Bill Williamson (2:02 PM)
Hi everyone, let's get started.
Mark (San Diego)
Would the Chargers be interested in Flozell Adams for RT insurance?
Bill Williamson (2:04 PM)
I think he'll hold out for a LT gig -- maybe Denver if Clady doesn't progress as quickly as he hopes.
A (Los Angeles)
I think a lot of Charger fans are pretty fed up with the immaturity of Shaun Phillips. The Cromartie trade showed there's a precedent for dumping guys like that. Any chance he's the LB that gets moved rather than Merriman?
Bill Williamson (2:05 PM)
I think the team is Ok with Phillips and that's what counts the most.
Brandon Bailey (Las Vegas)
Do you think Al Davis is still calling the shots in Oakland? They've made some really good moves this off season and I want to give Al credit but history tells me otherwise. Has Al come around or is someone else running things now?Love the blog, keep up the good work!
Denton (Hays, KS)
With Shannahan getting fired through trades of Cutler and Marshall and now to Clady getting hurt. What is the best way to sum up the things that have been happening in Denver?
Bill Williamson (2:07 PM)
Al calls the shots. Give credit when credit is due. He did a nice job last week.
Bill Williamson (2:08 PM)
To answer the Denver question. Here's a way to sum it up: chaos.
John (Oakland, MI)
Are the Redskins still looking to trade Haynesworth, if so could the Raiders still be interested and at what price would he be? I hear Houston, who they drafted in the 2nd round, is slated for DE.
Bill Williamson (2:11 PM)
I don't see Okaland being a fit right now.
jt (Kansas city, kansas)
with the henderson visit never happened. Are the cheifs really content with the defense line? i still think that they need a nose tackle to a least rotate with ron edwards.
Bill Williamson (2:13 PM)
I'm not sure if they are contntn and I think they will continue to look. But I know there has bene no serious interest in Henderson -- yet.
John (Oakland, MI)
What are the Raiders trying to do at linebacker? I don't see Trevor Scott as a true OLB. He doesn't have any cover skills does he?? Do they still plan on keeping Howard?
Bill Williamson (2:14 PM)
They relaly like Scott. He has some nice pass-rushing skills. I think Howard tkaes a back seat to Scott.
What's the word on Dumervil? Is he going to get an extension? Is no news good news so far?
Bill Williamson (2:15 PM)
It will look itself out. He'll sign an extension sometime in the next year.
With Tim Tebow getting all the attention, what's the news on the FIRST 1st rounder in Denver? What can be expected from Thomas? Does he break tackles like the old #15?
Bill Williamson (2:17 PM)
I hear great things about him. He has a chance to be the No. 1 this year. But it is a lot to ask for a rookie to make an impact like Marshall did. But I think Thomas has a real chance down the line.
Why did we trade for Quinn if we were planning on drafting Tebow and making him our QB of the future?
Bill Williamson (2:18 PM)
Great question, Steve.
Mike H (Philly)
A lot of columnists think the Chargers draft was average, at best, as they gave up to much for Mathews. However, many pre-draft predictions had Mathews going to SD at 28, and Cam Thomas going to them at 40, and saying that would be a perfect draft for them. So they've lost a 4th round pick next year, but still have them, plus several other interesting prospects. What the hey?
Bill Williamson (2:20 PM)
I'm with you. I liked it. The Chargers didn't get a ton of players, but they got the players they wnated it. I like what they did a lot.
Has Denver done enough to fill the glaring need for depth on the D-line?
Bill Williamson (2:21 PM)
They got a lot of veteran help. If Jamal Williams can stay healthy, they should be fine.
Why didn't anyone take Colt MCoy earlier in the draft? He has proven he can play great in the big one and win the big one.
Bill Williamson (2:22 PM)
I think his size really bothered teams.
Austin (Flagstaff Az)
Hey bill just a quick question, do you believe the chargers are still A SB contender this year with the addition of ryan mathews? and what is your take on mathews do you believe he has what it takes to be a premier back in this league?
Bill Williamson (2:25 PM)
Yes, I think the Chargers can be a top level team again. If Mathews stays healthy, I think he wll be a fun player to watch.
Steve (San Diego,CA)
How do you like the drafting of Donald Butler and Darrell Stuckey for the Chargers?
Bill Williamson (2:28 PM)
They are two special teams prospects for the time being and two staring prospects in a year or two. They both can be quality picks.
Tom (San Diego)
Any chance Cam Thomas starts this year for the Chargers?
Bill Williamson (2:30 PM)
A bit of a stretch, but he could have a shot if he progresses very, very quickly.
Project Dexter McCluster's rookie numbers!
Bill Williamson (2:32 PM)
Good one, but a tough one: 40 catches, 650 yards, five TDs ... One return TD.
Blake (Abilene, TX)
Bill, That 2nd round pick for the Raiders Lamar Houston is a beast. He was a little overshdowed by Sergio Kindle. Great athalete, I believe Houston played RB and LB in Highschool. Im not sure the raiders fans know how good he can be.
Bill Williamson (2:34 PM)
Oakland plans on using him at DE. I epxect him to be very active and to help Oakland against the run, which is a huge need.
Tanner (San Diego)
What's your projection for Ryan Mathews rookie season numbers?
Bill Williamson (2:39 PM)
Well, Norv Turner sees him getting 250 carries and 40 catches. I did a post earlier Thursday and his numbers jibes with some of the better running backs in the league.
Antwaun (Washington DC)
Nice work keeping the West updated all off-season Bill, do you think McClain will be the missing piece to Oakland's D? They say defense wins championships right?
Bill Williamson (2:41 PM)
Thank you, sir ... I love McClain and i think he is going to be a big-time player. But there are other problems on this defense. But he will help, no doubt about it.
CT (Morgan Hill)
Bill: Have you heard any connection between Oakland and either John Henderson or Flozell Adams? With all due respect, it's not fair to expect Rolando McClain to fix under-performing DT Tommy Kelly. And Jason Campbell is still playing behind a pretty poor offensive line.
Bill Williamson (2:44 PM)
No, not yet. But I think both of those players could help some in Oakland.
How serious is the Clady injury? I have heard that he could miss 3-4 months or the entire season. What have you heard. This is the straw that broke the Broncos back.
Bill Williamson (2:45 PM)
I think the best way to look at it now is that he will be out for 4-6 months.I wouldn't be surprised if he msised a couple of games.
Raiders: 8 or 9 wins this year?
Bill Williamson (2:45 PM)
Kiper, McShay, et al seemed pretty lukewarm about KC's draft. Two guys though, Gosselin and Schefter, both seemed thrilled with it. Who do you agree with and why?
Bill Williamson (2:49 PM)
I gave it a B-, for what that's worth. I think it was decent. The Chiefs got some playmakers. There is some talent coming to Kansas City and that's huge for this young roster.
Were you surprised San Diego used such an early pick on another MLB -- Butler, when they already have Siler, Burnett, and Cooper.
Bill Williamson (2:50 PM)
I think they see a future of Siler and Butler.
Brandon Bailey (Las Vegas)
I forgot to ask about Thomas Howard. Do you see him working in the new scheme or will he go he way of Morrison?
Bill Williamson (2:51 PM)
I think Oakland would trade him if a good deal was out there.
Hayden (Logan, Utah)
does tebow get any snaps this year?
Bill Williamson (2:54 PM)
Yes, I think so. There will be some packages ready for him. As soon as the team thinks he's ready to be the starter, he will be.
Why aren't the Chiefs bringing in Big John Henderson for a visit??
Bill Williamson (2:56 PM)
I don't think they are all that interested at this point.
Is shanny over the whole thing with the Broncos or was the comment about Tebow being to good to be true whote glove slap at his old team?
Bill Williamson (2:58 PM)
I think Shanahan is completely focused on the Redskins.
Hey Bill, enjoy your work. I can see the Raiders, gasp, being the second best team in the AFC West next year and maybe even breaking 8-8. Do you agree?
Bill Williamson (2:59 PM)
Sure, I think they can be average. I think they are slightly ahead of Denver and K.C. right now.
How much do you see the rookie Offensive line men the raiders drafted contributing this year? I have hear Campbell is going to play gaurd and the other kid is going to play RT. I do know they have a little depth finally. What are your thoughts? I love your blogs. I am a daily reader.
Bill Williamson (3:00 PM)
I think they both guys to look in the future, beginning in 2011.
Bill Williamson (3:02 PM)
Thanks for the great hour, anyone. Talk to you next week.
