Jim McCormick (3:00 PM)
What's up everyone? Let's get started...
Is Boldin a perfect sell high candidate right now, coming off that monster performance? If so what can i get for him?
Jim McCormick (3:03 PM)
There seems to be a growing trend of people seeking to sell-high after nearly any atypically awesome game - and I get it, to a degree, but with Boldin it's clear that he's the transcendent talent in that receiving corps and Flacco is starting to lock-in on him. That said, you can of course always shop him, but there's no harm in owning him either - I often consider "sell-high" commodities to be more of the Brandon Jackson (before he even started) types, where you can't tell the production should continue, if at all.
Chiefs offense in week 3 - statistical anomaly or sign of good things to come?
Jim McCormick (3:05 PM)
Sure seems like an outlier given that they were spinning their wheels vs. SD and Cleveland. San Francisco just swapped out two starters on defense and are surrendering the most points in football. It certainly was a positive sign, but I'm not sure there's any change in the market value of their talents, outside of say Thomas Jones cementing his role and value.
Burt (Cambridge, MA)
3 current back-ups that could be huge in the 2nd half of the season are...______ + ______ ______.
Jim McCormick (3:07 PM)
Mad Libs style; Ryan Torain, Donald Brown and Rashad Jennings.
Big Jim, we have the same name. you half to answer my question. I need to trade Fitzgerald. What RB can I get in return? Foster or McFadden enough to make you part ways?
Jim McCormick (3:09 PM)
I can't see how you'd land Foster for Fitz at the moment, even though it's just three weeks in, their values have shifted dramatically. I'd still seek a legit stud RB if you are in need at the position, seek out the team's in your league that seem in need at wideout - Fitz is still a legit commodity, just a deflated one.
Jim, Do you recommend dropping Vjax for Hasselbeck, J.Jones or Manningham for a bench spot in a 10 Team PPR OP league?
Jim McCormick (3:09 PM)
In an OP league if you need more stability at QB I'd go for Hasselbeck, can't say it's worth holding Jackson in a 10-teamer at this time.
Alright Jim. Let's start it off with an IDP question. Sean Considine or Dashon Goldson this week?
Jim McCormick (3:11 PM)
Not exactly starting it off, but I'll always take some IDP queries - both of these guys make for good starts this week - but with Considine likely to be very busy chasing down Colts I'd give him the nod, if just for this week.
Your thoughts on RB Darby this weekend?
Jim McCormick (3:15 PM)
Sounds kind of funny if you say RB Darby a few times. I grew up in a town called Upper Darby, so I'm partial to the guy. But, we must consider that Steven Jackson reported on his Twitter feed that his groin strain was feeling better after acupuncture treatment - no really. Joking aside, I think Jackson will be a GTD, and a murky one at that, giving Darby some value, although against a Seattle defense that ranks 5th vs. the run so far (albeit a skewed and small sample size). I think Darby is a flex play or bye week plug-in at best, and a certain handcuff for Jackson owners.
Is Marshawn Lynch going to Green Bay, somewhere else or to eternal purgatory in Buf?
Jim McCormick (3:17 PM)
Can't really predict these things but it seems likely that Buffalo would be best served getting value for Lynch as they can use all of the draft picks they can handle in their enduring rebuilding process. As it stands, Lynch is getting enough work to be a flex consideration and if anything the better he plays the more promising he would seem if he were to get traded to say a Green Bay.
Hey Jim, who's likely to become the emerging feature back, Ryan Torrain or Legarett Blount?
Jim McCormick (3:19 PM)
Torain has been a fantasy deep sleeper for some time ever since his Denver days with Shanahan. He's never done anything on the field, really, outside of last week's near-50 yard performance. With Blount, I'm not convinced Graham and Huggins wouldn't factor into that gig, and divide the value. Same can be said of Washington, I suppose, but I can't see them letting Portis plod through an entire season like this.
What can we expect from Seneca Wallace this week?
Jim McCormick (3:22 PM)
Quality clipboarding? Mangini said that Delhomme would likely be his starter given that he's able to go, and he did practice today, in a "limited" fashion, however. Clearly, outside of 16-team 2-QB leagues, I'd stay away from this one.
Is Arian Foster a good sell-high candidate?
Jim McCormick (3:23 PM)
Nope, dude is elite. Yep, this quickly.
Big Jim! Need your help! Would you trade Vick for Romo & MSW?
Jim McCormick (3:24 PM)
Gotta say I'm looking at MSW as merely a throw-in here, and think you should really view this deal as Vick for Romo straight up. In which case, I prefer Romo, but it's getting closer with each week that Vick continues his prolific production.
Would you bench Rice and Calvin Johnson this week for Maclin and Forsett/Bradshaw?
Jim McCormick (3:26 PM)
Yep, I would. One of the toughest things to do in fantasy is sit our studs, often for good reason. In this case - Maclin is up there with Collie as the hottest hands in the league right now, and I like both Forsett's and Bradshaw's matchups enough to sit a gimpy Rice in a tough matchup.
which TE you like this week....Boss, Daniels, Shockey, Heap, Gresham, M Lewis, Winslow? Or do you have a sleeper TE this week?
Jim McCormick (3:29 PM)
I assume Hernandez is taken here. Winslow on bye, so I'd go with Lewis just over Gresham. The Jags, even though this hasn't helped lately, will need to pass often this weekend.
Confused for this week with P. Thomas banged up would you consider starting Peyton Hillis?
Jim McCormick (3:31 PM)
I would more than consider it, I've read some guarded optimism about Thomas and his chances to play this weekend, but Hillis is sure-bet to get a bevy of touches.
could Hernandez be a top 10 TE by the end of the season?
Jim McCormick (3:32 PM)
Sure, it's a fickle position and he's getting the snaps to make a 60-plus reception season a possibility. We've heard for a few seasons now about how Brady needed that third receiver, ends up it came in the form of a tight end. Gronk still figures in for the red zone looks, but Hernandez has the weekly value.
Detroit has given up 30, 30, and 31 points in the first 3 weeks to apposing RB's Which GB back are you rolling with? Do they get 30 points combined?
Jim McCormick (3:34 PM)
Lots of questions pouring in about using either Kuhn or Jackson from Green Bay's shallow backfield against this porous Detroit defense. I honestly like Kuhn more, if for short-TD potential and some ability to move piles. It seems that when Jackson sputter the team often just abandons the run between the 20s.
Tom (Buffalo, NY)
Jim, would you trade Jacoby Jones and Gaffney for McFadden?
Jim McCormick (3:34 PM)
Drop Celek for Zach Miller, or ride him out a couple more weeks?
Jim McCormick (3:37 PM)
We are somehow rapidly approaching Celek's "Man Up" moment - where he needs to start producing again or the luster will truly be lost, at least for this season. The problem, clearly, isn't Celek, but the lack of attention he's getting from Vick so far. I still think there's time and room for him to embed into the offense. But it also seems that the concept of Celek being an elite, top-4,5 guy is somewhat defeated. Miller is a nice comparable talent, but I'd give Celek this week at least to step up.
If Andre Johnson plays, should I start him even though he has a bum ankle and is likely to pull Nhamdi in man to man coverage?I'm looking at starting Johnny Knox or Mike Sims-Walker in his place.
Jim McCormick (3:40 PM)
I'd let some more information come in, although I'm not sure it will be very revealing info. I think Johnson will do his best to get out there in an important road game for Houston, and Asomugha often plays his side, versus tailing a wideout. Either way, I'd have Knox ready to go since you can wait out Andre's status given Chicago's night game. If Andre is a go, I'd get him in there, if not, you have Knox in the wings. Clearly ,though, not every Johnson owner has this luxury.
In a 16 team league..despearate for RB Help @ RB2...Torrain or Tolbert? PPR league
Jim McCormick (3:41 PM)
Torain for the long-haul seems a tad more valuable, but Tolbert is currently still a factor and is regarded as the goal line guy by most accounts.
Maroney (assuming Moreno's out) or Ivory (assuming Thomas is out)??
Jim McCormick (3:42 PM)
Ivory is a little dinged himself from what I understand, and I like Maroney a tad more anyway. Not that I expect much, but I do see him getting any goaline looks and enough work to muster some flex-worthy numbers if you're in a bind.
Big AL (TX)
best defensive play this week cinci, atl, or seattle
Jim McCormick (3:44 PM)
Not a fan of Seattle's defense both on the road and against a game Sam Bradford coming off an effective dissection of the Skins at home. It's between Cinci and ATL, and I'll go with the Bengals in what will be a grind of a game, likely very low-scoring.
Matt "The Beast" Futch (Law School Class)
Lightning round!!! Keeping with the Mad Libs; Top 5 WR's at years end in order are ______, ______, _______, ________, ________?
Jim McCormick (3:46 PM)
Helping out dude's that go by "The Beast" while they work on their law degrees, that's why we are here my friends. Austin, Johnson, Moss, White and Wayne. A little veteran-heavy, but all are in such good spots to produce. Not sure how this helps, but it has been done.
Brian (Little Rock)
THINK FAST!!!!!!!!!: Welker or Driver? Hillis, Ronnie Brown, or LT?
Jim McCormick (3:46 PM)
Welker and Tomlinson.
Mccoy or Collie
Jim McCormick (3:46 PM)
Collie, for now, just too hot to sit.
Beanie Wells (Arizona)
I am the man now in AZ!!!! no????
Jim McCormick (3:48 PM)
For the majority of the rushing attempts, yes, you are.
Drop Bowe for Torain?
Jim McCormick (3:49 PM)
Nah, Torain is just a buzz name right now because he's long been on experts' and fellow esteemed nerds' sleeper lists. That, and Clinton Portis looks like George Clinton out their right now. I'd stick with Bowe, but see if there's another way to get this guy on your roster if you can afford to stash him. It's just as likely, if more than likely, that Torain's value doesn't materialize, it's just an upside prospect.
Rank these running backs for the rest of the year...Hillis, Forte, Tomlinson
Jim McCormick (3:51 PM)
I think it's Forte, Tomlinson and Hillis. With PH it's more about his team and their propensity to get down and potentially abandon the run that influences this more than his talent etc.
BGE has similar production this week. True or False?
Jim McCormick (3:53 PM)
Pretty rude to the Jarvis factor, but I can recover from it, I would say false - he won't get as many touches, but could still have value as a flex. New England can and will pass on this Miami secondary.
Bradshaw or Beanie this wk?
Jim McCormick (3:54 PM)
I like Bradshaw a lot this season, still think he's underrated given his steady workload. At home, he's scored in three of his four last home games, I believe, something like that. I'd give AB the shot and let Beanie play his way back into your lineup int his case.
The bye week is destroying my already pathtic WR corps. With Harvin and Bowe out, who should I start opposite Maclin: Demaryius Thomas or Mr. Consistency Lance Moore?
Jim McCormick (3:55 PM)
Roll the dice on Moore.
Follow-up to the BJGE question.... Who do you like better as a flex, him or Brandon Tate?
Jim McCormick (3:56 PM)
The Firm, still think he's the best bet in that backfield to do anything - not that they always need much from their backfield - while Tate is a buried option in most cases behind legit targets.
Better keeper IDP: Daryl Washington, Cushing, Clay Matthews?
Jim McCormick (3:57 PM)
Mathews, but Cushing is close. Need to see some play-making out of Washington, lots of tackle-machines out there.
Jim, in a 14 team league do you think dropping Fjax for Legarrette Blount is a smart move?? Thanks.
Jim McCormick (3:57 PM)
I think it's reasonable, at least bears some upside.
Is Kevin Walter a top 10 WR this week if Andre sits?
Jim McCormick (3:58 PM)
Top ten could be a little high, as I'm not sure Jones couldn't be the top guy in his place or something random like David Anderson. Of course, they could just lean on Arian Foster most of the day. I like Walter this week, as a solid second option, but not a premier one.
What is the deal with Colston? Start Wallace over him this week?
Jim McCormick (3:59 PM)
I'm not sure Wallace can't be just as frustrating - I'd actually give Colston the nod here, he's due.
Are Brian Hartline and Davone Bess essentially the same player? Any reason to pick one over the other? Thanks for your thoughts.
Jim McCormick (4:00 PM)
Yeah they are pretty close, marginal differences in value - Bess could see a bigger boost in PPR, of course, just based on his history.
Ryan (Germantown, MD)
Is Donald Brown a viable starter?
Jim McCormick (4:02 PM)
Not just yet. Addai is questionable but was a full participant yesterday in practice and he's been known to simply sit out from time to time in practice to simply avoid swelling. The bigger issue is that Brown needs to prove to be a more capable and trusted pass-blocker, as the team really places a priority on that, for good reason.
Frank Gore (San Francisco)
Our new OC is gonna help or hurt me? Will I keep up my 10 targets a game if we move more to the spread style offense?
Jim McCormick (4:03 PM)
It could certainly lower some of the targets - but if it helps the offense in general move better and score more, it can only help Gore overall.
Madvillian (The Windy City)
Why would a league NOT decided to incorporate PPR? Makes it so much more interesting and fair? Does the rest of the world not agree or what?!?!?
Jim McCormick (4:06 PM)
Well, there are pros and cons. I generally play in a .5 PPR more so than a full PPR, for example. The take this one longstanding league had was that a full point can often been an over-reward if we are giving 6 for a TD and whatever for yardage etc. Take for example a hypothetical drive in which Matt Forte catches 6 dump off passes that are essentially runs - he gains 39 yards on these plays and yet is rewarded with the value of a touchdown for the receptions and whatever the yards equal to. I have played, do play and enjoy full PPR leagues and variations of them - but there hasn't been, and likely never will be, a universal or singular form of this hobby.
any reason to keep M. or R. Bush on your roster?
Jim McCormick (4:07 PM)
Tough season for the Bush boys, but I myself am holding onto Reggie in a 12-team league where the wire is fairly lean. With Michael, if a more compelling option is out there then I'd go for it, but I'd also have some patience if possible if you'd be cutting him just to move on, it's not as if DMC has been immune to injury in his career so far.
Thanks for staying late. LAST question! Stupid question: should i TRY to buy low on Colston, maybe Clayton, Nicks or Bowe for Colston?
Jim McCormick (4:08 PM)
I would, his stock is low and would inflate after just a few big outings. I'd certainly suggest offering Bowe or Clayton right away and see if you can retain Nicks in the deal.
Jim McCormick (4:10 PM)
Thanks for all the questions, really impressive turnout. Hit me up @JMcCormickESPN if you have more questions and what not. Check out D Up! tomorrow for all you IDP managers out there. Good luck this week!
