Ohm (2:00 PM)
Hey guys, what's going on today?
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Do you think that Reubin Randle will be a perfect Replacement for Mario Manningham?
Ohm (2:01 PM)
I don't know about "perfect." It is hard to tell after just a few OTA practices. But I will say this, Coughlin talked about how he could see Randle's talent just by watching him catch punts. So that has to mean something considering Coughlin isn't one to just offer up praise.
Hey Ohmie.....the sparkies will suck this year!!! They just make me sick to my stomach!!!! They have made me ill since the spring of 1979!!!!
Ohm (2:02 PM)
Might be a fifth-straight year of feeling ill for you from MSU football.
On paper, what is the Giants' biggest weakness right now?
Ohm (2:03 PM)
Well, we have to see how they come through health-wise out of camp. But as of this very moment, I guess I would say there are question marks about the running game (revamped offensive line and loss of Jacobs) and secondary at corner since we have to see how Terrell Thomas and the other corners come back from injuries. And then we have to see how the linebackers come along with Rivers addition.
Ohm (2:04 PM)
Better than that other school four straight years in a row.
Mike (Hipster Brooklyn)
The Giants signed Jake Muasau from Georgia State. What did the scouts/Perry Fewell see in him that made them want to sign Jake? Any chance he gets any playing time in camp at the mike?
Ohm (2:06 PM)
Perry Fewell raved about Jake yesterday when reporters asked about him. Let's just say this... apparently he left an impression on the Giants because he was working as the third-string MLB with Greg Jones moved over to OLB. Now Fewell says Greg will still be a MLB but they wanted to see what Greg can do outside. But they like Jake quite a bit. Fewell likes him enough that he said the guy just looks like a MIKE and carries himself like a professional.
Ohm, what's happening man? You've seen the rookie mini camp and some OTAs thusfar this offseason. Which rookie(s) have been most impressive to you in the very small sample size?
Ohm (2:07 PM)
Chris, again, real small sampling. I wasn't there last week because I was on vacation. So really I have seen just two rookie camp practices and one OTA. I guess it would have to be Randle because I have seen him the most. Hard to tell how good Wilson will be in non-contact practices. Jayron looks fast but haven't seen a ton of him. The linemen are even harder to judge from where we are able to watch practices.
Draymond (East Lansing)
Where am I going in the draft next month Ohmeo?
Ohm (2:08 PM)
Haven't been keeping a close eye on how the draft prospects are doing but I would not be surprised to see Draymond go somewhere in the 20s or later in the first round.
Any news on Jaiquan Williams? Haven't heard anything about him putting on weight since last off-season...which i think he needs to do in order to take the next step.
Ohm (2:09 PM)
No news on Jacquian. He worked with the second team linebackers at WILL. He's still going to be a WILL on passing downs. The main linebackers could be Boley, Blackburn and Kiwanuka.
Did you see David Wilson's first pitch at Citi Field last night? Guess TC will not be implementing the ole halfback option anytime soon..
Ohm (2:09 PM)
I missed it Mike. I'm guessing it wasn't good. Hopefully it got it across the plate.
Ohm who looks the best so far that you think will make the team that was drafted in the later rounds ( 4th on back )
Ohm (2:10 PM)
Richard, really really hard to tell right now. So early. We haven't even seen much of Adrien Robinson because he was not there while at school. So hard to tell.
Mark D'Antonio (East Lansing, MI)
Ohm, how many wins do I get this year with Kirk Cousins now in the nation's capital?
Ohm (2:11 PM)
Without looking closely at the schedule right now (off the top of my head), I'm thinking closer to seven. Going to be tough this year and their schedule from what I remember is hard.
Rossy C (Bethany Beach (via NJ))
Since they recently become pubicly vocal with their Osi holdout support, could Tuck, Kiwanuka, etc restructure their current contracts to open up cap (at elast on the backend) to get Osi some more $$$?
Ohm (2:12 PM)
Rossy, I suppose so but I doubt it. Kiwi just got his deal. Tuck's deal is probably not going to be restructured because it is not that significantly large as say like Canty's deal on a per-year average. And besides, it would have to be up to the Giants to want to restructure those deals to pay Osi what he wants. And I think both sides are far apart so I don't think the Giants want to pay him a ton to begin with.
Phillip (Reston, VA)
What are you hearing about Prince Amakamura progress in the OTA's and offseason? Is he poised to justify being selected in the first round last season or will Giants be disappointed in 2012-13?
Ohm (2:13 PM)
Prince just began running on grass on Tuesday. He said if he strong enough and is cleared by doctors, perhaps he can participate in veterans mini camp in mid-June. Otherwise, he will be ready for camp. Remember, he had an injection to his foot to help it heal.
OHM do you think the rookie RB will be the future back for us?
Ohm (2:14 PM)
MATT, very hard to say right now. He hasn't even had a carry in a contact practice yet. But they like his quickness and athleticism. It may take him a while to develop like Bradshaw did.
KingsoftheRings (Laurel, MD)
I see a mini-dynasty in the Giants? A linebacker away from a legitimate dynasty....What do you think?
Ohm (2:16 PM)
I don't think it is juat one missing piece like a linebacker and then boom, they are a dynasty. I think it is more of replacing several pieces they lost and several of their young unproven players stepping in and performing for them to be a dynasty. They could add Patrick Willis and that doesn't mean they are going back to the Super Bowl if their offensive line can't open holes for the running backs and protect Eli Manning or if they can't find a third wide receiver to replace Mario Manningham or if their secondary is shaky and not healthy.
Dan C (Queens, NY)
Good afternoon Ohm, how long do you think this Osi contract fiasco will go? Do you feel like this will be a distraction all offseason?
Ohm (2:16 PM)
I'm prepared for this to last through training camp like last season.
Teddy NJ (New Orleans)
What can we expect from the O-Line this year?
Ohm (2:17 PM)
Kevin Gilbride said he is concerned about the line. I don't think it is going to be that much of a concern but the Giants certainly have to deal with change on the O-line. Got to see what Beatty can do over a full season at LT and Boothe at LG and see how Diehl does at RT.
Has there been any updates on Barden on the practice field, is there ant spark in the kid?
Ohm (2:18 PM)
I just wrote a lengthy column with updates on the wide receivers. It's on ESPNNewYork.com. There's an update on Barden in the column.
OSI FOR KELLEN WINSLOW??
Ohm (2:18 PM)
NICK... NO!! LOL.
Hey Ohmmm have you seen anything from Herzlich in OTA's? hes second team mlb right? I'd love to see him get some time on run downs
Ohm (2:19 PM)
Joe, yes, second-team MLB. Perry sounded pretty happy with his athleticism, praising him for making a nice play in OTA yesterday. But Perry is going to see what Chase does at MLB and work Rivers in at some MLB reps as well.
Any impression on Barden? Couglin thinks he runs hot and cold. have you seen anything out of him that makes you think he will play on Sundays?
Ohm (2:20 PM)
Giants say Barden has to get out of his releases a bit better. They like his hands and size and how he uses his body and how he knows the offense. They find him to be pretty dependable. But he has to be consistent.
Darren (Great Neck )
Are the Giants and Kenny Phillips talking about a new contract, or is the team ready to let him test free agency in 2013?
Ohm (2:21 PM)
They may be but they tend to keep those talks private. I am sure the Giants have a price in mind as they always do.
Ohm (2:21 PM)
And I would think the Giants and Kenny are both better off waiting to see how this season plays out.
Hey Ohm, why are you having a chat when you don't seem to know much about this young season?
Ohm (2:22 PM)
Because there is a chat every week and it is hard to answer in detail how every guy looks and what they are going to do this season at the end of May. But I try my best.
Did the Gmen officially resign Blackburn? Don't remember seeing that.
Ohm (2:22 PM)
Yes, they re-signed him back in free agency... late in free agency.
Sparty (East Lansing)
Pete (MI) sucks!
Ohm (2:23 PM)
LOL. Go State.
did Fewell seem concerned with how the backers were coming together? It seems like from his comments that he's not really sure what he's got... I just cant see Blackburn starting 16 games. I mean I loved how he played late last year but sheesh
Ohm (2:24 PM)
I actually think Fewell is excited about the depth and athleticism he has at linebacker. I think he is kind of excited about the possibilities but he also has to figure out exactly what he has. He is still learning Rivers and seeing what Rivers can do and that is why he wants to move these guys around a bit.
Do you think there is anything wrong with the turf that is causing these injuries (Prince, Nicks, Bing scare yesterday)
Ohm (2:25 PM)
They were practicing on grass outdoors yesterday. As for when Nicks got hurt, I think it was outdoors as well but that practice was closed to the media. So I don't think it is turf-related. They don't practice in the stadium. Only time they practice on turf is when they are indoors due to rain or weather.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Who do you think will be the Best Rookie Player for the New York Giants in 2012?
Ohm (2:26 PM)
Chris, my guess is Randle will probably have the most opportunities to contribute as a rookie. He and Wilson and Jayron.
Eli Manning (Champions Row)
Ohm, people laughed at me last year when I emphatically stated my status as an elite quarterback. Now that I talked the talk, and walked the walk. Am I getting the respect I finally deserve and removed the shadow Peyton from over me? My track record in big games and jewelry collection clearly show I'm more clutch than my BIG BRO.
Ohm (2:27 PM)
I think Eli has definitely gotten his props. As for him being better than Peyton, that is still a good debate regardless of Super Bowl wins.
Ohm (2:27 PM)
Alright guys, thanks for all the questions this week! Have a great weekend!
