Jeff Dickerson (2:33 PM)
Hi everybody. Got caught writing a story. Sorry I'm a little late. Let's get after it.
Eric (Arlington, VA)
Your best guess where the Bears go with #14? Odds on a trade?
Jeff Dickerson (2:36 PM)
I think the Bears would seriously consider trading back in the first round. There are a couple of DTs, CBs and at least one safety (Jimmie Ward) that are expected to be available in the late 20s. If the Bears stay at No. 14, I could see them taking Louisville's Calvin Pryor. Sounds as if Aaron Donald will be long gone. Other players to consider at No. 14 could be: Oklahoma State CB Justin Gilbert, Michigan State CB Darqueze Denard and maybe Alabama LB C.J. Mosley.
Kyle Long (Chi-town)
Jeff,A few mock drafts have predicted the bears taking an offensive tackle at 14, tell me that emery isn't giving up on my boy mills already!
Jeff Dickerson (2:37 PM)
That would be a huge surprise. Bears seem to be in a good spot at OT, even though Mills is recovering from foot surgery. But with Phil Emery...I guess anything is possible...He took a guy with 5 career starts at Oregon in the 1st round last year who turned out to be a Pro Bowler.

If both ha ha and calvin pryor are available which safety do u believe would best fit the bears system?
Jeff Dickerson (2:38 PM)
Although Clinton-Dix is terrific in coverage, I lean more in the direction of Pryor because the Bears need to get stronger up the middle of their defense and find defenders that are above average in run support.
Brian Turner (orlando fl.) [via mobile]
What position does the Bears have higher on their draft board DT or Safety?
Jeff Dickerson (2:40 PM)
Both are positions of need. It comes down to the specific players available on the board. Would be kind of surprised that after 4 rounds the Bears haven't added at least one DT and one S.
Better value for the Bears to draft a CB of S with the 14th pick?
Jeff Dickerson (2:41 PM)
Again, it just comes down to who the Bears prefer: Pryor, Clinton-Dix, Gilbert, Dennard, and who is available at No. 14 if they don't trade the pick.
Any chance Jimmie Ward ends up on Bears or is he gone by the time they pick in 2nd round?
Jeff Dickerson (2:42 PM)
I believe Jimmie Ward is a candidate to be drafted by the Bears if Phil Emery moves back to late in the 1st round. Not sure if he's still on the board at No. 51.
AJ (Naperville, IL)
Chances of Bucannon falling to the Bears at #51?
Jeff Dickerson (2:43 PM)
He could be there. Bucannon is also a big-hitter with 15 career interceptions. He visited Halas Hall. Can't dismiss it.
Are you buying Palmer as a qualified back-up?
Jeff Dickerson (2:44 PM)
I think most Bears' fans would agree that experience matters at the No. 2 QB spot. Just my opinion: the Bears need to find another veteran QB with starting experience to compete in training camp.
Dee Dog (Orange County CA)
If the Bears trade back into the late 20's, what do you see them getting in return?
Jeff Dickerson (2:45 PM)
Jimmie Ward. Perhaps. Or Minnesota DT Ra'Shede Hageman.
Matt (Denver, CO)
JD, will the Bears look at drafting a center in the 2nd or 3rd round? Weston Richburg is projected to be a very good pro from day 1.
Jeff Dickerson (2:46 PM)
Matt, I thought center was going to be a position of need until the Bears signed Brian de la Puente in free agency. They could be grooming him to be the guy after Roberto Garza calls it quits.
Masood (Wood Dale, IL)
JD, do you think shea will be walking around soldier field on friday without a shirt on?
Jeff Dickerson (2:47 PM)
Where do you see the bears drafting a RB to help back up our boy forte? I would be surprise if we dont have someone by the 4th round.
Jeff Dickerson (2:48 PM)
Can probably find a running back in the late rounds - 4-7.
Jake (Ames IA)
Any chance Bears move up to grab Donald in the first round?
Jeff Dickerson (2:49 PM)
It would be expensive. Emery made it sound unlikely at his press conference last week. Depending on the number of QBs selected, the Bears should have a good group of players to choose from at No. 14.
Marc (Memphis, TN )
Thanks for doing the chat! Who, in your opinion, are the 6 players that Emery is targeting for our first round pick? Thurs can't get here soon enough! Bear Down!
Jeff Dickerson (2:51 PM)
This is an inexact sciene, Marc, because the Bears do a great job keeping a lid on draft information. My best guess at the 6 players is:Aaron Donald, Calvin Pryor, Justin Gilbert, Darqueze Dennard, C.J. Mosley and a safety-to-be-named later. That's my way of saying I don't know if the Bears want Clinton-Dix or if they might prefer to trade down for Jimmie Ward. Best I can do!
Mike (Houston) [via mobile]
I'm enamored by Anthony Barr. Any chance the Bears draft him if available? He's got incredible upside and it's not like out OLB are exactly a strength right now.
Jeff Dickerson (2:53 PM)
Barr's measurables are off the charts. The Bears worked him out in LA. I don't know if they like him enough at No. 14. At No. 51? Absolutley. You can't pass on that talent in the 2nd round. There are questions about Barr's motor. I don't know where he'll be drafted. I've seen from as high as No. 13 all the way up the 2nd round in the mock drafts.
Jose Aguirre Oswego Illinois [via mobile]
I heard the bears brought in Kyle Fuller for a visit AND a workout...is this the most likely first round pick?
Jeff Dickerson (2:55 PM)
Probably should've added Fuller to the list of players the Bears would strongly consider if they trade back into the 20s.
Chances the Bears end up on HBO's Hard Knocks? Seems like they would be great watch with Cutler, Bennett, Marshall, Allen, and Tillman.
Jeff Dickerson (2:56 PM)
If the NFL tells the Bears to be on the show - the Bears will be on the show. That's it.
Carlos Garrido (Chicago, IL)
What do you think of the bears taking a QB, like a Keith Wennings from Ball State, in the later rounds ?
Jeff Dickerson (2:57 PM)
Emery made it sound as if the Bears are unlikely to draft a QB late. He said the only good QBs are the ones taken in the early rounds. But of course...this probably means the Bears will take a QB in the late rounds!
dan (madison, wi)
TE isn't a need but can you imagine what adding Ebron could do for out offense! Emery likes to throw us curveballs in the 1st round what are the odds of this happening?
Jeff Dickerson (2:59 PM)
Ebron and Texas Tech's Jace Amaro are both playmakers at TE. Never count out the Bears looking to add offensive weapons.
Joel (Apple Valley MN) [via mobile]
Will Jared Allen make a big impact as we hope
Jeff Dickerson (3:00 PM)
The Bears think he will. Allen does not look like a veteran player simply going through the motions. All the early reports have been positive.
Chris (Barrington, IL)
I am kind of surprised that with D.J. Williams injury history over the last couple years that not more people are concerned about MLB. To me S and MLB are our biggest concerns. Mosley is a stud. Is draft deeper at Safety or MLB?
Jeff Dickerson (3:01 PM)
Maybe a little deeper at LB. And the Bears do need a LB. Maybe Preston Brown from Louisville will interest them in the 4th round.
IF the Bears go Offense in the first 3 rounds, what position would they target?
Jeff Dickerson (3:02 PM)
You can make an argument for TE. Can probably wait until later for RB and WR.
Ron Twichell (St. Louis)
could they end up with that db from small school lindenwood
Jeff Dickerson (3:03 PM)
Pierre Desir. Maybe. He's the right size (6-foot-1, 198 pounds). 25 career interceptions, although he played Division II. 2nd or 3rd round potential.
Jeff Dickerson (3:04 PM)
Thank you everybody. Have to head to the city. Catch me and J Hood tonight from 7-10 on ESPN 1000.
