Nick is getting of the radio right now, and he'll be here shortly. Thanks for your patience.
Nick Friedell (1:41 PM)
What's happening everybody? Let's get this chat rolling ...
Hey Nick,I hate how people are saying we need to break up the team and trade boozer and noah for Dwight. We won 62 games people to need to lighten up. My question is, who do you think is the best shooting guard out there for the bulls? i would say oj mayo
Nick Friedell (1:43 PM)
I don't think the organization is ready to break up this team any time soon, so I wouldn't worry about that too much. I think the Bulls would take Mayo, but my guess is that they'll try to sign a guy like Jason Richardson after the lockout ends ... if they can clear out enough space.
Nick, If or should i say WHEN Boozer lays another egg this year, do you think Forman will try and trade him? Dude is lead footed and gives up much more points on the defensive end then he puts up on the offensive end. Thanks
Nick Friedell (1:45 PM)
Boozer isn't going anywhere for the moment, guys. Sorry. Aside from the fact he's coming off a subpar season (for his standards) why would any team pick up that contract even if Forman wanted to deal him.
Hi Mr Friedell. I was wondering, are the bulls going to trade anyone or any of their picks in this draft? I heard rumors about Noah being traded out. Whats your opinion on that?
Nick Friedell (1:47 PM)
Noah isn't going anywhere right now. Will the Bulls make a deal tonight? Gar has said repeatedly that they will keep both picks, but it wouldn't surprise me if they dealt one of them if there isn't a guy that they really like.
Conrad (Wpg, Mb, Canada)
What are the chances that we see the Bulls trade for a veteran player tonight? Wilbon in his recent ESPN Chicago article really pushed the idea of getting an impact veteran to compete with the Heat.
Nick Friedell (1:48 PM)
I don't think anything big will happen tonight. I am convinced the Bulls will add another two guard, but that won't happen until after the lockout ends.
Hey Nick, nice job on the Bulls review...I liked the everyday player analysis. Why haven't the bulls talked to the Magic about D. Howard. We all know he won't stay there. Imagine him paired with Rose. If I was the bulls management I would call the Magic and ask them who they want except D. Rose. What do you think: Noah/Boozer this year and next year draft picks for Howard and Arenas?
Nick Friedell (1:52 PM)
Kon, Glad you enjoyed the reviews. I think everybody should forget the Howard to the Bulls possibilities right now, though. I've said it before and I will say it again ... I don't think there's any way the Magic trade Howard within the Eastern Conference. He would have a chance to beat them four times a year. If he goes anywhere, my guess is that he'll go west.
Erik (Merchandies Mart)
Hey Nick, good stuff as always. I thought Thibs would have shown off a better arm last night throwing out the first pitch. Your thoughts?
Nick Friedell (1:54 PM)
Yeah, I couldn't believe he didn't even go to the rubber. He was just glad he didn't bounce it up there -- a la John Wall.
Hey Nick! What is the verdict on Keith Bogans? Do you think the Bulls will bring him back for next season??
Nick Friedell (1:57 PM)
I think the team is trying to figure that out as we speak. The Bulls have an option on Bogans that they must decide whether or not to pick up. The bottom line is that they know Bogans was the weak link in the starting lineup -- if he does come back, I think it will be in a reserve role this time around.
Pat Riley (Miami)
Bosh for Boozer? You think Gar would be up for it?
Nick Friedell (1:58 PM)
Gar would. I don't think you are, Pat.
Hey Nick. I love your work. What's the biggest question mark facing this team next season? Is it involving Taj more in the game, is it trying to find that 2 guard to take the heat off of D-Rose, is it a combination of Taj playing more and then Boozer finding it too, or something else?
Nick Friedell (2:00 PM)
It's got to be finding another perimeter scorer to go alongside Rose. Derrick was worn down in the Eastern Conference Finals and it was clear that he didn't have another scorer to pass it off to on the floor. The Bulls have to find a veteran 2-guard who can help him out.
Don (Syracuse, NY)
Hey Nick. I was wondering with the new labor agreement looming in the NBA how is it even possible for the Bulls to agree in principle to any trades not knowing what the "salary cap" situation is going to be? I know that the Bulls have a pretty high cap number and with Rose due to get a raise in the near future how would the team be able to make any moves? Thanks
Nick Friedell (2:02 PM)
Don, That's why I don't think the Bulls will make any kind of big deals tonight. There is too much uncertainty with the new CBA.
You guys are stupid. How was Bogans the weak link in are starting lineup? He shut down D Wade the whole series and hit many situantional threes to put us in good spots to take big leads. Yet he never got to play in crunch time and gets blamed for the losses against the Heat? Doesnt make sense. Guys like Boozer who are just terrible players defensively and offensively dont get blamed at all. Bogans should come back next year. Boozer probley shouldnt.
Nick Friedell (2:04 PM)
Boozer doesn't get blamed at all? Really? Boozer got crushed for the way he played. But there's no question Bogans was the weak link throughout the year. Sure, he hit a couple three pointers, and yes, he is a solid defender. He also probably led the league in wide open misses from beyond the arc. The Bulls need to find a more consistent offensive threat.
Scottie Pippen (Chicago, Il)
Have Bulls fans forgiving me?
Nick Friedell (2:04 PM)
Ben (River Forest)
Nick what do you think about Shelvin Mack from Butler? I am a Chicago native and a Butler Alum. I was in school for all three years Mack was there and I'm probably a little biased but I don't think there is a better fit for the Bulls considering where they are picking. He's a very capable back up point guard and can play the 2 if the bulls decide to go small. He has incredible range and if he works on his three point shot like Rose did for a year look out. Most importantly he comes from a program in Butler that is very much like the Bulls program. Defense first, attention to detail, team oriented basketball, and they played team offense. He has a great work ethic and is a great guy to plug into this team's chemistry.
Nick Friedell (2:08 PM)
Ben, he definitely fits a lot of the criteria the Bulls like. He's a guy some team will definitely take a chance on -- my only concern would be is he big enough (at around 6'2) and fast enough to contribute consistently. We will see -- but like a lot of guys, I think he is on the Bulls radar.
Eric (Dublin, Ireland)
Hey Nick. Just wondering if the Bulls took a guard with their first pick, which of the potential picks available do you think could step in and make the biggest impact right away without much of a learning curve/adjustment period?
Nick Friedell (2:11 PM)
Eric, No matter who the Bulls select tonight, I don't think they will make much of an impact nest season. Guys like Singler, Parsons, Harper, etc. would probably help out a little sooner given that they were in college all four years -- but, I don't expect any of these guys to get a lot of rotational minutes next year, especially for the first few months.
Keith (Morton Grove)
Nick, no doubt Thibs did an outstanding job turning this team into one of the leagues elite. I love his emotion and the never satisfied demeanor he displays on the sideline. How much does his defensive know-it-all play a factor in their draft picks tonight. In other words, will the Bulls draft an athletic, offensive weapon with some defensive issues and rely on Thibs defensive tutoring and discipline to turn the prospect into the two way player the Bulls desperately need at the off guard position?
Nick Friedell (2:15 PM)
Any guy the Bulls select tonight will have to be able to play some defense. They will also have to be a guy who is "coachable" because Thibs isn't going to want to hold a rookie's hand all season and walk them through everything step by step.
Nick Friedell (2:18 PM)
All right guys, I am out of here. I will talk to you guys, tomorrow. We'll chat again tomorrow at 12:30.
