Nick Friedell (2:15 PM)
Sorry I'm a little late everybody -- had to wrap up some stuff from shootaround. Let's get this chat rolling ...

Is there a way to get Melo and still sign mirotic?
Nick Friedell (2:16 PM)
No. Not this summer. Because Mirotic is going to be looking for more than the mid-level exception.
Fred (jacksonville, Florida)
How bad is the Noah injury? Could he miss some time?
Nick Friedell (2:17 PM)
He says no. He says he'll be fine. Thibs says the ligament is fine. We'll see how it affects him, if at all in the next week or so.
Hey Nick! I keep reading where Bulls may go after Carmelo if he opts out; personally, I would like to see him here but will he take less money to play in Chicago?
Nick Friedell (2:18 PM)
I really don't think so. Does anyone really believe he's going to take less $$ to come here?
Hi Nick, is it possible to get a Carmelo deal done without getting rid of Taj?
Nick Friedell (2:19 PM)
Only if he takes a lot less money. I don't see him doing that.
Hey Nick, Any chance Rose and/or Noah restructure their deals to help make room for Melo?
Nick Friedell (2:23 PM)
The NBA is not the NFL. The deals don't work the same way. They can't be restructured.
Where is D-Rose in the rehab process?
Nick Friedell (2:25 PM)
He's been taking a lot of one-handed jumpers lately. Still doesn't seem to be jumping much.

How much do you think the bulls will have to pay Jimmy Butler when his rookie deal is up?
Nick Friedell (2:27 PM)
Good question. All depends on how well he plays over the next year. The Bulls respect him and I think he loves it here, but he's obviously got to perform in order to get the big extension.
Justin (Whiting, IN)
Nick, from what you can gather, where do you see Jimmer Fredette at in the next few weeks with the Chicago Bulls? I feel they need to see what he can offer prior to their playoff run. He can take a few minutes away from Butler and Dunleavy. Thoughts?
Nick Friedell (2:30 PM)
As I've said all along, I think Jimmer came in too late in the year to make much of a difference. Maybe he can give them some minutes in the playoffs and knock down a few shots, but unless there's an injury I don't see him getting too much time right now.
Dan (Orlando) [via mobile]
Hey Nick, going after Carmelo next summer would pretty much lock in almost 40 mil to him and DRose for the upcoming season. This would almost garauntee the Bulls having zero bench prodiction for the coming season. I know everyone is mesmerized by the thought of a second superstar, but the logic here makes no sense to me. Can you help me figure this out?
Nick Friedell (2:32 PM)
The logic is this: Stars win in this league. The Bulls figure if they land Carmelo and pair him with Derrick and Noah along with Thibs, they can fill up the rest of their roster will some other pieces and have a chance to win a title. Thibs only uses two or three subs anyway.
Nick Friedell (2:35 PM)
The Melo questions have become like the Rose questions from last year -- and the Boozer amnesty questions. Does anyone have a non-Melo related question?
What do you think are the chances Rose plays for team USA this summer?
Nick Friedell (2:36 PM)
He wants to play. I don't know if he'll be ready to compete at that level though. But he definitely wants to be there.
What is the likelihood that the Bulls package their two first round picks this year to move up in the draft?
Nick Friedell (2:38 PM)
I think there's a greater likelihood that they trade the picks away to create more cap space.
Do you have any concern about Noah's thumb? The last thing we need is a two month surgery like what happened in 2010/11 season
Nick Friedell (2:39 PM)
Yeah, it's going to be interesting to see how it responds over the next few games. He says it was fine, but he said the same thing four years ago.
How much is this team driven by the Reinsdorf 'mediocre' comment earlier this season? Seems like that 's when Noah went into beast mode...
Nick Friedell (2:41 PM)
I'm sure it motivated them a lot. I know they thrived off of all the people that thought they should be tanking games.
Jordan (Daytona Beach) [via mobile]
Is this now Joakim Noah's team? He has the respect of his team and the league. He motivates well and leads by example.
Nick Friedell (2:45 PM)
It's still Rose's team. When he starts playing again he's got to be the guy that leads the way. But Noah is absolutely the soul of the team. He's the one that everybody feeds off of -- even more so given the things that have happened this year.
Hey Nick. Why is no one mentioning Kevin Love as an option for the Bulls? You put him with Noah, Butler and Rose with Taj off the bench. I really like that team make up.
Nick Friedell (2:49 PM)
Because with Flip Saunders in charge the general feeling is that either Love will stay in Minnesota or go play on the west coast somewhere.
Do you think Hinrich will be re-signed after the season?
Nick Friedell (2:52 PM)
I think there's a good chance if he'll take the veteran's minimum.
What ever happened to Jimmy Butler being a good shooter in last years playoffs?
Nick Friedell (2:59 PM)
Jimmy works hard on his shot and he'll continue to put in the work, but if he wants to get the big extension, he's got to prove that he can knock down the mid-range jumper consistently.
Nick Friedell (3:01 PM)
I'm out of here, guys. I'll talk to you next week from Indy. If you're at a game come over and say hello.
