KC Joyner (4:00 PM)
Good afternoon! Let's talk some football!
Are we finally done talking about TE's in the first / second round in fantasy football? The Risk/Reward is huge!
KC Joyner (4:01 PM)
There should be zero talk this year of tight ends in the first two rounds of fantasy football drafts. Running backs should completely take over the first round (they will likely make up my top 15 players in this year's TFS Fantasy Football Draft Guide).
Last year I used your draft guide and sit and start service and it was awesome and I know its early but will you be doing your fantasy draft guide and sit and start service this 2013 season? your draft guide is usually out the last week of August correct? Keep up the good work Mr. J
KC Joyner (4:02 PM)
Hey, glad you liked the guide and service! The guide is likely slated for delivery in mid-late June this year. I'll be sending out more info about it very soon (maybe as early as next week - check out the chats and my Twitter feed @KCJoynerTFS for more info).
You know who's better than Mike Wallace? Megatron.
KC Joyner (4:02 PM)
It's always refreshing to see this as the very first comment posted in the chats.
mike (new jersey)
with the draft in the rearview mirror almost, what are your expectations for the steelers in terms of a record standpoint?
KC Joyner (4:04 PM)
I wasn't entirely sold on Bell as the best back for the Steelers. Add that to the questions about their passing game (dink dunk isn't the best system for Ben) and the necessary transition to youth on defense and this looks like an 8-8 club.
eric buffalo, ny [via mobile]
Hey kc. How do you think the Steelers young offensive line will do this year, if they can stay healthy?
KC Joyner (4:05 PM)
They ranked 26th in good blocking rate last year, so there really isn't much room for them to decline. If they stay healthy, it should be a top 15 unit (think closer to 15 than to 10).
B Mand (Sarasota, FL)
What did the metrics say about Ronde Barber last year? Was it a good decision to retire, or did he have some left in the tank?
KC Joyner (4:06 PM)
It's tough because he moved from S to CB and back again. He had something close to a double-digit YPA if memory serves correct, but that type of thing can happen to hybrid players.
Joe (Tampa Bay)
Good afternoon KC. What kind of stats or yards per say do you see Doug Martin putting up this year and do you think that he may break a record or two along the way with his healthy front line?
KC Joyner (4:07 PM)
Martin was tied for 4th in GBYPA but was tied for 39th in good blocking rate (i.e. how often he received good blocking). Better O line play could help his numbers move upwards.
How soon can Terrance Williams contribute to the Cowboys?
KC Joyner (4:08 PM)
He ranked No. 1 in my review of top WRs in this year's NFL Draft (http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft2013/story/_/id/9163270/2013-nfl-draft-ranking-draft-top-wide-receivers). Issue for him is playing time, as he would probably rate as the 4th best target on this team right now.
B Mand (Sarasota, FL)
Is Ronde Barber a Hall of Famer?
KC Joyner (4:09 PM)
I'd vote yes if I had a HOF vote. Consistently top-flight play over a very long period of time and he was a key player on a Super Bowl winner.
Any Rookie RB's on your radar as high value pick? Who do you see coming out of the GB RB battle and do you think it'll have any effect on the GB passing attack?
KC Joyner (4:10 PM)
Got more than a few good rookie RB prospects - check out this recent Insider article I penned on the subject - http://insider.espn.go.com/fantasy/football/story/_/id/9238314/kc-joyner-montee-ball-top-fantasy-rookie-running-backs-2013-nfl-season.
KC Joyner (4:11 PM)
Regarding GB running backs, there are many reasons to think Franklin will end up as the lead platoon back in a thunder and lightning backfield (Lacy will be the thunder back).
Scott (Northglenn, CO)
So fantasy-wsie, who's your top TE and when would you take him?
KC Joyner (4:12 PM)
Graham - Gronk is too injured to be considered the top TE. Really wouldn't consider taking him until at least late round 3/early round 4. As bad as the fantasy TE position is this year, taking him early is actually a suggested move.
you'd have to be a "mad scientist" to take a chance on Titus Young Sr ., do your metrics indicate he may be worth the risk for a team that's desperate for WRs?
KC Joyner (4:13 PM)
This is one of those cases where metrics really aren't the best barometer. He reportedly intentionally screwed up on the field last year and he just got arrested twice in one day. Until issues like that are taken care of, it really doesn't matter what his numbers are, as he can't be counted on.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Which NFL Rookie Running Backs do you think will be the Best in the NFL in 2013 Possibly NFL Rookie of the Year?
KC Joyner (4:14 PM)
Ball is the leader in that area. Denver has a strong run blocking line (ranked 4th in GBR last year) and he's playing in an offense that is very difficult to stack the run against.
Bobby (Madison, WI)
KC, I am REALLY going to test your knowledge with this one! The Packers drafted Charles Johnson, WR Grand valley State in the 7th Round. Based on the tapes I've seen of him he looks like a potential steal. Size, speed, good hands, runs Packer routes, etc. I would love to hear your thoughts.
KC Joyner (4:15 PM)
I break down a whole lot of college tape but Grand Valley State just doesn't make it into the tape hopper.
In an auction format, how much are you budgetting for RB's this year? Due to their value, should we be going back to the 50% on 2 studs rest duds model of old?
KC Joyner (4:16 PM)
Given the dearth of RB candidates after the top 15 backs are off the board, it will pay to get two of them. 50% sounds about right.
Brayden (Rio Grande Valley, Texas)
Do you think the Vikings can make a DEEP playoff run this year?
KC Joyner (4:17 PM)
They still need more talent to get to the NFC Title game. Related note - I just submitted an article regarding Peterson's chances to get 2.5K next year. Look for it to be posted on ESPN.com tomorrow.
What is your take on Darren McFadden this year? I have seen his stock drop, but if he stays healthy, I see him as a great steal.
KC Joyner (4:18 PM)
He ranked 25th in GBYPA despite having an off year. It's hard to see him doing worse than that and isn't hard to see him doing better, so he does fit the steal definition.
You believe in Ansah or not?
KC Joyner (4:19 PM)
Tough call. Let's put it this way - I've got faith that Gunther Cunningham and his staff can develop Ansah into a really good player.
Michael P (Mission Hills)
Hey KC, I would like know what you are hearing about the San Diego Chargers. Any Left tackle news? Free agency news/possibilities? And does Keenan Allen have a true legit chance as a starter over Malcom or Danario?
KC Joyner (4:20 PM)
Can't say I've heard much out of SD, but can say they may have some developing to do with Allen. He really had a subpar 2012 season, although his skill level is probably a lot higher than his numbers indicate.
Hello KC, was Tyson Clabo a good signing for the Dolphins? Should they have gone with Winston?
KC Joyner (4:22 PM)
Every analysis I've done of Clabo over the years says he is a solid/good starter. Winston has a lot more hype but Clabo is just as good, so this was a laudable move by Miami.
Craig (Braintree, MA)
What do you say about the Vikings decision to ax Kluwe? Peter King and Minnesota's governor (Dayton) think it is because of Kluwe's activism.
KC Joyner (4:22 PM)
ESPN NFC North blogger Kevin Seifert had a really good take on this - http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcnorth/post/_/id/56119/chris-kluwe-release-the-role-of-advocacy.
Scott (Nortglenn, CO)
I feel like Lamar Miller mya break out..any metrics to back this up?
KC Joyner (4:23 PM)
Miami did rank second in the league in good blocking rate last year, so the odds are really good he will have many favorable situations in which to gain yards.
How deep is QB this year? During the draft they said only 8-10 teams were even thinking about QB. Does that mean we could conceivably wait until rounds 8-10 for QB this year? Jay Cutler/Carson Palmer/Alex Smith as targets?
KC Joyner (4:25 PM)
QBs fell very far in the mock draft that followed the ESPN Fantasy Football Rankings summit. If memory serves correct, Eric Karabell was able to select Tony Romo as his starting quarterback in the ninth round. The QB pool is very deep in FFB this year.
over/under 1300 APY for Reggie Bush this year?
KC Joyner (4:26 PM)
Will take the over on that one. Bush ranked 15th in GBYPA last year and Detroit's run blocking should be better than anticipated this year.
KC Joyner (4:28 PM)
Well, it's been fun but just had something come up so it's time to hit the road. Quick notes before heading out - the TFS material is always posted on Twitter @KCJoynerTFS. Be sure to check out that Adrian Peterson article tomorrow. Thanks again for all of the questions and I hope to see you all here next week!
