More Jesse Rogers: Blackhawks blog
Jesse Rogers (1:03 PM)
Hello all. Welcome to our weekly Blackhawks chat. Glad you're here. Hawks and Avs finishing up morning practice...CRawford is in net. Bolland missed last game but is playing. Kane and Pisani skated together but will not play. Hossa did not skate..Need a big rebound game on defense tonight. Colorado is fast...fire away
Who is in charge of ice time for d-men? Why is it that Keith and Seabrook both logged 25+ minutes Monday even though both were making several miscues (Seabs especially)? I would think playing Campbell and Hjalmarsson would have been a wiser move.
Jesse Rogers (1:05 PM)
I wrote about that in my blog yesterday...unltimately its Q in charge of ice time. He prob doesnt trust the matchups with hammer and soup but could they have done worse? Dont think so. Listening to Q and even Keith today, they kind of think it was a one game fluke in a stretch of good performances on D. They might be right but looking at the season as a whole, minus 11 speaks volumes...seabrook was more critical of himself this morn
If you had to choose, who would you say is more upset after a loss like Monday's: Toews or Coach Q?
Jesse Rogers (1:06 PM)
Prob Q because his expertise is with the defensemen and they let the team down..Toews sounds mad at some individuals but would never name names...
Do players ever apologize to the team if they specifically had a crappy night that contributed to a loss? I'm thinking about Seabrook here and how he could be faulted for at least 3 of the goals Monday. Or are they just expected to be professionals and just put the work in and avoid having a repeat performance the next game?
Jesse Rogers (1:07 PM)
No of course, they aplogize to each other, etc. they said it in denver after the game, how they felt bad for the goalies...they do it...I dont think they make a huge deal but a "hey sorry man" happens all the time...like I just wrote, Seabrook took the brunt this morn
KT (Oak Park)
Who would we get rid off to make it such that Morin can stay up here full time? Moreover, who would the healthy scratch be when we get all our forwards back if we keep Morin in? I like the kid and what he brings to the table.
Jesse Rogers (1:08 PM)
Bowman is already on the record when all or close to all are healthy, Morin is going down to rockford and possibly to wolrd juniors but I think hes back up here in New Year..plus you know there will be new injuries..always are so I think he will be here more than not..
KT (Oak Park)
What are you anticipating for Chelios Night: more cheers or more boos?
Jesse Rogers (1:09 PM)
Prob boos but I think thats silly.
Jim Neveau (Manteno, IL)
Have heard a lot of Hawks fans saying they should go after Evgeni Nabakov. Care to dispel that silly notion right now?
Jesse Rogers (1:09 PM)
Any chance Q takes your suggestion and plugs Hammer and Soupy in the first d-pair?
Jesse Rogers (1:10 PM)
Not first necessarily but more ice time? I would not say no but hearing him today, Monday was more of a fluke so I dont think he changes much right now...might take another bad one or two..
Mike Carter (San Diego)
What do you think is most concerning about where the Hawks are this year compared to last year's team?
Jesse Rogers (1:12 PM)
I dont think there is any doubt its those d-men. Someone (that would be me!) needs to do the research. Whats the worst plus/minus for a player the yr after winning the norris. Prob worse than minus 11 but you get my drift...add seabs up and down and hammer awful start, there is the difference BUT anyone that folllows my stuff knows I was warning people coming off the playoffs last yr. the defense started to sag there..its why I gave so much credit to niemi...no one was buying it. It WAS NOT THAT GREAT OF A D in the playoffs. so it started there
I know you're tired of this question and touched on it in your blog, but what is going on with Keith and Seabrook? They look lost. If the names on the backs of their sweaters were different, they would be sent to Rockford.
Jesse Rogers (1:14 PM)
The only answer I can give is fatigue. I dont thikn complacency is it. One is in a contract yr and the other has tons of character...the human body and mind can only take so much..maybe they find a second wind in crunch time..we will see
you mentioned on Waddle and Silvy yesterday that we need to play more Campbell. I disagree, he shies away confrontations along boards. he is notorious for peeling off and using his stick in stead of his body. His active stick can only get him so far in close confrontations. Maybe it was the push he took from Ovie last year. we need aggressive D-men so we don't get worked from behind the net like monday night. your thoughts?
Jesse Rogers (1:16 PM)
I dont disagree with your overall assesment, however, desperate times call for desperate measures. They cant do much worse. He's +10..lets take that out for a spin...you can be a good d-man without being physical...and all im saying is give him and hammer a few more minutes per game. lets see what happens. for 7 mil, i think its fair to try...
Fitz (My Cube)
Jess, I have read that Q and Bowman aren't seeing eye to eye...is there anything to this? As a sox fan it makes me cringe....
Jesse Rogers (1:19 PM)
Not seeing eye to eye sounds nefarious...I dont think there is any doubt Q wants the best players he can get..leddy, morin, maybe even beach...but they cant afford all plus its bowman's job to look at big picture..hes talked of a system in place of bringing along prospects..I cant argue with it too much..his model was hammer...which is why I have been writing about the second half..closer to all-star break is when some guys come up for good, prob leddy...Im guessing Q might want them all here now. Thats how coaches are. I would doubt its dissension but your normal stuff
Steve (St. Louis)
Toews was talking about people being lazy last game and having that infect others. I'm sure he had some people specifically in mind. Did he give you any indication who he thought fit that profile?
Jesse Rogers (1:20 PM)
No, but it looked to me the seabs and keith were just not reacting well..not sure if that's what he meant..its moments of laziness, dont think he meant for 60 minutes...but you know its hard to know if he had people in mind or general stuff
Imre (Missoula, MT)
What's the deal with Hossa? Thought he'd be on ice today as well? Any idea on when we can expect him back? Any concerns on his recovery or lingering issues?
Jesse Rogers (1:21 PM)
He skated the last two days which means there may have been a small set back...always a chance at lingering issue so cant know for sure until I see him but they still say pretty soon...not entirely sure
hey jesse! when is kane and hossa expected to be back? will we see either of them tonight?
Jesse Rogers (1:22 PM)
Neither tonight...kane could play friday..will test the ankle at practice again tomorrow and again on friday morning then make a decision..I say for sure sunday
What is the real reason Hendry is getting much PT. Cullimore and Boynton look slow and are showing their age. Hendry, although sometimes makes poor decisions with the puck, has the speed and brings a physical aspect lacking on the backend.
Jesse Rogers (1:23 PM)
No real reason..Im telling you they like cullimore for sure..Not sure why Boynton hasnt sat once..thought he might play D against Colorado since they are fast team and hendry has wheels..hes playing forward again tonight
The hawks have given up to many goals after just failing to get the puck out of the zone. How can they fix that?
Jesse Rogers (1:24 PM)
Bear down..focus...the usual stuff...they have been awful when the puck goes behind their net..I think they had to do so little of it last yr that its almost new to them..cover the slot for god sakes
Jesse, its not a secret that getting rid of Byfuglien is absolutely killing us. Not to mention hes now in the discussion for the Norris Trophy. Who can we get to be that big body/scorer/presence/bruiser/defensiveforward/etc big buff was...cuz its clearly no one on the team right now.
Jesse Rogers (1:25 PM)
They dont grow on trees..some hope it will be Beach..
David (Highland Park)
Is Crawford entrenched as the #1 from here on out?
Jesse Rogers (1:26 PM)
I think for all intent and purposes, yes. They may not say it but he will keep playing as long as he gives them a better chance to win, which he is. No back to backs this month so he could really get most of the time...
Alex (Elk Grove)
Let's say you're right that the D is sagging (and it appears that you are.) There is a lot of money and years tied up in those guys. How can it be fixed?
Jesse Rogers (1:28 PM)
Reduce some of the minutes on seabs and keith and play soup and hammer more...thats my suggestion. not much more you can do but write off this yr as payback for last. Tell keith to go to hawaii for about 3 months and start over...but until youve exhausted everything, there is hope...maybe leddy soon, maybe a big trade
Morin has 10 times the talent of Kopecky yet we are going to send Morin down in favor of Kopecky on that second line when everyone is healthy? What am I missing Jesse?
Jesse Rogers (1:29 PM)
Missing how they want to handle their prospects..again, it wont be for long in my opinion..this all changes come late jan and into feb but I understand your frustration...plus morin will have a dip...its a process
Steve (St. Louis)
Has Keith gone to see the team shrink lately, and has he convinced any others to join him?
Jesse Rogers (1:30 PM)
I say this only half toungue in cheek but I think the Doctor's office is full.I would imagine Turco's getting extra sessions..but yes, he's being used Im sure
Seabs (The Doghouse)
Can you tell if Scotty Bowman is still a major part of the decision makers? He seems to have disappeared. Wasn't even at the banner ceremony. Just trying to let Stan stand on his own or something bigger?
Jesse Rogers (1:31 PM)
I asked him about the banner thing and basically you're right about standing on his own..he told me "its not my team". I do believe hes still helping behind the scenes. I have seen him this yr but not much lately...
What moves would you make personnel wise right now to help the Hawks play to their potential?
Jesse Rogers (1:32 PM)
Lined it out in a recent blog do check that out but forst and foremost Crawford plays like a No.1..second, like I said give hammer and soup more time...3rd) bring leddy up...
Was wondering what your thoughts are of Kopecky on the PP? Personally I think it's square peg, round hole.
Jesse Rogers (1:34 PM)
Disagree..serves a role in fornt of the net. He's no Buff but hes prob the best on the team though when toews wants to go there he can be good of course..he keeps plays alive. He just doesnt have the hands to finish or give the cute/perfect pass (minus that one behind the back) I dont have a problem with him in front of the net...
Caleb (Lafayette, IN)
Throughout the season we have lost several games in the last 5 minutes, what do you think is the biggest reason for this?
Jesse Rogers (1:35 PM)
Goaltending...its mostly happened with Turco either there save the other night...its happened less recently because Crawford is playing more..dont think Turco has been very clutch
When is Coach Q going to move Soupy up to the first PP unit? The Hawks signed him because of his ability to move the puck up and having him on the second unit while Keith isn't playing well seems silly to me. Campbell must be doing something right seeing as how his +/- is better than the others.
Jesse Rogers (1:36 PM)
That first unit is pretty good...sharp is great on the point and he just likes seabrook there right now...if it slumps he will change..Soup needs to help that second unit..i dont have a prob with the way it is. Its top 5
The Hawks have played a few more games than most other teams in the NHL. Will playing a heavy load of games earlier in the season be a help or a hindrance for this team when the season wraps up?
Jesse Rogers (1:38 PM)
Absolute hindrance. They got screwed. No cup wining team should have this schedule. And its not a big help later. They get a week off right before the all-star break...then everyone is off so they odnt really get to take advantage. Stupid
Jesse - How much of this inconsistency can we just chalk up to a combination of the long year last year and lack of team chemistry this year? I just have this strange feeling we come back really strong next year. We defintely have the talent. Thoughts?
Jesse Rogers (1:39 PM)
Based what Ive been saying, yes, I would agree...add that bad schedule and it all adds up but yr not done yet!
Any Rockford call-ups for tonight? Pisani has missed nearly three weeks with an injury that listed him as "day-to-day". Is he having health issues related to his medical past, or was he just hurt worse than they thought?
Jesse Rogers (1:41 PM)
Slower recovery..not because of past....morin is back..hendry and scott play forward...bolland playing
I'd hate to lose a Morin or a Beach in a trade but this team is built to win now so if you have to part with a prospect, so be it. Have you heard any names whispered in regards to a D-man the Hawks could be looking into acquiring?
Jesse Rogers (1:43 PM)
Not really because money is an issue...they cant bring in a decent top 4 without ridding themselves. They will have to get creative..trade deadline a ways away...and most of the west is till in it...so give it a month and I will start to hear things
Hi Jesse! One thing I think is different from last year is this team is lacking its own identity. They tend to play to the level of their competition, for example, in San Jose, they came out hitting and fast because that's the pace SJ set. In Colorado, not really physical more speed and transitional. If this team played "their" game from the first puck drop I think overall they'd be better off, thoughts?
Jesse Rogers (1:46 PM)
Yes and No. Agree with the identity part. They still want to be a skating/transition team but it comes back to those D-men...Ive written it before..this team is set up based on those four d-men...3 are having bad yrs for the most part (though hammer is better lately) and their goaltender, which they just had to have, has underwhelmed, and what happened to that puck handling. I predicted 10 assists...Face it, Turco has been a dissapointment, I dont care what he makes
Brad (My Cube)
Will Beach ever make the move to the League?? These other guys that come up do nothing and Beach is a monster...what the heck?
Jesse Rogers (1:48 PM)
I believe Bowman when he says hes close...they were about to bring him up when someone (cant remember who) was questinable and then that player played...then I think beach had a bad game down there and they dont want to reward like that..so timing has been off..but Im with you, just get him here and lets see...enough with the klinks and Bropheys...
Do you have any thoughts or insight on mixing up the d pairings, not counting the third pairing obviously? I just think keith and seabrook have wildy underperformed this year so why not give keith a shot at playing with nik and seabrook with campbell and see how it goes. Also, I know they want nick leddy to get more playing time but its more ice time in rockford really better than 10 minutes a game on the third pairing?
Jesse Rogers (1:50 PM)
They tried splitting them up...its a very short term fix...I suppose you could go the route of 7 with 51 and 4 with 2 or whatever...worth a shot..I think the answer is to even it out with the pairs as is...again, leddy will be here sometime in the new year...
If Q made Hammer and Soupy the top d for a couple games...any chance that wakes up keith and seabs? Are Keith and Seabs pressing too much right now? Kind of forcing themselves into mistakes by thinking too much and not letting the game come to them?
Jesse Rogers (1:51 PM)
Maybe...but forget about labels like top pair or second pair just even out the playing time some..see what hammer can do against a top center, etc.
David C (Streeterville Area-Chicago)
While the Hawks were in San Jose last weekend, I saw Kane out drinking on Saturday night, followed by seeing him at a bar Sunday during the day. I'm glad he is out at bars "rehabbing" his injury in the worst of snow-storms, while the rest of the team is out in San Jose. Do his party habits worry you as much as me?
Jesse Rogers (1:53 PM)
He was also at the Bulls game. You think Hossa just sits at home? Hes going to be back sooner than the team even announced so i dont have a problem with his rehab...yes, he likes to have a good time..he did last yr and produced 88 pts...as long as he takes hockey seriously, I dont have a problem with whatever he does and as long as hes safe and doesnt get in trouble, etc. He said this morn he was so bored wihtout his teammates, he flew in a buddy from Buffalo. Must be a hell of a fun friend
I heard Q talk about "important shifts" not too long ago. How and when can the Hawks shore those up? I'm tired of goals in the first / last minute of a period. I'm also tired of getting nervous each time the Hawks score because I know the other shoe is about to drop.
Jesse Rogers (1:54 PM)
I dont have a great answer for you. Just have to bear down..maybe play a little more conservative...maybe Q can put "smarter" lines out there at those times...those seem like easy things to try...
Tom (Next to Brad(My Cube))
Whats the biggest difference between covering the Hawks with Stan as GM, then Dale Tallon. Its seems like Stan is more smoke and mirrors and Dale was a straight shooter.
Jesse Rogers (1:56 PM)
I guess thats not a bad description..Best way to say it, is Dale was old school and Stan is new (as in McDonough's school!)But I think Stan is pretty straight with the media...none can be totally honest..hes a little less available than dale
Jesse, any thoughts on how to improve this power play? It seems terribly inconsistent, sure this may partly be due to the changing units with injuries, but in recent games we seem to be forced to dump in the puck and often lacking any ability to keep the puck in and set up in the offensive zone for any length of time to find quality chances. How do we at least get chances more consistently.
Jesse Rogers (1:57 PM)
Hard to complain about it...Its been top 5 most of the season..even with major injuries...I mean without kaneor hossa they had 4 against calgary ..2 more the other night...2nd unit is blah but first unit is dynamic...I've loved sharp on the point...
Jack (Oak Brook)
How much more fun was the locker room last year?
Jesse Rogers (1:58 PM)
Definitely fun. And more so than this yr. Not just cause of the record. Buff and Burish=enough said.
Why does teh hawks have 2 defensemen playing forward in Hendry and Scott? When Boynton should be sitting
Jesse Rogers (2:00 PM)
First of all scott is simply not a d-man anymore..I like him in his role now..he's been fine other than a once in a while gaffe...good down low in opposing zone and beating up everyone..boynton instead of hendry Im not sure..just not..they wanted to get hendry some time and hes been ok at forward with scott so i dont have a big issue..
People talk about how we're missing big buff and point to the fact he's contending for the norris as a reason; but had he stayed in Chicago he would have been playing forward not D. Kind of like comparing apples to oranges right?
Jesse Rogers (2:01 PM)
Not necessarily. We dont know what the Hawks would have done with him. Q liked him in his stint there last yr. Also, maybe he gets moved there when Soup goes down or when they see hammer and keith struggle..so we just dont know...certianly would not be getting the PT he is getting in atlanta
The D has had its moments of mental lapses on D, true. It would be nice to see Keith or Hammer be more aggresive in the O zone with one-timers. They seem hesitant at times and more blasts=more rebounds.
Jesse Rogers (2:02 PM)
Agree with the shooting aspect...dont know why guys pass up open lanes...they are hard to come by...might ask Q which D-men he thinks need to shoot more
Jesse - Do you share the love I have for Jack Skille? I don't exactly know why, but part of me thinks he would be a great fit on that first line with Toews and Kane when he gets back, thoughts?
Jesse Rogers (2:05 PM)
I am liking his game but only if he plays the same way whether he is first or fourth line...with energy and speed...forget the fancy stuff...still like him better in bottom 6 as long as he accepts it..stalberg a better fit with kane and toews between the two though skille prob has been playing better than stalberg right now
Which of the bench players have not lived up to expectations the team had for them this year?
Jesse Rogers (2:06 PM)
Not sure what you mean by "bench" players but Brouwer is prob need the top along with Bolland..though bolland still good on D and you need that
Is it me or does Keith seem more hesitant to shoot the puck especially on the PP. They'll get a tick tac toe going and he always stops the momentum by looking for the perfect shot, I say one time it to the net and let the forwards fight for the rebounds.
Jesse Rogers (2:06 PM)
As I posed before, i would agree with that overall assesment...i know they want to be careful to avoid the blcok and chance the other way but yes, he needs to fire away
What are the chances of Seabrook getting a new contract this coming offseason by the Blackhawks? What would be the salary range for him with the possible 2M increase in the salary cap next season?
Jesse Rogers (2:07 PM)
Might happen before the off-seaosn...raneg is 4.5-5.5
With all of line changes Quenneville continues to make, and given all of the line up changes, how can this squad really ever be effective at tape to tape passing necessary to compete with other competitors?
Jesse Rogers (2:08 PM)
He hasnt changed in a while plus they keep getting injuries...and i dont think he changes that much more than other coaches..Ive heard this complaint about a lot of hawks coaches before Q and on other teams as well...anyway, its been pretty steady lately.
Ben (Naperville via Argentina)
While Buff was great, I've been sticking by my claim that our biggest loss from last year was Burish. Maybe it's my Badger bias, but this team just looks like it lacks personality. Burish, needless to say, has more than enough to spare, and was that type of lockerroom, vocal guy that kept the team energized. Any chance the Hawks make a minor move to bring in a good character/energy guy, albeit slightly less talented like Burish?
Jesse Rogers (2:11 PM)
They miss SOME of burish but hard to say they miss him the most...I mean Ladd and Buff are pretty darn good..anyway, they do miss some edge...so i wouldnt put it past them..exelby in the minors has some of that...dont think they like Wiz even if he wasnt making so much...but maybe that type of player...I dont disagree they miss some that nastiness...
Rachel (Oak Brook)
Has Brouwer gotten out of the slump he had to start the year or is it too soon to get excited?
Jesse Rogers (2:13 PM)
You cant just look at a boxscore and say that. He held his stick up in the air for one goal the other night and the other was just ok as well...wehn he is skating and hitting and moving with and without hte puck consistently, then I will say hes ready to rock and roll...HOWEVER, getting some points can be a confidence boost that leads to better play so not taking anything away from other night but dont get too excited cause a guy gets a few points...I mean is Bolland back because he had a 5 on 3 tap in goal and an empty netter?
Jesse Rogers (2:13 PM)
Sorry, bout my typing. Just moving fast. So many questions. Will take a few more
How do these guys travel on the road? How bad is that west coast swing?
Jesse Rogers (2:16 PM)
Those are rough..time zone differences screw up sleeping. thats the biggest thing...sometimes they fly right after a game..sometimes they stay over and then fly..there is no perfect scenario...you just have to make the best of it..last week, they flew to SJ a day early to get adjusted..cant always do that..could do it next trip out there but that would mean spending new years eve there instead of here...anyway, flying charter helps for sure..wish I could. :)
Mike Kamrad (Mesa, AZ)
John Scott, Helping or hurting our team ?
Jesse Rogers (2:16 PM)
I like him in his role now. I say helping. Marginally..and if hes hurting, its also marginally..
JR, teams are starting to catch up in games played, but i think it wont be until almost the all start break before everyone catches up. Even though we have played more games than pretty much every team, we are still points behind many teams. What are our chances of making the playoffs?
Jesse Rogers (2:18 PM)
The fact that we have to have this discussion is sad but its still decent..they need that run..looked like they were on one and it just got derailed..one loss does it..cup hangovers last a while...fresh start after all-star break? that would be feb. I still say they make it..and now that craw is taking over as long as he continues to play like he has that will help...no guaratee there though
Erik (San Francisco)
Jesse, do you get tired of answering the same questions about the D-pair? Since I assume so, I'll go another direction. You were fond of Buff and Burish from last year....who on the team do you go to now for a juicy quote...other than Sharpie?BTW...thanks for responding to my twitter post the other night
Jesse Rogers (2:19 PM)
I know Bowman just recently said in your blog that he wants to add centers, but at what point do you start to shop Bolland? He is getting 3.375m a year, and isnt producing. He is a nice player, who is great in the clutch, but if you look at a guy with a comparable cap hit like Mike Fisher of Ottawa, it doesnt add up.
Jesse Rogers (2:21 PM)
Dont think they will..what he did in the playoffs to sedins, thornton, richards, etc. might be worth his salary...and if hes healthy they still the=ink that offense might come around...you never say never..hes not untouchable but I dont see it midseason...maybe an offseason thing where you are changing your core, etc. and you have a cheaper third line guy ready...in fact, Ive told you guys before..look for Marcu Kruger...swede to be 3rd line next yr...if bolland cant handle 2nd line maybe they do move him
Are we lacking overall team defense or are our defense men just not cutting it? (Keith) going from Norris winner to -11 is a huge swing in stability, what are your thoughts?
Jesse Rogers (2:22 PM)
Like Ive been writing in my blog and here...its those d-men..no doubt. keith, seabs, hammer (until recently) not earning their keep!
Hey Jesse, other than Seabs who comes off the books at the end of the year? Any relief with the cap situation?
Jesse Rogers (2:23 PM)
Smaller ones..kopy, brouwer, turco, crawford (but hes due a raise) guys like that...
Joe (Joliet, IL)
Do you think some of the guys on the team have had as hard of a time getting over the guys that left like you and a lot of other Hawk fans have? Seriously, when are we all going to turn the page? This team is struggling because they miss Adam Burish? Give me a break.
Jesse Rogers (2:25 PM)
I think socially, they miss those guys but on the ice they are over it for sure...its not JUST burish, its the attitude he brought...you need a mixture..boy did they have that mixture last yr...just not as much now...can never know for sure how much it plays a part...but the better the mix the better the chance of winning, not to say you cant with this group
Victor A (Temecula, EEUU)
Niemi, Niemi where art thou, Don't you think the Hawks feel silly for not making it work in somehow signing such an important part of the team?
Jesse Rogers (2:28 PM)
My persoanl feeling? I feel silly for them...I have not once said I told you so but Niemi is coming around and I just dont get how the public was so excited about turco..always excited about something we dont have...one guy did what everyone wanted..the other guy is 35 and NEVER did what the other guy just did..I will never get that...anyway, dont get me started..there is no doubt in my mind niemi would be better here..comfort factor, etc. but listen they liked crawford..they are pushing him internally anyway so maybe best for everyone..and I like crawford too..wasnt sure of mental makeup but making a believer out of me...
Jesse Rogers (2:29 PM)
And dont tell me about the D last yr. Plenty of teams have good D's but dont win the Cup AND THEY WERENT THAT GREAT IN THE PLAYOFFS. NIEMI WAS. ok, im done
How many goals realistically do you think Sharp ends up with this year?
Jesse Rogers (2:29 PM)
Although he's a great "energy" guy, don't you think Skille has been kind of a bust by being the the #7 overall pick in the first round?
Jesse Rogers (2:30 PM)
If you look at it that way, yes. You would assume top 10 picks at forward would be top 6 players.so dont disagree but now making 500k, i have no pron with his game in the bottom 6
This kind of incorporates a ton of other questions that you've answered, but What do you think are the top three regrets from this offseason?
Jesse Rogers (2:32 PM)
Im sure they do not regret hammer over niemi...hammer is coming around but he is overpaid..not much to regret. theire hands were tied..seems like they got decent value for steeg and buff...losing niemi for nothing was my one big gripe..how can they not regret that? missed out on cashing in on him at least via trade
Jack (Oak Brook)
Do you think that when the playoffs hit the veteran leadership of the Hawks will lead them in a deep run?I'd also like to give a shout out to Rachel in Oak Brook
Jesse Rogers (2:33 PM)
Its possible. I love toews like the next guy. Same with sharp..but if that D doesnt improve, leadership wont matter
Hey Jesse, big fan of yours...although don't you think you're being a little harsh on Turco lately? I know the guy is struggling but c'mon, you've all but written him off as a mistake!
Jesse Rogers (2:35 PM)
Acutally, maybe it sounds like Ive been harsh on him here but in my blog not so bad...But I do think it was a mistake..thought so at the time..Crawford is better right now. No one wil argue that..If he had last year's reg season defense, Turco would be having a much better yr so as I wrote I kind of feel sorry for him...listen, he's a flopping golaie with little technique whi has lost a step and in some games has been deluged with great scoring chances...tough spot for him
Eric T. (Oak Lawn)
Do you think the way seabrook is playing is going to affect the hawks descion on whether to bring him back or not?
Jesse Rogers (2:36 PM)
Everything has an affect. Its more about the terms rather than not bringing hime back. But once can lead to the other..if his agent is poiting to the olympics and staley cup and the hawks are pointiung at monday night, well, Houston, we have a problem
Jesse Rogers (2:37 PM)
Man, my typing skucks today...(that one was on purpose)
