AJ Mass (11:00 AM)
Good morning, gang! We've got 60 minutes of fantasy baseball chattage up ahead, so let's get right to it, shall we? Second cup of coffee in hand, which of you retiring All-Stars is going to lead things off today?
Matt (Nanuet) [via mobile]
Is Cliff Lee's bad start a little overhyped? Are you starting him the 21st?
AJ Mass (11:02 AM)
I think the injury is the reason for concern -- not the first-half results. If his elbow is fine -- and the Phillies wouldn't throw him if they didn't think it was -- then you start him.
Ryan (Richmond, VA)
What exactly is going on with Taijuan Walker in Seattle? Management doesn't seem to be on his side for some reason, and do you think that'll affect his ability to perform or would he be better suited being traded to another team?
AJ Mass (11:03 AM)
Why do you say that? Of course they want him to succeed. If you're referring to his recent demotion, that was done simply to allow him to pitch through the ASB. I reject your premise completely.
who are you ending up w/ in FF mock drafts alot?
AJ Mass (11:04 AM)
I'm not doing any. I'm focused completely on MLB.
Rick (Elmira, NY)
Rizzo or Adams ROS?
AJ Mass (11:05 AM)
I like Rizzo a lot, but I'm going with Adams here.
Which would-be closer would you stash first: Giles or Ziegler?
AJ Mass (11:06 AM)
I stash Giles and hope the Phils find a taker for Paps.
Ryan (Richmond, VA)
I'm talking about his managers recent trashing of his last start in AAA. Expletives and all
AJ Mass (11:07 AM)
Different people respond differently to different types of motivation. Don't confuse the message for intent in cases like this.
Is S. Romo droppable now?
AJ Mass (11:08 AM)
I would hold on to him for a bit longer. Still think he gets one more crack at closing this season.
Pat [via mobile]
Pls rank for ROS? Laroche, A Gonzalez or Craig
AJ Mass (11:09 AM)
You've got the order correct.
Please rate ROS - Arrieta, Quintana, Kennedy
AJ Mass (11:10 AM)
Jake gets No. 1, Ian second.
How much more do you value Miguel Cabrera over Adrian Beltre? They've hit for about equal power, but Miggy has significantly more RBI's where Beltre's AVG is much better. Would a Beltre trade out of Texas into a more potent lineup up get him about equal with Miggy for the second half?
AJ Mass (11:12 AM)
Not expecting a Beltre deal, but I actually have them rated pretty evenly right now. Given injury risk, slight edge actually has to go to Adrian.
Don Von Handburger (Boston, MA)
Do I still start Verlander every time he goes out there?
AJ Mass (11:13 AM)
12-team league, probably. 10-team league, matchups.
El Guapo (Santa Polco)
Where would you rank R. Soriano among closers? I've seen him ranked as high as 10 and as low as 31, which is a huge gap.
AJ Mass (11:14 AM)
I'd rank him No. 19 among RP.
Would you be starting Khris Davis over Polanco at this point? Polanco kinda fizzled out for now...
AJ Mass (11:15 AM)
For now, yes. KD is my starter. Beware SNTS ("Shiny New Toy Syndrome")
Matty (Manhattan) [via mobile]
True or False: Alcantara stays in the majors for the rest of the year.
AJ Mass (11:16 AM)
Sheer guessitude here, but yes.
Weekly h2h league...finally play Hosmer over Chris Davis?
AJ Mass (11:16 AM)
I don't know about "finally" but, yes.
Is this trade vetoable? First place team gets E.Longoria, C.Gomez , S.Gray he gives up Melkey Cabrera, Mcgehee and D.Roberson.
AJ Mass (11:18 AM)
If your league allows trades, then allow trades unless and until you think one team is deliberately throwing players away. Period.
I only have room on my roster for one of these SP's who should it be? Locke, Vogelsong, Morton, Bauer?
AJ Mass (11:20 AM)
Let's go with LOST over 24... Locke for me.
Would you rather have Lucas Duda or CJ Cron as an everyday utility guy?
AJ Mass (11:21 AM)
Really a coin toss, but since the Mets haven't lost any games in the last four days, I'm feeling optimistic towards my Flushing friends.
Choo owner (Texas)
Very concerned about my stake in Shin-Soo Choo. What are fair expectations for ROS? ...would you start guys like Calhoun, Dickerson, etc. ahead of him?
AJ Mass (11:23 AM)
I am concerned as well, and a lot will have to do with what the Rangers do with their roster over the next few weeks. I'd bench for now for either of those guys.
Jeremy (at work)
Trying to trade for some pitching. First is Tanaka going to pitch this year? Second in a 6 person 6x6 keeper would you trade away Cargo, B harper, springer, polanco, stanton, kemp (if anybody will bite). THANKS
AJ Mass (11:24 AM)
I'd assume Tanaka is done. I would also trade anyone if the return value makes me better. You shop them all and see which deal makes the most sense. There are no untouchables.
Would you be okay with me dropping Allen Craig for Kris Bryant in hopes he is recalled?
AJ Mass (11:25 AM)
In theory, yes. But I have no reason to believe the Cubs will promote any of their top prospects this season.
Thoughts on Rubby ROS in 12 team points league please
AJ Mass (11:26 AM)
Assuming Sox trade Peavy, no reason to believe he won't be starting rest of the way. Makes RDLR a regular starter in your league.
Danny Ocean (Las Vegas)
Can you rank these 3 for ROS production - Xander, Jed, Brad Miller - 12 team roto...
AJ Mass (11:27 AM)
Jed, X-Man, Brad.
Brandon (Fargo, ND)
Should I give up on Shelby Miller? Pick up DeGrom or Jimmy Nelson and drop Miller?
AJ Mass (11:28 AM)
I really like Jacob. He'll have some clunkers mixed in there, but overall, I have more confidence in him for rest of 2014.
Thoughts on Henderson Alvarez ROS? Good numbers continue or is he due for some correction?
AJ Mass (11:29 AM)
I think he mostly maintains... I'd slot him in the No. 4 SP range.
ROS Doolittle, JSmith, Cishek, ZackBritton your rank h2h?
AJ Mass (11:30 AM)
That's the order.
Now that CarGo is back will Dickerson get enough playing time to make him fantasy relevant?. I hate to Starr him if he is only going to get 3-4 starts per week.
AJ Mass (11:31 AM)
I think he still has fantasy relevance, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a Rockies trade clear up some of the OF clutter in the next few weeks.
Hardy or Wong / Lackey or Wood ?
AJ Mass (11:32 AM)
Wong and Lackey.
Greybush (Weather Channel)
Can you rank these 4 for ROS production... cespedes, springer, bruce and harper?
AJ Mass (11:33 AM)
I think you're pretty much giving me the list in the proper order.
Ferris B (Chicago)
Are Steven Vogt and Steve Pearce a viable mixed league options ROS?
AJ Mass (11:34 AM)
I'm higher on Pearce, but depending on your needs, both can certainly help you out.
Jason (New York)
which side would you rather for year end: Cano/Frazier or Hanley/Braun?
AJ Mass (11:37 AM)
At the end of the day, both combos will likely net you similar value. That said, the injury risk to both parts of the latter duo makes me go with Cano side.
G Cobb (Phila.)
What do you think or Wainright serving up a softball to Jeter first pitch of ASG?
AJ Mass (11:38 AM)
Don't care, since the game doesn't count. If Jeter had popped it up, nobody would have blinked.
Chances Ken Giles becomes a closer? Will he be any good if so?
AJ Mass (11:39 AM)
He'll get some save chances as soon as Papelbon is gone, and likely will get chances in September regardless.
Darvish or Scherzer ROS?
AJ Mass (11:40 AM)
I'll go with Max.
Is Morton a hold or streamer 12 team H2H?
AJ Mass (11:41 AM)
He is a streamer.
Better 2nd half: CJ Wilson, Kuroda, Gausman, Buchholtz
AJ Mass (11:41 AM)
Georgette (St. Paul)
Softball does have relevance since home field advantage is at stake for WS no??
AJ Mass (11:43 AM)
Nonsense. If winning the game were really important, we wouldn't have a new pitcher after each commercial and Jeter wouldn't be in the lineup. It's not relevant.
H2H Kipnis or DanMurphy ROS?
AJ Mass (11:44 AM)
I'll roll with Murphy.
Why the universal apathy to what Danny Duffy is doing for the Royals? He's outperforming a lot of household/trendier names. And he's a RP/SP? Thanks.
AJ Mass (11:47 AM)
Because in spite of any opinion as to how he compares to other pitchers, in terms of the hard numbers, I've got him ranked 93rd YTD.
Everyone always forgets that home field advantage used to alternate between NL and AL every year. ASG outcome doesn't make it any more or less random.
AJ Mass (11:49 AM)
Technically, it does make it more random, since alternating precludes any other outcome... but I get your point.
AJ, curious, how many leagues do you win? How many do you end up in the top 3???
AJ Mass (11:50 AM)
I smell a straw man argument...
Hanley Ramirez ROS thoughts?
AJ Mass (11:52 AM)
If he stays healthy, he could remain a top 50 hitter.
Who's your early Big Brother front runner?
AJ Mass (11:53 AM)
Still plenty of backfire time, but Derrick reads the houseguests like few others before him.
Sale or Stras ROS
AJ Mass (11:53 AM)
Both strong. Sale better.
What's your take on keeper leagues? Will you trade a young guy with great value to try to help you win this year?
AJ Mass (11:54 AM)
For answer, see: Harvey, Matt. You play to win today. Tomorrow may not come.
AJ are u in the camp of Ian Desmond seriously regressing in the 2nd half?
AJ Mass (11:55 AM)
I'd say he is more likely to falter than not.
AJ Mass (11:57 AM)
That's my time for today, gang. Find me on Twitter if I didn't get to your question and I'll try to answer there. Until the next time, please check out "Yes It's Hot in Here" and as always, expect the unexpected!
