Jurko (1:02 PM)
Good win against the Panthers. Difficult game in Detroit on a Monday night. Calvin Johnson and Suh will have to be accounted for. Let's commence the party.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
What will be the Hardest Team in the AFC that the Chicago Bears will Face this season?
Jurko (1:02 PM)
San Diego Chargers.
Rick L (Libertyville)
I look at the individual match ups in this game and the only one that I can see that is a clear victory is Peppers vs Backus. How do the Bears beat a more talented team?
Jurko (1:03 PM)
Have to capitalize on the other team's mistakes and not make mistakes. There's not one team that's unbeatable.
A lot has been made of how intimidating Kong Suh is. Jurko when you played was there anyone you just did not want to see across the line of scrimmage?
Jurko (1:04 PM)
Randall McDaniel was pretty stout. Carlton Haselrig, he's a Steeler, and Dermonti Dawson were all formidable. But nobody was so good that they couldn't be defeated play to play.
Jurko - Caught you and the boys on the ESPN Radio television commercial this morning. Good to see ESPN putting one of their more handsome faces forward. What kind of impact does Earl Bennett make to the offense? How many points per game better does he make that team, with his sure hands and clutch 3rd down receptions? Any word on a return date for #88?
Jurko (1:05 PM)
He's Cutler's security blanket. He's got a good set of hands. So it's going to take a little bit of time to adjust without him. Btw, he's more hurt than the Bears say he is. My favorite part of the commercial was Harry didn't say anything.
Cheese (Washington, D.C.)
Any chance that Chris Harris gets out on the field on Monday or are we stuck watching Meriweather stink it up out there? Note to Bears: When Bill Belichick releases a "Probowl" player, there's probably a good reason.
Jurko (1:05 PM)
We're stuck with him.
Mitchell (Highland Park)
The Bears OL has had moments where they look OK, but are plagued by inconsistency. Am I wrong to be encouraged by the development and play of some of our young players like Louis, Carimi and Webb?
Jurko (1:06 PM)
Most times in the NFL, players don't dominate other players. Most times it's a player making a mental error or missed assignment that gets capitalized upon. Every blue moon you see a guy get totally destroyed.
Jurko-Best deli in Chi-town?Name one QB that had sustained success with a swiss cheese O-line. So why so much blame on JC? Which would you rather elite o-line with subpar defense or vice versa?
Jurko (1:07 PM)
Manny's. I'd rather have an elite O-line and an elite D-line and you plug in the rest of the pieces.
Huge Bear fan from the North Country!! My question is about the play, or lack there of, of safety Major Wright. He looked like a player in his first game in last year's first preseason game until he broke his finger. Since that game, he has looked tentative to lost. What is your opinion of his play and his future with the Bears?
Jurko (1:08 PM)
Eventually the game has to slow down for everyone. Because of the injury it's taking longer. Even when a guy looks like he's adjusting, teams get some film on him and start game planning his weaknesses to take advantage of him.
Darius Byrd (Madison Heights, Virginia)
I think the bears find a way to get it done this monday with holding Calvin Johnson to just 1 touchdown. How do you think Monday night will end?
Jurko (1:09 PM)
I've got a 1 on the Bears in my confidence picks. I have the Bears winning 17-13. But it's going to have to be a low-scoring game unless Hester does something crazy or the defense scores.
Are the Bears problems mainly associated with not being polished enough as a unit? Or is it lack of talent? (They seem to have the talent but I may be wrong) And if it's being polished, why haven't they clicked yet on offense on a consistent basis?
Jurko (1:10 PM)
I'd say it's 25 percent, 75 percent execution as to why the Bears struggle offensively. Even bad players when executing plays can look competent.
Chris (Kansas City)
Seems like there has been a lack of QB pressure the last two games by the Bears d-line. Am I imagining that? And if not I'm not what do you think has been the reason for it and can it be fixed?
Jurko (1:11 PM)
They're playing better offensive lines, so you're not imagining QBs standing there all day. And Peppers doesn't get doubled all the time. Don't believe the propaganda around Peppers. He still has to prove it on the field.
Sean B (Gadsden, AL)
What do you think the odds are that the Bears pay up and give Forte a new deal before the end of the season?
Jurko (1:12 PM)
I'd say that ship may have sailed already. Only Forte can say yes to a deal. Deals have been offered.
Nick (pikeville ky)
do you think the bears will be able to protect cutler this week with the lions dominating front four i noticed last week even with presence of the run game he still was under pressure the few times he threw, and will earl be back thanks for your time.
Jurko (1:13 PM)
This O-line has difficulty in pass blocking. Communicating is difficult between all of them. They have trouble with stunts. They have problems getting to second level during run plays. One of the bottom four O-lines in the league.
steve bartman (shady motel in Arkansas (shhhh))
Now that Hester is back, think they'll ever pull another fake-Hester-is-returning-while-Knox-takes-it-to-the-house-without-a-bonehead-penalty play?
Jurko (1:13 PM)
You can try, and if you do do it, it might open up some lanes for Hester. If they see Knox, 1 or 2 guys might follow. I think more teams are getting better at locating the ball, too. If you try to run it, the punt teams locate the ball and run to the ball.
Jeff (Atlanta, Ga)
Monady Night will be the first meaningful game in Ford Field an as Tom Brady would put it the fans will have all day to get lubed up. How do you thing Chicago's offense will handle the crowd noise at Ford Field since they haven't had to ever hear a loud crowd there in the past.
Jurko (1:14 PM)
If you could sustain a running game you'll take the crowd out right away. Defensively turnovers will force the crowd to boo their own team. And the Bears travel well.
brandon (scottsdale, az)
Where has Pepper's been since he had 2 sacks week 1?
Jurko (1:15 PM)
I assume he's on the field. I went to the Packers game and even though everyone around me asked if Peppers was playing, I saw his No. 90 out there. Maybe it was Paella in the Peppers jersey.
brandon (scottsdale, az)
Any chances we sign TO when he's ready in a month if Bennett's injury is as serious as your saying? Especially if your boy Roy continues to not show up on Sundays
Jurko (1:16 PM)
TO's done with a torn ACL. He won't be ready until Feb., contrary to whatever he says, which you shouldn't believe. There's nobody available on the free agent market that will be a difference maker. If you want to make a difference, the Bears should have gone after Vincent Jackson.
Paul (Chicago, IL)
Jay Cutler just said when asked if the O-Line will be ready "They're gonna have to be"... doesn't sound like a guy with a whole lot of confidence in the O-Line.
Jurko (1:18 PM)
That's the fact. The O-line is going to have to be ready. Doesn't matter what Jay thinks about them being ready. They have to go out and fight, scratch. I would attack the knees of Suh with multiple cut blocks. And make sure we took as many extra shots on him as we could, legally of course.
Can the O-line find some self respect on MNF or they going to get embarrassed like they always seem to after having one halfway decent game?
Jurko (1:20 PM)
If I was betting, I'd say they're going to get embarassed. Hopefully Mike Tice can instill some pride in them. Chris Williams improved tenfold from week to week.
Do you ever get back to Green Bay and the Fox Cities?
Jurko (1:21 PM)
Yes. I've been up to Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna and I get back for an alumni game every once in a while.
What's the deal on Pisa?
Jurko (1:21 PM)
Had him in for a workout to see if the reconstructed knee is ready.
What are your thoughts on paying for a running back? Pay Forte what hes worth to your team, or too risky given RB's typical decline?
Jurko (1:22 PM)
I'd pay offensive linemen. I don't pay running backs. If you're going to invest in this team, invest in quality o-linemen. In the Bears' O-line you may have 1 1/2 quality offensive linemen right now.
Brad (Charlotte, NC)
Did you believe Angelo when he said they did everything possible for the O-Line in the offseason?
Jurko (1:23 PM)
Absolutely not. It's rhetoric and propaganda. The New England Patriots did more, as did the Indianapolis Colts.
Do you see Martz using more screen plays and short passes to counter the bull-rush that is motor city's front 4?
Jurko (1:23 PM)
Double moves out of receivers. Kind of the way they played it against the Jets last year. Start with short drops and quick-hitters, lull them to sleep, and then start banging them with double moves.
How would you rate the play of Nick Roach?
Jurko (1:24 PM)
Decent. Hasn't embarrassed himself, but I don't see him making plays.
why dont the bears offer a twin backfield with barber and forte in some plays. Seems like the screen would work better, not that it hasnt already. It may keep the LB from blitzing too.
Jurko (1:25 PM)
The split backfield, with two running backs who can catch the ball, would make the line slide a little less predictable. Usually, the line slides away from the fullback because he's the one who stays in to block. With two pass-catchers you can't predict it like that.
sam (iowa city)
Jay Cutler is pretty athletic for a QB. do you think he should start making more plays with his feet? or maybe martz should add some bootlegs?
Jurko (1:27 PM)
The running game has to work for bootlegs to work. When nothing's open I've seen Jay tuck it and run -- they called a QB draw last week near the goal line that didn't work. It is definitely in the game plan.
I like the bears to win 10 games. What do you think?
Jurko (1:28 PM)
Boy, I had them at 7-9 before the season. I think when it's all said and done, the second wild card team will have to have 10 wins.
Da Bear (in da woods)
Would you consider the Bear D dominant? How do you feel about consistency?
Jurko (1:29 PM)
No. not a dominant defense, but an opportunistic defense. They give up WAY TOO MANY yards to be considered dominant.
Shanas (Chicago IL)
Ok, why does Jerry Angelo have a job? I don't have the time to list all of his mistakes but: The Bears' WR crew is a joke. They would ALL be #3 WRs AT BEST on just about any NFL team. This offensive line is awful and he could do nothing to make it better except start a rookie RT? And finally, just look at how bad these drafts have been. Only 2 1st round picks on this team and they were from the last two years (and Chris Williams is a bust). WHY DO THE BEARS EMPLOY THIS JOKE?
Jurko (1:30 PM)
The Bears organization has adopted the Pittsburgh philosophy. They believe they need stability in the front office to ensure long-term success. In my mind's eye, they would be better off replacing Jerry Angelo.
How good are the Lions, really? Yeah, undefeated, but behind by a bunch in a couple of games and at least half of their victories are against terrible teams.
Jurko (1:31 PM)
Good enough to be tied for first place in the Bears' division. I have them 10th int he power rankings even though they're 4-0. It's easier to win in September and October in this league than it is in November and December.
Our Field Position (Which helped us in years past) seems to stink this year. How much of that is due to the loss of Maynard?
Jurko (1:32 PM)
It has more to do with kickoffs. Hester hasn't been able to return a ton of stuff on kickoffs.
Jurko (1:32 PM)
Bears win on Monday night. Lovie will find a way to get something goofy like that done. See you all next week.
