phil (san deigo)
Hello Bill, with the addition of Ryan Mathews and our D-line rotation do the chargers have enough to finally win a super bowl???
Bill Williamson (2:05 PM)
Mathews will have to make a strong impact right away and Merriman will have get all the way back from his knee surgery. I think that is both possible. San Diego is a fine team.
do you believe Al Davis has trust in Cable with the team
Bill Williamson (2:06 PM)
If he didn't, Cable wouldn't be there.
Hey Bill, do you think the Raiders will be running the 3-4 half the time or will it be a chance of pace thing?
Bill Williamson (2:08 PM)
The team says the 4-3 will be the same defense, but they do have some plaeyrs who fit the 3-4. So, I can see Oakland using it a decent amount of time.
Trevor (Saratoga NY)
What is Denver's reason for trading for Brady Quinn, then a month later giving up 3 picks to draft Tebow? Is Quinn still in Denver's plans in anyway?
Bill Williamson (2:11 PM)
I'd say his best chnces are now as a backup in Denver.
Ryan (El Cajon, Ca)
I actually see the Raiders being the challenge this year for the Chargers and not the Broncos. What do you think?
Bill Williamson (2:13 PM)
I'm not sure anyone will challenge San Diego. But I think Oakland could be the second-best team in the division.
Mike (Buffalo, N.Y. )
Any new news on the Oakland Raiders front for maybe signing free agents or cutting a Qb whi has sucked the life out of all the Nations fans
Bill Williamson (2:14 PM)
Whom might you be referring to, Mike?
Who has a brighter future in Denver, Orton or Quinn?
Bill Williamson (2:15 PM)
I'd say Quinn. I think Orton is gone in 2011.
Chris (San Diego)
Is it me, or does Tebow remind you of Brees when he was drafted?Undersized, not known for arm stregth, proven winner etc..
Bill Williamson (2:16 PM)
Tebow is not small. Dude is a beast. 6-3, 240. benched 225 pounds 38 times at the combine.
Travis (Nevada City CA)
Bill - thanks for all the work you do! Do you think that adding Weise and Crennel is enough to take our current talent and compete at a playoff level? It just seems like everyone wants more flash now. Do you think collectively they have that "IT" factor at the top and that's enough?
Bill Williamson (2:17 PM)
Thanks, Travis .. The playoffs may be a lot to ask for, but I do think the Chiefs can win 3-4 more games than they did last season.
Charlie (North Pole, AK)
Will McFadden ever be superstar?
Bill Williamson (2:19 PM)
If so, he better get going now. This is his third NFl season and running backs have a short-self life. His clock is ticking.
Do you think a Tebow / Rivers rivalry would be as good as the former Cutler / Rivers rivalry?
Bill Williamson (2:21 PM)
I don't see Tebow engaging in the verbal sparring that Cutler did.
Trevor (Orange Grove, TX)
Bill, there's been a lot of rumors lately regarding a Merriman trade. What are the chances he'll be wearing a lightning bolt for the 2010 season?
Bill Williamson (2:24 PM)
I think the odds are very strong that Merriman will be back in San Diego this season. As for 2011, all bets are off.
Charlie (North Pole, AK)
Is the Chargers offense going to be as good as it has been last couple of years?
Bill Williamson (2:25 PM)
Sohould be better because Mathews will give he offense good balanbce.
Nick (Athens, Ga)
How do you think Dumervil will do for the Broncos this year? Last year was sick. Do you think he can get close to those numbers again?
Bill Williamson (2:25 PM)
I see him being a consistent 15-20 sack guy in the 3-4 defense.
Kevin (New York)
Do you see Tebow becoming a starting quarterback within th next 3 seasons for the Broncos? Mcdaniels is a great quarterback coach and if anyone could do it he would.
Bill Williamson (2:27 PM)
I think he will be the starter by 2011. He was drafted to play.
Zach (Lincoln, NE)
Bill, with Wiegman being traded and Pouncey going to the Steelers, who do you see as the Broncos starting center by game 1?
Bill Williamson (2:30 PM)
I think it's going to be third-round pick J.D. Walton of Baylor.
Aaron (Little Rock, AR)
Is there any chance of Denver looking into Flozell Adams or even Ken Hamlin? (I know Hamlin is a long shot, I was just curious because he used to be a Razorback)
Bill Williamson (2:31 PM)
Maybe Adams ... if Clady will be out longer than expected.
Any word on if Denver is getting close to getting a deal done with Dumervile?
Bill Williamson (2:32 PM)
Nothing yet, but I see Denver eventually getting a deal done.
Do you find Oakland's schedule favorable like I do? We will see right away how McClain and Houston can improve a Run D by opening against the Titans, but then you have St Louis, Arizona, Houston, and SD at home. I think Oakland is capable of beating anyone in the AFC West and their non conference schedule offers Indy, the rest of the teams that are non con for Oakland are not dominant teams Oakland can't beat IMO. Many have questions just like Oakland, Arz QB?, STL QB?, PITT QB?, just think that Oakland has a chance to turn it around with this schedule.
Bill Williamson (2:33 PM)
Yes, Oakland has a pretty workable schedule.
Rob (San Diego)
Do you see Denver pushing for the division title or a wildcard birth this season?
Bill Williamson (2:35 PM)
I think that would be a stretch at this point.
Isaac (San Jose)
Hey Bill a lot of people are speculating that due to Chaz's injury problems we might bring in TO. Is there any truth to that?
Bill Williamson (2:39 PM)
Until Owesn is signed elsewhere, I have to think Oakland is an option. It's not a bad fit. Oakland coudl really use a vteran option.
Tavo (Chula Vista)
Hey Bill, what do you think the chances are of Cam Thomas to start at NT for the chargers?
Bill Williamson (2:42 PM)
He's an inteesting player. Many people thought he'd go in the second. He is a steal in the fifth round. If he comees on strong, I think he can play a major role right away.
I didn't see odds on Eric Decker winning the ROY in your earlier post, what do you believe the odds are for him because i believe he will be a fine player for Denver?
Bill Williamson (2:45 PM)
I'm a little nervous abotu his foot injuyr. I think Decker wll be very good and Denver will use him well. But I'm just not sure he will be ready to be a big-time performer at the start of the season.
James (College Park)
What are the chances of a rebound second-season for Heyward-Bey for the Raiders?
Bill Williamson (2:46 PM)
He's still very raw. It may take a while.
Brandon (Billings, MT)
Love the blog Bill.! Who has more yards this season Jamaal Charles or Chris Johnson?
Bill Williamson (2:48 PM)
Love Charles' potential, but gotta go with Johnson this year.
Do you see any of the OL the Raiders drafted this year starting this season?
Bill Williamson (2:49 PM)
Maybe Jared Veldheer at right tackle.
Will the Chiefs' O-line be improved enough to keep Cassel on his feet all year?
Bill Williamson (2:50 PM)
It's a lot with better with Wiegmann and Lilja. Cassel has a lot more help this year.
Brenton (Los Angeles)
With Denver's obviously improved defense (the front 3, better corners for nickel and dime packages) and a bigger power blocking scheme (which suits Moreno better), don't the Broncos have a decent chance at a winning season, maybe playoffs if the QB play is good?
Bill Williamson (2:54 PM)
They have to stop the run and get consistent receiver help to have a chances for a winning season.
Any chance T.O. will end up on a team in the AFC West?
Bill Williamson (2:57 PM)
I asked McDaniels at the draft if he could bring in a veteran receiver. He said no. The only place in the division I see Owens potentially landing is Oakland.
Bill, any chance that the bolts still trade one of their restricted FA's. I know they were shopping Merriman around.
Bill Williamson (2:59 PM)
Merriman is the most likely, but I don't see that happening, either.
Frank (San Diego)
Bill, would you consider this a Superbowl or bust year for the Chargers?
Bill Williamson (3:00 PM)
No, not with Rivers in his prime. The window is open. This team isn't old.
Bill Williamson (3:00 PM)
Great hour, folks. Talk to you soon.
