Ohm (1:59 PM)
Hey guys, thanks for joining the chat. Just wanted to give my favorite childhood wrestler, Randy Macho Man Savage, a final shout out. RIP Macho Man. Sad news about his passing. Will never forget his matches against Ricky the Dragon Steamboat, Hulkster, Jake the Snake, etc. Ooooooh yeah!
Hi Ohm, thanks for the fantasy help last week and I'll take you up on that offer during the season. I was wondering which of these NY Jets do you think will be back next season? Cromartie, Holmes, Edwards, B Smith, S Ellis and kicker Weatherford. Thanks.
Ohm (2:01 PM)
Hey Rachel... well, this question would be best suited for our Jets beat writer Rich Cimini but I'll take a crack... I think Holmes and B. Smith will return. I think Cromartie is a definite possibility. As for Ellis and punter Weatherford, no idea. And hit me up for fantasy advice anytime when football gets started.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
What Undrafted Free Agents will the New York Giants sign once the Lockout has been Lifted?
Ohm (2:02 PM)
Chris, this is hard to say because we don't know for sure. Once free agency is allowed, I am sure there will be a frenzy. We can surely guess some names but it's hard to know. I can see the Giants going for perhaps BC linebacker Herzlich... I like the speedy corner Josh Gatlin as well.
Robert (New York)
Ohm, Do you think the Giants will resign Barry Cofield, once the lockout ends, even though we have drafted both Joseph and Austin in the 2nd rounds of the past two drafts?
Ohm (2:05 PM)
Robert, I'd be surprised if Cofield is a free agent and the Giants re-sign him to a big deal. With so many DTs already in Canty, Bernard, Linval and Austin now, Cofield is looking for big money and the Giants have set themselves up where they don't need to pay a lot there. Now, if he is an RFA, the Giants can bring him back on the cheap. But Barry doesn't want to play for the one-year tender and said he will consider a trade then. And the Giants are a pretty classy organization, they may try to deal Barry and let him get his contract elsewhere while getting something back for him. But we'll see for sure.
Eugene (North Dakota)
Resistance is futile, Ohm. Ha, a physics joke. I suck.
Ohm (2:05 PM)
Eugene, the physics jokes never get tiring. That one is actually funny. LOL.
Ohm (2:06 PM)
Saw Toomer the other day. He was wearing a Michigan hat. I had on a Michigan State pullover. He told me we have to do something about that pullover. Toomer is one Wolverine I like. LOL.
Robert (New York)
Any free agents - either players or positions - that you think we will look at once free agency opens up? I would think LB or OL.
Ohm (2:07 PM)
Rob, I think the Giants will look at a veteran LB... a possible center... another safety with Deon Grant hitting free agency... and maybe a tight end. Boss is a free agent. And I wouldn't rule out a fullback.
Tim (New York)
What are your thoughts on Clint Sintim? Will he finally live up to expectations and be a somewhat impact LB this year?
Ohm (2:09 PM)
Timmy... well, you got to give him more time now because he is coming off a torn ACL. He will return to play this season but often times, it takes a full season back to get back to your old form. So I would temper expectations although Jerry Reese says he needs to step up and prove his worth. But I think he has to recover from the surgery first.
Will Seubert be ready when the season starts? If he isn't ready to start the season, could we see Diehl move inside to Guard and Beatty or Andrews start at LT?
Ohm (2:11 PM)
Hey Vinny. No guarantee Seubert will be ready for the start of the season. He is hard as nails so I would never discount it. But I think to be safe, you should probably count on him returning shortly after that. So, if that is the case, I think you will see Diehl at LG, Beatty or Andrews (if they bring him back) at LT and O'Hara at center. Now if O'Hara for some reason suffers a setback in his return, then maybe Koets will be ready at center after coming off a knee injury. And the longshot is Mitch Petrus, last year's draft pick who they like as well. There's also Kevin Boothe, who the Giants will have to re-sign as well.
Romo (New Haven)
Ohm, What are your thoughts on the knee of Kenny Phillips? Will he be better this year - a year removed - or is this something that will always be a lingering problem?
Ohm (2:12 PM)
Romo, hard to predict but I will say this... I think you want to look for signs of him returning closer to his old form this season. Last year, he made it back and should be commended for that. But I don't think he was close to his old self. This year, we should see signs of him getting closer to old form.
If the lockout ends in enough time for training camp, do you think Amukamara could supplant Terrell Thomas as a starting CB? It would be nice to see Prince make the same transition as Devin McCourty did last year for the Patriots.
Ohm (2:14 PM)
Graham... well, it's going to be a harder than normal transition because rookies haven't had time to learn the system at all in the offseason. So it will be a quick learning curve. I think Terrell Thomas will still be the second corner behind Webster (I will have a blog up on him next week, look for it on the website). But best-case scenario, if Amukamara is as good as advertised, and surpasses Aaron Ross, then maybe he can handle some outside duties and Thomas can move into the slot a bit. Thomas talked about that and said he would love to play in slot more like he did during his first two years. I'll have more in the blog post next week. Thanks.
If an NFL team were to relocate, what city (not in California) do you think would be most deserving and best support a franchise. What team would like to see relocate?
Ohm (2:16 PM)
JJ... why not in California? I want a team in LA... bad! I need my road trips back to LA like I had when I covered the NBA. As for any other city... hmm... I can't even think of one right now. It is so hard to move an NFL team in the first place. You really need a city that has already begun planning for a team and can support a team. That is why I think LA has some momentum but you never know.
Ohm - SF fan here, and I want to know from an actual source if any of the Reyes to the Giants rumors have any substance at all? If the Giants want to be honest with themselves, they'd go after Reyes, Beltran, Wright, a couple of beer vendors, the cotton candy guy, and anybody else they could get. Giants fan, but I'm realistic - they can't keep riding this pitching without any offense! Thanks!!
Ohm (2:17 PM)
Scottie... sorry, but that question is better suited for my man Adam Rubin, the Mets beat writer here. But I understand where you are coming from. I like the Giants, love their pitching. I love Buster Posey. Would love to see more with Nate Schierholtz.
Are the Knicks in the running to make it deep in the playoffs next season?
Ohm (2:19 PM)
Shane, yes... but a couple things. First, there has to be a season because I think the NBA labor battle could be worse than the NFL's. Second, the Knicks need another star. Let's see what they get in free agency or if they are able to work out another deal. A key to the Melo deal for me was that you had to look at it as step two in the rebuilding process. They got Amare and then Melo and now have two stars to recruit another. And I think they will be able to find another star to come because as you see in the East, you will need three stars to battle Miami.
aronmantoo (port jeff ny)
Ohm is there going to be an interrupted nfl season?
Ohm (2:20 PM)
Aronmantoo, maybe I am crazy but I say no. I still believe that this will go to the start of training camp and then they should come to a deal and the season still starts on time. Maybe a shortened training camp or the season gets pushed back but I think there will be a full season. No urgency right now to get anything done.
Jason Bradley (Albuquerque NM)
When will the lockout be over?
Ohm (2:21 PM)
Jason, just answered it but wanted to get your question in. I'm saying August, that's my guess and final answer. LOL.
David (New York)
If Pete from MI didn't show up at one of your chats would you send out a search party for him?
Ohm (2:21 PM)
David, we'll see what happens when Michigan State beats Michigan in football for the gazillionth year in a row. Won't be a good chat that week for him. LOL.
What's up Ohmboy? What do think happens with Kiwanuka? Some are saying he's going to the Pats. But wouldn't all the Giants need to do is give a one year extension to prove he's healthy?
Ohm (2:24 PM)
Ryan, which Egypt are you hitting me up from? Some town called Egypt here in the states or the real Egypt? I love my peeps that hit us up in the chat from around the world, and our peeps domestically as well. I think if he is a restricted free agent -- we have to see what happens with the CBA -- then he is back. If he is unrestricted, I still am leaning toward odds of him returning. But if he gets a big contract from another team, say St. Louis and Spags go hard after him and offer him a bigger deal than the Giants are comfortable paying with him coming off a neck injury, then he could be gone. But I think the Giants will do what they can to bring him back within reason.
Ohm (2:24 PM)
Ryan, one more thing. Perry Fewell loves Kiwi. Loves his versatility. That is why I think he comes back. But Kiwi wants to be a starter and could bolt if he is a UFA.
Who's this Graziano cat saying Romo is better than Eli? Is he nuts!! We want Mosely back
Ohm (2:26 PM)
Joe... LOL. Graziano is a good dude, terrific reporter and will be good for the NFC East. I love Mosely and miss my man but the new Beast master is here. As for Romo being better than Eli... I like Romo's talents and skill-set better but he hasn't proven to win in the big game yet like Eli. Of course, Eli had 25 INTs last year and that wasn't pretty at all. Arguments can be made on both sides. I love Romo but would like to see him win a big playoff game and get the Cowboys deep.
Ohm- What are your thoughts on the lack of particiaption in Eli's "Hoboken Camp?" I'm afraid hes not as well respected as we all think.
Ohm (2:28 PM)
Mike, I don't think this has anything to do with how respected Eli is or his leadership skills. There are numerous Giants who do not live in the area during the offseason. Also, if I were an agent for one of these players, I would want my players sticking in the gym and with their routines and not risking injury on the field. The Giants aren't really organizing mass workouts like some other players on other teams. Eli just wants a few receivers to throw to and yes, all are welcome but the weather has been awful here and I do not blame a receiver for not wanting to run patterns in the rain on a wet turf and risking injury that will not be covered during the lockout by any teams.
What do you think the chances the knicks get CP3 whens he's a free agent?
Ohm (2:29 PM)
Shane, I think the odds are better than most might give them... I think CP3 has seen how Miami operates, he is good friends with Melo and LeBron and knows he will have to join forces with somebody to win.
Chris (SI NY )
Ohm- what did you think of the Mara letter? Seemed like a load of BS to me.
Ohm (2:30 PM)
Chris, well, I have a ton of respect for John Mara. He is a very smart man and I really do think he is an owner who is genuinely interested in the wellfare of the players as well. Of course, he is always going to have the owners side first and at this point, both sides are going to say what is best for them. But if any owner can work to get this resolved, I think it would be Mara.
That will never happen David. My life revolves around Ohm and his chats!
Ohm (2:31 PM)
There you go David... Wolverines and Spartans can sometimes interact. "Sometimes." LOL!
James (Philadelphia, PA)
Some brutal questions here in the GIANTS chat so far. Do you think teams like the NY Giants will have an advantage once the season resumes, knowing that the roster/coaching staff has remained pretty consistent this offseason?
Ohm (2:34 PM)
James... why brutal? Everybody just wants football to resume. That's all. But hey, if you don't want to ask about the Giants, you all can ask me about anything. I did see Thor last week. I can give you my review on that. LOL. By the way, dude looks just like Jeremy Shockey. Seriously. Anyways, yes, the Giants are at an advantage, absolutely. Think about this, what if the league does not start until camp. All rookies will be incredibly behind. Any team that needs to sign a bunch of free agents from other teams will be behind. Any team with a new coaching staff or new coordinators will have to install their system with little time. The Giants? They have their coaching staff intact and numerous vets on the team. They are expected to re-sign many of their core free agents and restricted free agents. The closer this team is to having the same roster as last year, the better. They won 10 games last year and weren't that far away from being a playoff team. They could get off to a quick start again. How they finish though remains to be seen. Their schedule down the stretch is BRUTAL.
How come you don't follow me on twitter? You'd be in exclusive company - I only have 3 followers
Ohm (2:35 PM)
Ryan, sorry but I got so many writers and athletes and others on my timeline that I can hardly keep up. What's your twitter handle? LOL.
Derek (NJ )
Ohm- what should I do tonight being that it might be our last night on earth?
Ohm (2:38 PM)
Derek... LOL!!!!! Why don't you listen to this song: 24 hours to live by Mase including Puffy. That might help!
Ohm (2:38 PM)
Then hit me back on the chat at the end after you listen to it. LOL.
RIP Macho Man Randy Savage!!
Ohm (2:39 PM)
Steiny... I'm telling you and everybody here, Macho Man was my dude. My favorite wrestler of all time. Brings me back to my childhood. I used to watch him every Saturday night on Main Event. Loved that guy. Loved Miss Elizabeth. I'm so sad. I've been watching some of his matches on YouTube since the news. Especially the ones against Jake the Snake when he got DDT'd and still got up and won and when he hit Steamboat with the bell to his throat.
RIP Randy Poffo. What do you think Dodge's status with the team is? He on shaky ground?
Ohm (2:40 PM)
RIP Macho Man! I think Dodge is still the punter. I think he will have to compete for his job against a vet but I think the Giants will give him every opportunity to win his job and keep it.
Ohm, nobody likes me in Italy... what gives?
Ohm (2:41 PM)
Snooks! Where ya been girl?
Hey OHM! Very sad about the Macho Man Randy Savage, perhaps my favorite wrestler as a child. That being said, wouldn't it have been better to have Hogan pass the torch to him in Wrestlemania VI instead of the Ultimate Warrior?
Ohm (2:42 PM)
Jeremy, yeah, I hear you. But Ultimate Warrior was the bomb back then. He was the next big thing. I would have loved to have seen Vince treat Macho Man better. In my mind, he is the greatest Intercontinental champ of all time. And he was a beast as heavyweight champ as well. Loved his trash talking.
Randy Savage Fans (Everywhere)
SNAP INTO A SLIM JIM OHHH YEAH!!! DIG IT!
Ohm (2:42 PM)
Ohm, give us the subway series prediction... I say the Buffalo Mets shock the city and take two out of three
Ohm (2:44 PM)
Oh man, Subway Series is upon us already? Wow. I'm going to say Yanks two out of three with no DWright. But I can totally see them taking two.
The real Egypt
Ohm (2:44 PM)
Man, that is sweet. What's it like over there right now after all the craziness earlier???
Go Spartans! Why don't you take over Moseley's NFC East blog gig? You're the man!
Ohm (2:45 PM)
Plax... the Beast is a monster. They got the right dude to do it. Takes a special person to handle the Beast.
Romo (New Haven)
Any TEs available once the free agent market opens up? I hope we resign Boss, but I'd like to see another blocking TE - not Beckham - so we can run Two TE sets.
Ohm (2:46 PM)
I think the Giants should bring back Bear Pascoe and Boss. We have to see who will be a free agent because there are some who could be RFA or UFA.
Whats the chances the Giants still try and get Nnamdi? And also you think they will sign Burress?
Ohm (2:47 PM)
I think they should look into both. Nnamdi, though, is going to get a huge contract. Hard to see the Giants paying Nnamdi after giving a huge contract to Antrel Rolle last year. As for Plax, Tom Coughlin said yesterday that there hasn't been any discussion yet but I think they will look into it.
Is there anything very useful coming out of Eli's camps? Wouldn't they all be better off with a personal trainer to keep them fit and in shape?
Ohm (2:48 PM)
Jason... possible. But here is what they are getting in these workouts that they can't get elsewhere. Eli is going over plays with them, using terminology and showing them what routes to run, what to do and how to adjust to defenses. For guys like Victor Cruz, he is getting the type of workload with Manning that he wouldn't get in camp with Nicks, Smith, Manningham and Barden ahead of him. He is getting a ton of reps and running a ton of routes with Manning like he's the starter. He can't get that anywhere else.
Ohm, is there a reason why most of our rookies don't see significant playing time year 1? Is it the coaches, do we draft guys who need development time (JPP) or is it just a balanced roster that doesn't afford rookies the opportunity? I look around the league and see other rookies having a lot of impact and we haven't had impact roookies since the SB run.
Ohm (2:50 PM)
Eli, well the Giants have a lot of veterans. Take Linval Joseph and JPP last year. They had guys like Cofield, Canty, Bernard, Kiwanuka, Osi, Tuck ahead of them. Prince now comes in with Webster, Thomas and Ross ahead of him. So there is a lot of talent on the Giants roster. And that is a good thing. Teams that play rookies a lot don't always do well. You don't really want that situation. Trust me.
If Coughlin gets to the postseason, but does not get a win, is he back? I think he's gone if the postseason is missed. Thanks.
Ohm (2:50 PM)
I think if he gets to the playoffs, he's back. If not, hard to imagine the Giants will be cool with that, three years out of the dance.
I'll tweet it to you... I don't want all of these clowns in here following me. Remember, exclusive company
Ohm (2:51 PM)
You got it buddy! LOL.
I'll be watching this season in the Sinai. I'll be back to Germantown next year.
Ohm (2:51 PM)
What do you do over there?
Who do you think the Giants bring in to play linebacker?
Ohm (2:51 PM)
Cody, hard to say right now. We got to see who will be RFA and UFA.
I have no idea. I've been on a mountain top the last couple weeks. I'll let you know when we get a chance to go into town.
Ohm (2:52 PM)
See, that's crazy cool. Good luck man.
Hey ohm so how do you the think the prince is going to do in ny
Ohm (2:53 PM)
G, I think he will need time to learn the system and adjust to the playing level of talent. More so than your usual year for a rookie because there has been no offseason. Give him time. But I'd love to see how fast he adapts and if he can be a third/fourth corner by the end of the season.
Ohm (2:53 PM)
Alright guys, thanks for keeping me company in the chat. Talk to ya'll next week if we make it through Saturday. Rest in peace Macho Man. One final time: Ooooooooh yeeeeeaaaaaah!
