Hey Everybody...just flying back in from Chicago where it was exciting as hell to be at Game 7 of Blackhawks-Kings and depressing to be a lifelong fan of the team that lost at home in OT...It was a complete nerve-wracking thrill until that deflection went into the net in OT to eliminate the champs. And it was heightened by going to the game with my friend Charles Barkley, who--and I'm anticipating the question many of you will have--has been a hockey watcher/fan since his days in Philly with the Sixers when he became pals with many Flyers players...So, we'll deal with Game 7 if anybody wants to and of course the NBA Finals...

If LeBron wins a third straight title, where would that put him with you? Is he surpassing Magic, Bird, Kareem, Wilt, etc.? How high ya got him? Thanks!
mike wilbon (2:32 PM)
Great question! I've been listening to the debate recently about LeBron and Larry Bird and who's better, and this would tie the two in NBA Championships with three each. Personally, its hard for me generationally to replace Bird or any of those guys on my personally list, but I gotta get over that. I guess I have to push LeBron past Bird, but Magic and Kareem. Oh, God no. Not even close. Kareem won 6 titles, Magic 5 and they, like LeBron, were transcendant, game-changing players...LeBron's got a way to go before catching them on my list...And Wilt, because you asked, stays higher on the list because of his personal impact on the game, the insane individual numbers, the 50-point average over a season...But it's one of those great barroom, Barber Shop arguments...
Embiid, Wiggins, or Parker?
mike wilbon (2:36 PM)
Depends on the team...I think most teams have Embiid, Wiggins and Parker in that order, from what I've heard this month talking to team executives...let me ask you this: If Utah had won the lottery, how would the Jazz execs not have been drooling over a black Morman from Duke with an all-court game like Parker's? I'm serious; it seemed like a perfect match...But not to be.

I have a sense of humor and im not trying to be dramatic but do you ever get tired of Tony K's lame sexual innuendos to begin the show? EVERY SHOW!!!!!
mike wilbon (2:45 PM)
Ha! A peek behind the scenes: Tony has ZERO idea what most of those references even are! You think Tony knows what Tinder is? OMG, I didn't know for the longest what it was and I'm like a 20-year-old compared to TK...Our producers are of another time and place, like TODAY...
Billy (Empire State of Mind)
If the Big Fundamental wins a 5th title, where does that put him with you? Top 7 or 8? Best big man behind Russell, Wilt and Kareem? Do you think Duncan is better than Olajuwon? Thanks!
mike wilbon (2:48 PM)
Love that question...Well, not ahead of Russell and Kareem, no...No!!! But he has to be ahead of Olajuwon...I just asked TK that question...I think we agree, that the length of Duncan's career, the sustained contention of his team...I think I put him ahead of Olajuwon, yes...And McHale and Elvin Hayes, who most of you have ZERO idea about, how great he was, simply because its a generational issue...But 5 titles over a 16-year period, and NEVER being out of serious contention is pretty incredible in this day and age...
So.... what does that make the Knicks, Lakers, and Celtics worth?
mike wilbon (2:51 PM)
How many people are calling up Adam Silver and saying, "I want that team and here's what I'm ready to offer." Are five or six guys out there offering $2 billion and driving up the market? You run out of billionaires at some point, even in this climate...If one of those teams was up for sale right now...ONE...I think we'd be looking at close to $3 billion...
Ryan (Ruff Buff)
Why does Larry Bird still have a job? Every move he made this year was a disaster.
mike wilbon (2:53 PM)
It EXACTLY was. You're so on the money about that. Trading Danny Granger for Evan Turner: 360 degrees of DISASTER. Bringing in Andrew Bynum: DISASTER...I think Bird hurt the team with his moves and people keep questioning Frank Vogel...That's insane.
You know who has to be fuming about this Finals rematch? Kobe Bryant. Both Duncan and LeBron are passing him and he looks to be done!
mike wilbon (2:54 PM)
They're younger...Well, LeBron is. Kobe's had his time. He's fuming because he spent an entire season on the sideline and couldn't play, and THAT's why he's Kobe Bryant...It ends for everybody at some point. Tim Duncan's time is near...And before you know it, since this is LeBron's 11th season, we'll be asking when the window is going to close shut on him...
James (Northeast, TN)
HAHA! That makes TK's sexual ramblings even funnier. Thanks for the insight!!!
mike wilbon (2:55 PM)
Yes! It does, doesn't it?
Michael W... Now, I believe Duncan WIN this title and gets his 5th.. with this being SAID... I want to give you my top 10 of all time and tell me if you agree or not.. in ORDER: MJ, Magic, Kobe, Jabber, Duncan, Russell, Bird, Shaq, Lebron, I.Thomas... Thomas is there DUE to because of him having to beat MJ, Bird, and Magic in their PRIME and Thomas didn't play with a lot of Hall of Famers in the making.. J.Dumars is.. and Rodman got going more so after the Pistons days.. or at the end of the Pistons RUN... I know your HIGH on Russell, he played in a time with only 8 teams, yes he did have to go through Racist times, but he didn't have the Media or the game wasn't as BIG as it is today, His talent didn't make the game be on TV at prime time.. it was Bird and Magic.. BOOM
mike wilbon (2:58 PM)
I don't have any beef at all with the guys you have in there, none. It's a limited pool to begin...I would probably go MJ/Russell/Magic/LeBron/Kobe/Kareem/Bird/Wilt/Oscar/Shaq/Duncan/Baylor...Did I pass 10? And I could change that list and put Isiah on it because I do believe he was truly great player...And Olajuwon could be on that list...And Mikan...
Has LeBron passed Kobe on your all time list?
Are people getting tired of Miami yet?
mike wilbon (3:00 PM)
I think people have finally stopped hating Miami. I think folks are finally accepting them to a degree...People are warming to LeBron, not the other way around. The hate seems to have subsided.
Billy ( Big Apple)
Hey Turkey, what's your excuse this time for making us wait? Not enough tissues to wipe away the tears from your Hawks? Lol And stop with the "I gotta go prepare with Kornheiser for PIT". Puhlease!!
mike wilbon (3:02 PM)
Flying from Chicago, Dope. And leave it to a New Yorker whose team hasn't won anything for 20 years to take shots at a team that's won two Cups in the last four years. And when it is time to go and prepare for PTI, like now, I will...LOL!
Brian (New Orleans)
I just realized the NBA finals format has been changed to 2-2-1-1-1. Do you like this or the old 2-3-2?
mike wilbon (3:05 PM)
I like 2-3-2 for my personal reasons...you get to spend one week in a place. This is just back-and-forth across the country and nobody will like it BUT it is probably fairer. 2-3-2 is so difficult for the team with the 3 in the middle. At one point NO home team had won 3 straight at home...even if you go 2-1 you can't close out the series at home unless you win 4-1...It's so difficult, and probably unfair, which is why the league finally did away with it...
Do you consider OKC a failure this year? It would be rough to declare a team that made it to the conference finals a failure, but they arguably have the best scoring tandem in the league.
mike wilbon (3:06 PM)
I don't. OKC lost to the best team in the league this year. The Spurs are better, particularly with Ibaka missing the first two games. OKC lost in 6 games to a team that is simply better.
mike wilbon (3:08 PM)
Okay, NOW I have to run and prepare for PTI...We've got a ton of stuff to talk about, from Game 7 in Chicago to Tim Duncan saying, "We want Miami" to Kevin Love showing up in Boston to hang out and starting rumors there...Lots of stuff...Thanks for chatting...Have a great week! See you from the Finals...MW
Tony (Richmond, CA)
Everyone talks about Lebron James and what a third ring would meant to his legacy. But what does a 4th ring with the same franchise do for Dwyane Wade?
mike wilbon (3:09 PM)
Ooooh, this is a great P.S. It's a much shorter list, players with 4 titles...Wade does up the list, for sure...And he'll have earned it because Miami isn't going to win without him at least at an A-minus level for the series...MW
