thanks for dropping by,.. am in the media workroom in Indy at the combine
Patrick (Arlington, VA)
What are your thoughts on the shake up at VT?
bruce feldman (2:06 PM)
Am curious to see how it plays out. They have a good staff, but sometimes things need to be shaken up. Look at Texas and FSU in the late Bobby years. New blood/ideas often is a good thing.
With Tigers recent sucess in the NFL draft do you see more big time recruits coming here?
bruce feldman (2:07 PM)
Definitely... Pinkel has done a nice job elevating things.
Penn or fitch?
bruce feldman (2:07 PM)
I'll go with BJ Penn.
Devon kennard will he be better this year?
bruce feldman (2:08 PM)
He should be an added year in Monte Kiffin's system which had a lot of different elements than Carroll's previous scheme. He's a very gifted athlete.
Pat (Germantown, MD)
Bruce, how do the Canes do this year and what can we look forward to in 2012 (with Al Golden)? Thanks for answering my question.
bruce feldman (2:10 PM)
I think they're probably an 8-4 team unless they get much better at QB and can really scale back on the TOs. The O-line should be very good and the backs are explosive. The front seven also should be good. Corners are a big concern, but the big thing is, can Stephen Morris take a big step forward and/or can Jacory Harris regain his confidence and his focus?
evan steele (howland)
will browns make playoffs this year?
bruce feldman (2:11 PM)
I doubt it, but I think their QB is going to be pretty good and keep getting better.
Realistic expectations for FSU this season, contender or also ran?
bruce feldman (2:12 PM)
Legit contender. Can be a top five team if the middle of the O-line jells and EJ Manuel can become consistent.
Growing up in Ohio, I loved watching Art Schlichter play at OSU. What do you think of his recent troubles? He is a lost cause in my mind.
bruce feldman (2:13 PM)
Funny, you say that. He was one of the first CF players I grew up watching. I really liked those OSU teams. It is a mess what has transpired and its sad how many ppl close to him he's let down while battling these issues.
Frank (Arlington, VA)
What are your expectations for the Wolverines next year?
bruce feldman (2:14 PM)
Defense will be quite a bit better because there'll be more experience in the secondary and Greg Mattison is a very good coach. This should be an eight or nine win team with 20 starters back.
Does Notre Dame ever go back to the top of college football or is what they are forever is a ok program who gets a lot of good recruits but is never going to be a powerhouse again?
bruce feldman (2:16 PM)
I think Brian Kelly will get them back to being a top 15 team. Am not sure if he'll ever win a BCS title there but he is the right guy for that job.
Ricky Stanzi (Iowa City, Ia)
How do you see my successor Vandenberg doing this season?
bruce feldman (2:17 PM)
Hey... I was going to ask you that when it's your turn in this media room later today. His arm is good and he was pretty sharp in his limited action.
Trey (Long Beach)
What is your reaction to the Lane Kiffin/Tennessee NCAA investigation? Will this severely impact USC in any way?
bruce feldman (2:18 PM)
Severely impact USC? No, I don't think it will. I have a lot more on Kiffin and his standing there right now in the blog today.http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/blog?name=feldman_bruce&id=6158017
What are the chances mu can keep the Randy Moss clone in state?
bruce feldman (2:19 PM)
I don't know. My GUESS is I'd bet the field. Everyone is going to want him.
Why no George Uko in your list of top redshirt freshman?
bruce feldman (2:20 PM)
Can only keep that list to 10 guys and I haven't heard people expecting him to be a starter there this year.
How long until USC feels the pinch of their sanctions and how long do you think they'll be down? Bama was down for a good 7 years...
bruce feldman (2:22 PM)
My hunch is IF Barkley returns in 2012 with those receivers and considering they aren't going to lose a ton of guys in the senior class, they'll have a top 5-top 10 type of team, but the year after that they'll be thinned out and may be looking at a 7-5 caliber roster because of some of the lines and LB will be thinned out and you'd be breaking in a new QB.
Does UNM have a chance to win mpore than one game over the next two years. Are they on there way to at least starting to get better we have looked like the Duke football team the last few years.
bruce feldman (2:23 PM)
No, I doubt UNM can win more than 2-3 this year. I'll be surprised if Mike Locksley is the coach by next winter there.
Let me guess, you rag on USC and Kiffin in your article, even though teams like Florida and Texas are even more crooked. Most of the stuff Kiffin is getting blamed for was in place before he even started.
bruce feldman (2:23 PM)
Just read that article and then judge it.
How do you think Penn State will do next year? Chance to win the Big Ten?
bruce feldman (2:24 PM)
Outside shot. I think the D will be better because unlike last year they don't have as much to replace and QB will be a lot better.
Poisoning the oaks at Tommer's Corner? What has the college football world come to? I hope the trees can be saved, but I read their survival is not looking good.
bruce feldman (2:25 PM)
One of the more bizarre stories in years. Sad all the way around.
I'm thinking Alabama's defense will be simply impenetrable this year. Only loss was Dareus and they got great Juco transfers to fill in for him. Thoughts?
bruce feldman (2:26 PM)
Yeah, that's why they're probably preseason top 4. Big question though is how good will they be at QB with McCarron/Sims???
Your top 5 way too early heisman candidates for next season?
bruce feldman (2:27 PM)
#1 Andrew Luck and then the next names that come to mind: Landry Jones, the OK State guys, Trent richardson, Case Keenum, Knile Davis, Kellen Moore, Denard Robinson.
Everyone seems to be on the Sundevils bandwagon, are you buying or selling the ASU stock for next season?
bruce feldman (2:28 PM)
I'm not buying like that much... I've heard 11 wins. I'm not THAT optimistic. But if Osweiler can be consistent as a thrower, they could be a top 15 team. Lots of studs on D.
bruce feldman (2:34 PM)
Sorry, I actually tried to ask Stanzi about the new QB, but he was on a roll talking about meeting with teams last night, said it was like the speed dating scene in 40-year-old Virgin.
Coach who is most on the hot seat in 2011?
bruce feldman (2:35 PM)
Neuheisel, Paul Wulff, Richt, Dabo Swinney, Dennis Erickson.
bruce feldman (2:35 PM)
thanks for all of the questions. If I didn't get to yours send it to me via Twitter at BFeldmanESPN.
