Chris Low (1:03 PM)
Let's go. A wild weekend in the SEC, huh? And around the country.
Mat (Harvest, AL )
Chris, will you be in Tuscaloosa this weekend? What do you see as the key to the game?
Chris Low (1:05 PM)
Yes, I plan to be in Tuscaloosa for the game. Alabama looks like a legitimate national championship threat to me. The key to this game will be if the Hogs can protect Ryan Mallett. If they can't, it's going to be a long afternoon for Bobby Petrino's bunch.
Will Julio be able to go against Arkansas this week?
Chris Low (1:07 PM)
He was dressed for the game last week, but I don't think the Tide were going to take any chances with him against that team. He should be good to go this week.
Trent Richardson (Bama)
Hey Chris... Am I one of the best RB's in the SEC now?
Chris Low (1:08 PM)
Trent, you'd be in my Top 5.
Kiffin was quoted as saying "Our players got to play free. ... They had no pressure on them, 30-point underdogs. I thought it helped our players a lot."Is that the right mindset for Kiffin to let his players have?...'we are supposed to lose really bad, so whatever happens today...no big deal'
Chris Low (1:10 PM)
No, I think Kiffin wanted his players to go in there and be loose and not worry about anything else. Tennessee's only chance was to shorten the game, keep it close and try to get to the fourth quarter. If the Vols make that a wide-open game, they have no shot.
John (Oxford, MS)
Chris, What does Mississippi have to do to win at South Carolina Thursday? We all no South Carolina on a Thursday night is one of the toughest places to play .
McElroy is lookn pretty good so far, any thoughts?
Chris Low (1:23 PM)
I think he looks really good, better than anybody could have expected. He can really throw the deep ball. With him playing this way, it opens up so many possibilities for Alabama's offense.
Caleb King looked pretty good in his season debut at Arkansas. He didn't carry it as much as Samuel, but he was great in protection. You think he's the starter in a couple weeks?
Chris Low (1:25 PM)
Just what Georgia needed, a power guy who can also break some tackles and turn some shorter runs into longer runs. He really ran hard against the Hogs.
Jay (San Diego)
Isn't Ole Miss overrated by the voters?
Chris Low (1:25 PM)
Ask me late Thursday night. I'll be in Columbia for that game. For sure, the Rebels haven't been challenged yet.
Do you think LSU has the potential to derail the gators when they play. Will the crowd of LSu be the main factor if they do come out victorious or will there be a couple of other keys in that win.
Chris Low (1:27 PM)
Sure, LSU has a chance to win that game. Playing in Tiger Stadium is never easy. LSU's defense looks to be getting better, and the Gators are having to lean too much on Tebow right now.
Alexa (Gainesville, FL)
I didn't like Florida's play calling against Tennessee on Saturday. Do you think it was Addazio, Urban, or jsut growing pains from losing Mullen?
Chris Low (1:28 PM)
Honestly, I think a lot of it was Monte Kiffin's defense. They really schemed up the Gators. The other factor was that once Florida got ahead, the only way Tennessee was going to win that game was if the Gators gave the Vols something easy. Therefore, Meyer was admittedly more conservative.
Mallory Edwards (Spartanburg, SC)
What do you think about the Gamecocks
Chris Low (1:30 PM)
It's refreshing to see Stephen Garcia playing better. He looks like the quarterback we all thought he'd be when the Gamecocks signed him. My big concern with South Carolina is how banged up they are on defense. They're already playing several young guys.
Craig G. (Fairfield, California)
Does the hype of Tebow keep him ahead of Jahvid Best in the Heisman race?
Chris Low (1:30 PM)
Best was No. 1 in my Heisman poll this week.
How close did the collision between Tebow and Berry come to knocking the earth of it's axis?
Chris Low (1:31 PM)
Just a great collision between two great players. I'm not sure how either player got up. The collision of the year so far, for sure.
Will (Washington, DC)
So Chris... if Ole Miss goes into Columbia this Thursday and wins big and wins big at Vanderbilt, what do you expect of the Alabama game on the 10th of October?
Chris Low (1:33 PM)
One gigantic party at the Grove. It would easily be the biggest game at Ole Miss in 40 years. Two outstanding defensive lines going at it with playmakers to go around on offense.
what are your thoughts about Joe Cox after the Arkansas game?
Chris Low (1:34 PM)
What a tough guy he is and a resilient guy. I don't believe his shoulder is 100 percent, but you couldn't tell it by the way he threw the ball against Arkansas.
Hey Chris can Alabama beat Florida if they meet in the SEC championship game?
Chris Low (1:35 PM)
From what I've seen this year, I think Alabama can beat anybody in the country. Just a great defense with a quarterback who's going to keep improving and a running game that has a lot of parts to it.
Chris,What are your thoughts of the atmosphere in Jordan-Hare last Saturday, especially during the monsoon? I still haven't dried out.
Chris Low (1:37 PM)
All I can say is that the students there are nuts. They stayed out there during that whole thing, raising you know what. Seriously, there was a lot of energy in that stadium, and it's obvious the team played off that energy. The neat thing is that the crowd didn't die down even after Auburn fell behind 14-0.
Do you think the Razorbacks can have a winning record with their defense?
Chris Low (1:38 PM)
Not with the defense I saw Saturday night against Georgia.
The SEC east is a mess. Even FL looks flawed. As bad as UGA's defense has been, at 2-0 in the conference that LSU/UGA matchup in 2 weeks is huge. If the Dawgs can eke it out, it could get interesting.
Chris Low (1:39 PM)
The whole complexion of Georgia's season changes if the Dogs can win these next two games at home, including LSU in two weeks.
If T Richardson is in your top five rb's in the SEC, Who are the other four?
Chris Low (1:43 PM)
Based on this season, I'd also have Ingram in my top 5 along with Hardesty, Tate and Dixon. Demps, Scott and Smith will all be there before it's over, I would think.
Relf or Lee? Who has shown you more this year for MSU to stay on the field for an entire game?
Chris Low (1:44 PM)
I haven't seen a huge difference. Relf gives you more in terms of running the football and doing some things there.
No Bolden in your top 5 RBs in the league? I'm hoping that changes after he continues his outstanding play when OM goes to Columbia.
Chris Low (1:45 PM)
I want to see Bolden play against a legitimate defense first.
Tom (Knoxville TN)
Did Eric Berry improve his chances of winning the Heisman after his performance in the UT/FL game?
Chris Low (1:47 PM)
I don't think Berry will have the overall numbers to win the Heisman, but he's still a terrific player, one of the best defenders in all of college football.
Hi Chris - love the blog. I am an addict and check it 2-3 times a day. Die hard Bama fan, but worried the hype will get to them wanted to get your thoughts on that and one other thing. I have watched all the Bama and Florida games so far this year, and am I just biased, or are Ro' McLain and Hightower actually showing better fundamentals and flow to the ball (a.k.a. instincts) than Spikes? Not that Spikes isn't great, and this id really splitting hairs since they could easily be considered the best 3 LB's in the country
Chris Low (1:49 PM)
McClain and Hightower form what I think is the best linebacker tandem in the country. They're both so versatile, too. McClain can cover. He can pursue and can rush the passer. Alabama is using Hightower as a defensive end on obvious passing downs.
Steve (Columbia, SC)
Do you think Florida's Achilles heel is there WRs?
Chris Low (1:52 PM)
Yes and I think Urban Meyer does, too. Losing Debose hurt, and the Gators really need Deonte Thompson to come on and be more consistent. He missed the Tennessee game with a hamstring injury.
nick (atlantic beach fl)
your opinion of the new aburn staff, not just coach chizik?
Chris Low (1:54 PM)
I like the Auburn staff. Taylor and Luper are both proven recruiters. It's always nice to have a former head coach with the experience Roof has as your defensive coordinator, and I'd say it's about time all of college football realizes that Gus Malzahn is one of the best offensive minds in the game.
Brandon (Batesville, Ms)
You have talked alot about Ole Miss- SC on thursday night and only say "wait and see". What do you think will be the outcome of this game?
Chris Low (1:55 PM)
I've got the Rebels pulling away late. I think it will be close the whole way, though.
Certainly wasn't overly impressed with Kentucky, but do you give them any shot to win one of these two titanic home games? Both UF and Alabama have their "games of the year" the week after UK.
Chris Low (1:57 PM)
Just a dismal third quarter by Kentucky. I'm not sold on the Wildcats on defense. Randall Cobb saved them with a couple of huge plays. But, not, I don't see them beating either Florida or Alabama at home.
alexander burshak (Birmingham, AL)
Aren't we overreacting to Florida's slow start? This time last year they looked a little flawed.
Chris Low (1:58 PM)
Great point. Many of the Florida fans were grumbling about the offense after the wins over Miami and Tennessee. But that offense had Percy Harvin, and once he got healthy, the Gators took off. This offense doesn't have Harvin.
So if the Rebs' are going to have a tight game with SC - How will they beat LSU or Bama? Isn't the number 4 team in the country suppossed to dominate an unranked foe?
Chris Low (1:59 PM)
Happens all the time in the SEC. See Florida's game with Tennessee last weekend.
LSU has improved over the last 3 weeks. As a fan, I am most concerned by their O-line. They didn't run the ball well against ULL, IMO. What would you say is the area they need to see the biggest improvement in to have a chance to beat UF and UA?
Chris Low (2:01 PM)
Running the ball more consistently would be right there at the top, along with not giving up some of the big plays the Tigers did on defense against Washington.
Jonny (Jacksonville, FL)
Early choice for SEC Player of the Year, Coach of the Year and Freshman of the Year?
Chris Low (2:04 PM)
I'll tackle this one, even though we all know it could change dramatically over the next few weeks. Player of the Year would still be Tebow because of what he means to that team. Defensive Player of the Year would be Eric Norwood at South Carolina. I'll go with Chizik as Coach of the Year and Trent Richardson as Freshman of the Year.
scott kay (Conway, Arkansas)
Will Ryan Mallett emerge as the best QB in the SEC by the end of the year?
Chris Low (2:05 PM)
I already think he's one of the best three or four along with Tebow, Snead and McElroy.
Chris Low (2:06 PM)
As always, thanks for the questions and we'll do it again next week.
