos on bye this week, sounds like he thinks he'll be ready when they return.
Sidney Rice a little banged up. Look like he misses any time? If he does increase pressure to get Harvin involved?
Stephania Bell (3:32 PM)
Jeff: Just reported on our ESPN Insiders show that Rice is dealing with "concussion-like symptoms." And here we all heard it was his knee taking him out of the game last night. Rice has an extensive concussion history. They need to be careful with him. And no, it will definitely not put pressure on Harvin to return sooner. His surgery was extensive and they will not risk the investment by rushing him.
How painful is the injury to Jimmy Graham? do you think he'll miss time this week? Eventually? thanks!
Stephania Bell (3:34 PM)
Alex: Funny you should ask. I posted a blog entry dedicated to Graham and his injury earlier today where I outline how painful these injuries are and what he faces. In short, it's a management issue and it may have the potential to bother him on and off throughout the season. Clearly he is a guy who will try to play and he was effective in his "limited" role. But it will be a week to week issue.
Any significant non-skill player injuries impacting fantasy this week? O-linemen that could matter? Clay Mathews on my GB defense?
Stephania Bell (3:37 PM)
Randy: As for Matthews, won't be this week but it could be next. He's expected to get the pins out of his surgically repaired thumb on 11/4 and could return on 11/10. As for o-line, the Steelers had 3 guys leave the game this weekend and they were already shaky. If I'm Ben, I'm nervous.
What do you know about Mendenhall's toe injury? Is he likely to be back after their bye week, and what would that mean for the very impressive Ellington?
Stephania Bell (3:39 PM)
Frank: All we really know is that this is a problem that seemed to get better, then got worse again - enough to keep him out. That is how toe injuries can be, esp for running backs. I'm guessing with the way Ellington looks it's not like they're panicking to get Mendenhall back. Day-to-day. Not a fantasy favorite but the nature of the problem.
Jonathan Stewart coming back this week? Worth a pickup?
Stephania Bell (3:41 PM)
Paul: It sounds like it. Interestingly, I heard someone remark how great he looked in practice. He should, given that his legs should be fresh, minus of course the ankle issues he's been dealing with since the offseason. Maybe for a deep league? But really hard to know what to expect, including how they even plan to use him.
Thoughts on Cutler? Obviously Marshall vocal about him being back in just 2 weeks, but now sounds like Cutler and Trestman mention it as possible.
Stephania Bell (3:44 PM)
Jeff: Well, the fact he doesn't really run around much helps his cause. He still has to be able to protect himself though and they don't want something that will set him up for a bigger injury. Sooooo...maybe? Really don't know until we see more.
How serious is C.J. Spiller's high ankle sprain? Is it worth holding out hope that he will start to produce in the 2nd half of the season?
Stephania Bell (3:46 PM)
Ryan: Two thoughts: 1) He has to get healthy enough to be who we thought he was. 2) The team needs to use him in ways that feature his talent, presuming he gets that explosiveness back. If he sits out now until he can really move well on that ankle (whether that's another week or two - and they have a bye in Week 12), then yes, I believe he can be. Not second half as much as final third.
Stephania, David Wilson sitting on my bench, do I drop him for Andre Brown or Vereen? Or stay put? Don't need any to play immediately just as depth, ive waited soo soo long...
Stephania Bell (3:47 PM)
Ryan: I'd drop for Brown or Vereen. Just think there's uncertainty with the neck issue. No idea really when he'll come back and how he'll be when he does. Like the potential contributions of the other two more.
Aaron (Columbus (Go Bucks!))
What's up with BRADY's hand??? Trying to trade him and 1 of - Keenan, Torrey, or Terrance Williams for Romo
Stephania Bell (3:49 PM)
Aaron: According to him, nothing! It's perfect. Hard to blame things on his hand when there are many possibilities as to why he's not playing like himself. Maybe it's bothering him somewhat but it's not an overarching concern right now.
What's up with Doug Martin??? Will we see the Muscle Hampster anytime soon?
Stephania Bell (3:51 PM)
Linda: Schiano said yesterday that "hopefully" Martin will be able to play soon. Makes it sound to me like he is making enough strides in rehab that they at least believe he has a chance to return. Still a ways to go; imagine it's at least a couple weeks before a potential return OR before they decide he's reached a plateau and he doesn't return. As of now, looks positive but too soon for a timetable.
Nicky V (CT BABAY)
Whats the Giants Backfield looking like? Worth stashing Hillis or is he done after the bye?
Stephania Bell (3:52 PM)
Nicky: Can't imagine if Brown and Jacobs are back there's much room for Hillis.
Colston hurt or just not a real part of offense anymore? Ok to drop him?
Stephania Bell (3:55 PM)
Jason: I asked Mike Triplett, who covers the Saints for us, this very question b/c he's been largely invisible. After watching him week to week he thinks it's largely how he's being used (or not used) in the offense. Colston did enter the season with some lingering foot issues (plantar fasciitis, like Graham) but has seemed to do well with the foot not really bothering him. Just not a great situation. But drop? Not sure I'm there yet.
So AP has had 10, 13, 13 carries in his last 3 games. Do you think this is related to his hamstring injury or just the bad Vikings offense in general?
Stephania Bell (3:58 PM)
Dave: The offense more than anything. Peterson had not even mentioned the hamstring to the medical staff until the week before (Wk 7) game. So before then, definitely not. He did not think he had expressed serious concern so he doubted this factored into coaches decisions on how to use him. It was more that he just felt he couldn't go full speed. It has to change, right?
Is Vick droppable at this point? I can't believe I have Brady and Vick as my QBs and am in desperate need for better QB play
Stephania Bell (4:01 PM)
John: Think you're summing up the season for many of us. And yes, have to do what you need to do. His timeline is up in the air and you need to be able to get points now. Even Mike Glennon netted 15 fantasy points last week (vs Vick, -1).
Stephania Bell (4:01 PM)
Have a great rest of the week everyone! See you again Friday...
