Stephania Bell (11:03 AM)
Good morning and Happy Friday! Hope everyone is in line for a great weekend! How's your fantasy team doing with all the bye weeks and injuries. I'm a little worried about mine...
With Mendenhall being limited in practice Thursday due to his knee, do you see any concern for Sunday?
Stephania Bell (11:05 AM)
Ray: I do. At least as of this immediate moment. Limited Thursday suggests he left practice because of the knee. No word from the Steelers as to what it is and how serious. Looking to see if he goes out today before final judgement.
Michael (Boston, Ma)
Good Morning Stephania, Whats the latest on Jimmy Graham?
Stephania Bell (11:05 AM)
Michael: Saints practice report not in yet, but it sounded as if he had soreness Weds so they gave him Thurs off. If he's back Friday, not concerned.
Sheila (Houston, TX)
Hola Stephania!! Somone dropped Julio Jones so I snatched him up..good move or is that hammy going to make him unstartable for more than 2 weeks?
Stephania Bell (11:06 AM)
Sheila: I think it's a great pickup. Looks like he'll be out this week (although they're saying a gtd) but with next week being a bye, he gets some extra rest and then could be a nice second half of the season for him...and you.
Timothy E. (Asheville, NC)
Stephania, I hope you are doing well. How is Addai's hammy doing? Worth dropping or holding onto for now?
Stephania Bell (11:08 AM)
Timothy: I'm not the biggest Addai fan. I'm sure he's very nice but not huge fantasy numbers of late and definitely will miss some time with injuries. As far as the hamstring, he's improving but not enough to practice. Won't play this week. If you've got room on your bench, might as well keep him but I'd be looking for some better options.
Jose (Los Angeles?)
Am I overreacting to the news about Greg Olsen's turf toe? These things tend to linger even though the Panthers sound optimistic. How is Olsen's turf toe different from Best's turf toe last year?
Stephania Bell (11:10 AM)
Jose: Certainly the words turf toe make you nervous b/c the condition can be so severe. But the term can get used for even the most minor sprains and so not every case of "turf toe" is equal. Sounds like this was not a huge concern for them and he is expected to be fine for the weekend.
New girl in fantasy football-is Best out for sure and if so I need a pickup this week(ppr)- Deangelo Williams, Heyward-Bey or Donald Brown. thanks.
Stephania Bell (11:10 AM)
Sarah: Team has not made it official but no one expects him to play. I like Heyward-Bey.
Rumors are swirling that J. Best has been advised to sit out the remainder of the season. Have you heard anymore on this, and what is your take on the likelihood of this given his 3 concussions in 2 years and the NFL's tough standards with concussions?
Stephania Bell (11:13 AM)
Matthew: As a follow to the last post, it is, at this point, a rumor. And concussions have to be evaluated on an individual basis. There's no automatic timeline for recovery. So while I beleive the Lions are well aware of the concern for an athlete who has had 3 in two years like Best, there's nothing to say what the recovery period is - two weeks, two months, or longer. So I don't think he's automatically out rest of the season.
Jeff (New York)
Gates this week?
Stephania Bell (11:16 AM)
Jeff: It looks that way. Won't be a lock until Sunday morning but all signs point to go. BUT, they will limit his snaps, feeling they overused him in first couple games. Those limited snaps come in the red zone though so expect him to be a target for scoring. Need to keep in mind, this does not mean he's "healthy" - this will be an ongoing management issue for rest of season (which is what I said when the season started) and it will be week-to-week.
What's the word on Blount?
Stephania Bell (11:17 AM)
Jeremy: AP report says Morris declared him out today. Will not play (not a surprise but now looks official).
Someone in my league dropped Ben Tate. Is he worth stashing on my bench in case of an injury to Foster? If so, who would you drop: Tomlinson or maurice Morris?
Stephania Bell (11:19 AM)
Dan: I would stash Tate. He's proven himself and if something does happen to Foster, he's likely to be the one to take the load. And I'd drop LT. Morris is going to be the starter - at least this week and perhaps a while longer.
Andre Johnson back next week?
Stephania Bell (11:20 AM)
K: I believe he will be if his progres continues at current rate.
Is Daniel Thomas healthy, and will he get the majority of the carries if he is?
Stephania Bell (11:20 AM)
Mark: Yes, came out of the Monday night game fine. Limited work this week given it's a short week. Expect he gets the majority of carries.
Any word on if Highower is going to start this week?
Stephania Bell (11:22 AM)
Lori: No. He's back to full practices - but I'd expect Torain still gets the start, and then the fun begins. Shanahan likely to rotate backs, whoever is playing better will play more. Very, very hard to predict workload.
Worst case scenario for F. Jones? Is a long-term absence possible (the variety that'd allow D. Murray to take over the lead role even after his return)?
Stephania Bell (11:25 AM)
Matt: It's such an open-ended situation. Can't say what the max number of weeks he'll miss. They gave a 2-4 week timetable initially. I expect it takes the 4 - and then leave a cushion. If he comes back too soon he's at far bigger risk of at least poor performance and at worst, extended missed time. But figure at least a month for Murray to showcase something.
Peyton Hillis continues to have a nightmare season. Do you see any scenario where Montario Hardesty becomes RB1 for the rest of the year?
Stephania Bell (11:26 AM)
Jack: Not unless his injury becomes catastrophic. Which I don't think this is. He had strep throat, now a hamstring, relatively mild but obviously still an issue for a RB. Don't forget, Hardesty has a lengthy and significant injury history himself so it's not like he'll just take over.
Painter or Ponder, bye week fill in?
Stephania Bell (11:28 AM)
Gerald: Lots of chatter about Ponder, including from Football Today's Matt Williamson and many think he'll make plays on his feet as well as with his arm.
Mornin' Stephania! seems VJax is good to go from what I hear. Anything on your end new?? thx
Stephania Bell (11:29 AM)
john: good to go! or so it is as far as today.
Can you comment further on Blount? Will he likely be back after the bye week? Thanks
Stephania Bell (11:31 AM)
Alan: It's tough because the team has said ZERO about his status, nor has he. There is one report out there about a partially torn MCL, but no way to know for sure. Without any info, we're just guessing but if it's the grade 2 tear, reasonable to think he could be back within 1-3 weeks post-bye.
Rob Knorr (Jamaica)
How is your boy Crabtree doing with his foot?
Stephania Bell (11:32 AM)
Rob: He's playing on it. Soooo...that's the good part. He already said he expects to have pain all year so it's not like we're looking for a healthy Crabtree, just a functional one. And then Braylon Edwards coming back after the bye should help too.
Timmy G (Cincy)
Is Roddy's thigh a factor as to why he isn't producing this year?
Stephania Bell (11:34 AM)
Timmy: I think it's part of it - at least early on it was. White was dropping far more passes than is usual for him and it could ahve been due, at least in part, to all the missed practice time. Seems like he's on the right track to recovery though.
Thomas fan (MN)
Mike L., and now demaryious thomas had a torn achilles tendon do you see this injury similar to an ACL where it takes a year after surgery to fully recover?
Stephania Bell (11:36 AM)
We really haven't seen a lot of these injuries to the younger skill position players. So it's hard to fully project. But the big concern after this injury is losing power, speed, explosiveness - keys to Thomas's game. He's practicing and doing well but game situations always different (ask the guys coming off ACL) - so we'll see how he looks once he gets out on the field. Could be this weekend...
Someone offered me a trade of Roddy white for Antonio Gates. Although Gates has that lingering foot, do I keep Gates for his potential ROS. I also have Jason Witten starting for me.
Stephania Bell (11:37 AM)
jane: If I had Witten, I'd make the trade if you need help at WR.
what is the latest on ryan matthews & his calf?
Stephania Bell (11:37 AM)
Greg: Better. He's off the injury report, playing this weekend.
Mike (Toronto, Ontario)
Are you concerned about Colston's collarbone going forward? He had a nice game last week - do you expect him to keep playing at the high level we all expect him too?
Stephania Bell (11:39 AM)
Mike: Every week that passes is another week that the bone gets stronger. It had obviously healed to the point that he was cleared to return but the bone continues to remodel for quite some time afterward. Now he's just getting back to football shape so expect him to continue to perform.
Is Sam Bradford going to be a for-sure starter Sunday? I need to drop him and add someone else soon if not...
Stephania Bell (11:43 AM)
David: The plan was for Bradford to test the ankle Friday. No word yet. But as the week went on it looked less and less likely he'd play. Feeley has been taking all the practice reps and I believe he'll end up starting. Will be tough for Bradford to be mobile enough to protect himself. Risk of more serious injury is a legit concern. At least get yourself some insurance at QB.
Mike Tolbert: what's going on with him?
Stephania Bell (11:44 AM)
Brad: He's been fully practicing. Still listed on the injury report since he is coming off the concussion, but barring some setback, he'll play.
At the risk of being ridiculed by everyone here, I have to ask about Janikowski. Do you feel he plays Sunday? Before everyone rips me on this, the guy put up 20 points for me two weeks ago. Thanks so much, Ms. B.
Stephania Bell (11:46 AM)
J.B. Not the first kicker question ever - and sometimes the difference maker in a tight fantasy game! He has a hamstring issue that came up Thursday. Definitely a real concern when it comes up late in the week. As a kicker, both hamstrings important, one on the plant leg for power and on the kicking leg for flexibility. Have to wait and see what he does Friday.
Can you comment on Carson Palmer's arm strength? I'm seeing a lot of predictions based on his most recent NFL stats, where his arm health was questionable. I've read that his strength is back. Could he be better than we think?
Stephania Bell (11:49 AM)
Sean: I am really interested to see how he looks. He definitely seemed to have some issues with his throwing arm coming off the elbow injury (remember he had a partial tear of his UCL and for a while there was discussion about Tommy John surgery). The time may have been the best thing in allowing scar tissue to form, making his elbow stronger. He's been throwing for a while with Ken O'Brien preparing for football so his arm should be in decent shape. The rest of him may take a while to get up to speed but the time off may have actually helped him.
Happy Friday Stephania! With V-Jax still nursing an injury and visiting Revis Island this week would you start Jordy Nelson over him?
Stephania Bell (11:50 AM)
Mike: I wouldn't - just because he's proven to be such a playmaker, even when at less than 100%. Sounds like they may mix up the coverage using Revis on both Jackson and Gates - so I'd play VJax.
Staffords injury history seems to kill his trade value. Should it? And is a Stafford for either Arian Foster or Forte trade fair? Thanks, Bad News.
Stephania Bell (11:53 AM)
Matt: I think the injury history is a false alarm at this point. He's a legitimate starting QB in fantasy. I'm not sure I give up Arian Foster for him b/c I think there are more comparable QBs - maybe not always as productive as him but not far behind - as opposed to top tier RBs. Forte, I feel less strongly than Foster, but still would be tough for me to trade a clear feature back (as opposed to a starter who shares the load).
Michael (Wilmington, MA)
Hey Stephania, When would there be a word on Mendenhall and where could I look it up?
Stephania Bell (11:54 AM)
Michael: After practice is done today, would expect updates on our NFL page on both him and Wallace. So far, nothing new. I update injured players in my Saturday blog too
Hi Stephania- Kubiak has not ruled Andre Johnson out this week. So, if the Texans run him out there, I have to as well, right?
Stephania Bell (11:56 AM)
Chip: Really, really, really don't think that's going to happen. Best to ind a replacement.
TEBOW! TEBOW! TEBOW! Would you drop Crab or Moreno to pickup a TE? Moreno hammy ok?
Stephania Bell (11:57 AM)
Dave: There's certainly plenty of enthusiasm for Tebow...now we'll see if he delivers. I'd drop Moreno. His role has shifted in Denver and he hasn't been able to stay healthy. At least Crabtree's involvement in the passing game is on the rise.
Any word on Arian Foster's hammy?
Stephania Bell (11:58 AM)
Steve: He's no longer on the injury report so not an issue (at least not now).
LT was held out of practice for a bit this week. I'm in bye week misery, and dont know whether to start him or Choice this weekend. Thoughts?
Stephania Bell (11:59 AM)
Rick: Not injury related (being held out of practice) and he's going to be the starter - which is likely a "symbolic" move since it's against the Chargers. But doesn't that suggest they'd like to help him get into the end zone against them? I'd go LT.
Addai a go next week? Any concerns on B. Marshall this week?
Stephania Bell (12:00 PM)
Paul: Too soon to know for sure on Addai. Marshall back at full practice yesterday so not worried.
Schaub still breathing? I have him this week with Frtiz on a bye. I can still pick up Hasselbeck if need be.
Stephania Bell (12:01 PM)
Bryce: He's still breathing - but he needs to not get hit a lot right now. If you coudl grab Hasselbeck, this is the week to do it. Think he has the better game...
Stephania Bell (12:02 PM)
Time for me to exit the chat room. Berry is up now so you can hit him up for lineup advice. Or go to Melissa Jacobs at 3 pm. today - she's awesome and knows her stuff as well as anyone...Good luck in Week 7!
