Garry Paskwietz (5:00 PM)
Good afternoon everybody, let's get started.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
What NFL Teams Selected USC Players in the 2014 NFL Draft?
Garry Paskwietz (5:01 PM)
Jacksonville took Marqise Lee in 2nd round, San Francisco picked Marcus Martin in 3rd round and NY Giants selected Devon Kennard in 5th round.
Do you think that Marquise Lee's fall in the draft will hurt recruiting? Lots of other receivers were drafted before him. It happened last year with Robert Woods too. Thanks.
Garry Paskwietz (5:03 PM)
Not at all. Marqise is an elite talent who should quickly get back to his old self once he is healthy. When you look at his drop in production last year, you can point a line directly to injuries and other factors. And there is still nothing wrong with being a 2nd round draft pick in the NFL, especially if that can be backed up with a long career in the league. I think Jacksonville is heading in a good direction too.
Can USC win a Pac-12 title with Cody Kessler at QB. I really like him but he just doesn't really make any "wow" throws.
Garry Paskwietz (5:05 PM)
Oh I definitely think Cody is capable of doing that. I'm really looking forward to what he can do in this offense because the system showed last year that it is capable of putting up big numbers in year one at Washington. This style of play requires good decision making and accurate timing passing from the quarterback as much as anything and I think Cody is fine in those areas.

What are the chances that dawson can surpass sarao in the summer camp. Sarao is the better athlete but Dawson seems like he is suited to be the physical linebacker we need. I expect big things outta both. I agree with sark when he days this team has better depth than publicized. Fight on!!
Garry Paskwietz (5:07 PM)
I'll put it at 50/50, just like I would have put it last year when Dawson was the starter in summer. You hit on a point in that each guy has some strengths in what they do well and neither one has really separated from the other in terms of being a clear choice to start. If I had to guess, I would say Dawson is the more likely to make that kind of move, he is really looking big these days. You are correct on depth, as long as the injury bug doesn't hit too hard.
Beau (Austin, Texas)
Garry, Many USC fans see the weakness in next year's starting line-up being the O-line. Can you give an update on how the O-line has been shaping up since beginning of spring-ball to the end? Has Drevno had any impact on the group? Thanks
Garry Paskwietz (5:11 PM)
I would definitely put that at the top of my concern list. There were some positives coming out of spring on the line with Tuerk solidifying things at center, Wheeler leaving no doubt that he is the LT of the future and of course the surprise of Banner at RT. I give a lot of credit to Rodgers and Lobendahn for the jobs they did at guard, they showed they are capable, but right now the status of Walker and Simmons is uncertain. How will those two veterans, namely Walker, be able to quickly get up to speed with the up-tempo offense? Reports from Sark at a recent event were encouraging about Walker's conditioning right now. That might be as important as anything heading into fall camp. I think Drevno has had a terrific impact on the group and you can tell the Trojans got a good one here.
Tarik LaCour (Salt Lake City, Utah)
Do you think this draft will inspire more loyalty to stay four years (of playing time, not redshirt year does not count)? Ty Isaac is transferring, think he goes to Notre Dame?
Garry Paskwietz (5:15 PM)
I don't think you can really answer that yet. What happens if Dion Bailey pulls a Nickell Robey and becomes a starter with the Seahawks? Or if Breslin has success with the Niners? And don't forget the flip side with a Marcus Martin, a guy who was questioned when he announced to come out early but who ended up as a third round pick. Guys will look at him and think that can happen to them. Have not heard anything yet on a destination for Ty other than something closer to home, and ND certainly qualifies there and we know he had interest coming out of high school.
Bob (Westlake Village)
Any Running Backs showing interest for USC in 2015 Class...Thanks & Fight On
Garry Paskwietz (5:16 PM)
The #1 RB on the ESPN list is Damien Harris and he has the Trojans listed in his top 10. Hard to know how legit the chances are until he potentially visits campus, he is from Kentucky. One local name to keep an eye on is Malik Lovette from Redlands East Valley, he has an SC offer and the Trojans are in the mix with UCLA and ND.
What are the latest recruiting Rumors in regards to SC Gary?
Garry Paskwietz (5:21 PM)
The biggest speculation right now involves the pending decision from tight end Tyler Petite from Northern California. It looks to be a race between USC, Stanford and Duke. This would be a big one for the Trojans as Petite is an athletic pass catching option.
Jason (Newport Beach)
Hi Garry, Thanks for the chats and hard work. always appreciated! With Jacob Daniel verbally committing and shutting down his recruitment do you see this having a positive or negative effect on the other key targets for DL? I personally feel it could be a domino effect to be apart of a great DL class. Thoughts?
Garry Paskwietz (5:23 PM)
You're welcome. I think it's a great thing for the potential of this DL group. Great players want to play with other great players and guys like Rasheem Green and Khalil McKenzie know what kind of player Daniel is. This has a chance to be a special DL class for the Trojans when you also add in other candidates such as Noah Jefferson and Keisean Lucier-South.
Garry. What's the chance of the PAC 12 going to 8 conference games just like the SEC and ACC.
Garry Paskwietz (5:24 PM)
That would really surprise me. The Pac-12 has hung their hat on the 9-game schedule and the only way I could really see that changing is if every other conference involved in the playoff was going to an 8-game schedule and the pressure to do it was just too much.

2 part question..while we try and load up in 2015 with a top 5 class it seems like we're still taking these 3 star players is there something the coaches know that we don't? Also I don't believe we should be bringing 2 Qbs in this class since I believe sills won't see the field with town and Browne in the fold..I know he loves sc but realistically the talent level is very different..and that scholarship should go to a position of need like DL..thoughts??
Garry Paskwietz (5:31 PM)
2 of the last 3 commits have been ESPN300 guys who are ranked among the top 15 in their position. And in Hemsley, I think he is extremely underrated on his potential because he is so much about potential right now, but I will side with a 6-5, 285 high school junior who has the footwork of a top-ranked basketball player, which he has been up until now. He is only recently realizing football is his future and i think he'll turn out to be a great recruit. it's also important to realize that there are still 19 rides to go so that can impact taking an extra body, such as a 2nd QB or a third OT like Andre James or an extra DL. It will be interesting to see what happens with Sills, I think he has turned into more of an option for Sark's style that originally anticipated. Clay Helton was at Sills' workout last Friday so there should be an indication soon of where Sills will go from here.
scmiker (West Hills)
With Ty Isaac deciding to transfer, Any possibility of moving Adore Jackson or one of the new recruits to running back for depth?
Garry Paskwietz (5:32 PM)
I don't think you can rule that out at all. Sark has talked about creating certain packages for Adoree' on offense and there's no reason those snaps couldn't originate from the RB spot as easily as they could from the slot or on the outside. Last year there was talk of giving Anthony Brown a shot at tailback, if he's healthy, maybe he gets a look.
With Isaac leaving, how many rbs do you think USC will bring in and how are the most likely to commit? As far as this year on the field i think they will be fine with Buck Tre and justin Davis but in 15 could be thin if buck and tre go to the draft. Thanks Garry
Garry Paskwietz (5:34 PM)
Sark has said he wants to bring in 2 tailbacks for this class and I think he sticks with that. It would be a blow if both Buck and Tre were to leave after this year, if only one of them leaves then SC could still have a strong duo with Justin Davis and whoever stays. Malik Lovette from Redlands East Valley has the kind of skill set which would fit well in this offense, I think the Trojans have a good shot there.
MJ (Davis, CA)
I envisioned Isaac having a stellar career in C&G. Wish him and his family well. I am concerned about the impact of this loss on the roster. Isaac is a unique talent and was one of the 13 recruits from the small but very talented class of two years ago. Are there any recruits -- in high school or JC level -- resembling Isaac's combination of size, hands, etc that Sarkissian and staff are trying to bring in?
Garry Paskwietz (5:38 PM)
Yeah, I thought Isaac had a bright future at SC as well. I know he had a strong relationship with the coach who recruited him, Kennedy Polamalu, and you wonder how much that impacted things on and off the field. The Trojans have an offer out to the #2 RB in the country, Jacques Patrick from Florida, and he is 6-3, 233.
Benvolio (Los Angeles)
Are you able to attend any of the player-lead summer sessions Garry? If so, could you give us a little more detailed description of what they look like?
Garry Paskwietz (5:40 PM)
We will be allowed to attend the throwing sessions when they get started back up in June. We will be allowed to video the sessions, so that will give an opportunity to watch the action, including the incoming players like Adoree' Jackson. We will also provide written recaps of what we see.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Who do you think will be the Best Trojan in the NFL as a Rookie?
Garry Paskwietz (5:40 PM)
Charlie White (Santa Margarita )
Heisman Trophy winner here. Garry over or under a running back winning the Heisman over the next 5 years or even 10 years? Bush Igram and Ron Dayne are the last 3 to win over 15 years.
Garry Paskwietz (5:43 PM)
Nobody did it better than C-dub #12. I'm still going to say yes that it will happen with a Heisman RB but the chances are getting slimmer as every year goes by. i also think at some point the pendulum swings back and the running game becomes in vogue again.
Kevin (Palm Desert)
Thoughts on why SC hasn't offered Fred Ulu-Perry yet? Strong, physical, nasty attitude looking guy.
Garry Paskwietz (5:46 PM)
I'm with you. I've been a fan of Fred's since I saw him at the Nike Camp in 2013 and I was impressed again this spring. He's the #5 OG in the country so obviously there is some kind of skill level there but so far no Trojan offer. He is the ideal candidate to go to the Rising Stars Camp to impress the coaches and come away with an offer.
Tony (Richmond, CA)
Which undrafted Trojans were picked up in free agency and where did they end up?
Garry Paskwietz (5:47 PM)
Grimble - Redskins, Graf - Eagles, Redd - Redskins, Bailey & Martinez - Seahawks, Uko - Saints, Breslin - 49'ers, Wright - Dolphins.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Who will Replace the Players who were Selected in the 2014 NFL Draft for USC?
Garry Paskwietz (5:49 PM)
Marqise Lee will step into primary receiver role and Darreus Rogers will be the other starter. Max Tuerk will replace Marcus Martin, the combination of Quinton Powell and Jabari Ruffin will take over for Kennard.
Macc (Windsor Ontario)
Hey Garry, all the talk lately is that DT Daniels' commitment may lead to a "large" avalanche of commitments to follow suit. Look into your chrystal ball for us and name three players you think will commit soon, and a signing day potential surprise.
Garry Paskwietz (5:50 PM)
It wouldn't surprise me at all to see this be a very good summer for the Trojans. I'll say Tyler Petite chooses SC, and I think Malik Lovette could decide to grab one of the RB spots. After that I'll say Noah Jefferson decides to join the DL. For a signing day surprise, I'll go with Fred Ulu-Perry getting an offer and accepting on the spot.
Daniel Huang (San Francisco)
Garry, thanks for all you do for WeAreSC. Can't say thanks enough.Anyways, the news of Ty Isaac transferring is kind of a tough pill to swallow, not only due to the needed depth at RB, but also because he was coming on strong late last season. Has this decision been brewing for a while? There didn't appear to be any rumblings so it's bit of a shock.
Garry Paskwietz (5:52 PM)
You're welcome. This news pretty much came out of the blue. We're going to look into it to see what more we can find out about what happened because as far as we knew Ty was planning come back next fall. i really think he has a chance to be a good running back.
Nicholas (La Mirada, CA)
Given all the running back talk today, what's the nature of Dale Morgan's knee injury? It seems like the recovery is taking longer even than an ACL tear. Is this the same knee that has bothered him since 2010? If so, it seems that would make him a candidate for a 6th year if he wants it.
Garry Paskwietz (5:54 PM)
I don't think we're going to know an update on D.J. until summer workouts, he will either be out there or he won't. He took part in a couple walk-throughs in the early part of spring but that was it, he wasn't seen on the field again. I really don't know what that means in terms of his status, just that we didn't see him. When I ran into him at the Elite 11 in January he said he was close to coming back and was ready to compete for a starting spot.
Are they having any regrets about offering Sills, and will he perhaps decommit and look elsewhere?
Garry Paskwietz (5:58 PM)
A big key here is that Sark didn't offer Sills so he kind of has a pass on this one. Sills knows the reality of the situation but he clearly still wants to be at SC. Sark is taking a look and I think he likes David's game more than he originally thought he would and there's a possibility Sills could still end up at SC. Clay Helton was at the ECA workout last week and we should know soon what's going to happen. If he doesn't end up at SC, David has some other very good options.
Garry Paskwietz (5:59 PM)
Thanks everyone for coming, that's all the time we have for today. See you all next week.
