Nick Friedell (3:37 PM)
Hello from the United Center everybody ... let's get this thing going ...
Which question do you get more often: "When is Rose coming back" or "Are we amnestying Boozer?"
Nick Friedell (3:39 PM)
The Rose question has been dominating over the last couple months ...
Why don't they just say Rose is not coming back. Be a horrible idea to bring him back now anyways. Rose is out for year okay move on! Why break the chemistry and surging confidence in Jimmy Butler?!
Nick Friedell (3:49 PM)
I don't understand it either. I think the organization would be better served to do that but they just think it's better to keep all the options open. Thibs has talked about that repeatedly in the last few weeks.
Lewis (Carbondale, IL)
How will the Bulls fare against the Knicks tonight?
Nick Friedell (3:49 PM)
I actually think the Bulls could win tonight. Both teams are injured -- the Bulls always seem to get up for these big games.
If Rose doesn't play the rest of the regular season, is there a realistic chance he comes back for Game 1 of the playoffs?
Nick Friedell (3:50 PM)
I don't think so -- but the organization is still holding out hope.
What do you think is more realistic to do with Deng: trade him or try and resign him when his contract is over (and do you think he'd sign at a discount)?
Nick Friedell (3:51 PM)
If he wants to stay with the Bulls he's going to have to sign for a discount. The Bulls would like to keep him but they will absolutely consider dealing him in the summer if the right pieces appear from another team.
devin (chicago) [via mobile]
I think jimmy is the answer for our 2 guard if lu still stays i think he will develop more of a 3pt shot and his defense is on point and derrick and jimmy on the fast break will be sick!!! Do you think he is what we have been looking for?
Nick Friedell (3:54 PM)
I actually think Butler would be a better long term fit at the 3. I think the Bulls would be better served to look for a powerful two guard who can create his own shot and then move Butler over once Deng leaves or is traded.
Josh (San Diego)
What's our most valuable trade asset as of today? Jimmy Butler, Mirotic, or the Charlotte pick?
Nick Friedell (3:56 PM)
Good question. I actually think it would be Jimmy right now because he is a known quantity. There is a chance Mirotic still may not come over and nobody knows when and where exactly that Bobcats pick will be used.
Farhan (Los Angeles)
If the Bobcats buy out Ben Gordon this summer, would the Bulls have interest in bringing him back on the cheap?
Nick Friedell (3:57 PM)
I think the Bulls will have interest in anyone who is willing to take a minimum deal.
Is Joakim Noah out for the playoffs?
Nick Friedell (3:59 PM)
No. I think Jo will be back in time for the playoffs.
James- West Coast [via mobile]
If we trade Deng in the summer, what can we expect to get for him?
Nick Friedell (4:02 PM)
That's the $13 million dollar question. I don't know how much of a market there is for Deng. He is a solid player, two-time All-Star -- but he's also a system player. How many teams would give up a young piece or a draft pick to acquire a guy who many only be around for one year?
Paul (Naperville) [via mobile]
Do you think the Bulls can still go after Lebron or Bosh when they become free agents?
Nick Friedell (4:03 PM)
I am sure they will.
Do you think the Bulls could get Kyle Korver back next year?
Nick Friedell (4:07 PM)
Yes, I do. I think they would love to have him. But it all depends on what he would be willing to sign for. The Bulls aren't going to have much cap space at all this summer.
Thibs recently said that out of everyone (Noah, Taj, Rose, etc.) Rip was the furthest from coming back. Now that Rip is back, is it reasonable to expect everyone else to be close too?
Nick Friedell (4:11 PM)
No. I just think Thibs likes to play with the media sometimes. I don't think the other injured players are any closer than they were before.
If we were fully healthy (Rose, Rip, everyone) do you think we could take Miami to 7 games this year?
Nick Friedell (4:12 PM)
I don't ... but a lot of people within the Bulls organization do.
Would it be worth it for the Bulls to hang on to Boozer for another year for the price that he is at and try to keep the team they have now mostly intact to see what they can do with Rose in the mix or is Boozer just not worht it.
Nick Friedell (4:15 PM)
The Bulls are absolutely keeping Boozer for another year. It's a year and a half from now when I think the amnesty hammer is going to fall.
Has rose felt betrayed by the fans of the bulls or as a whole does he feel the fans are behind him 100%
Nick Friedell (4:18 PM)
Derrick knows what's been going on. He knows that some fans have started to turn on him. I think he (and the people around him) also know that if he comes back and starts scoring 20 a game again people will forget about this year.
Farhan (Los Angeles)
It's struck me as odd that Rose has only sat once on the bench this entire season. Do you get the sense that teammates are unhappy about it? Almost feels like he's trying to distance himself from the team.
Nick Friedell (4:19 PM)
His teammates aren't mad at him at all about this. They're usually in the back with him.
Mark (Pasadena, CA)
We knew going into the season that the Bulls weren't going to seriously contend, and it's been excruciating to watch them at times. (Fortunately we also have the Blackhawks, who are an absolute pleasure to watch.) As expected, it's all about waiting for The Return. Looking to the future, what do you think the team looks like next year? Butler is a keeper for sure, and we know it's going to be RIP Rip. Nate and Vlad probably will be gone, too. Belinelli stays and comes off the bench. But does Butler start at SG? Do they trade Deng and have Butler start at SF? How do you see all of this shaking out?
Nick Friedell (4:22 PM)
The only certainties for next season are Rose, Noah, Deng, Boozer Gibson Butler and Teague. After that it's a crapshoot. Like last year, Gar and Pax will look to fill the rest of the roster with cheap contracts given their cap situation.
Josh Kingston, TN [via mobile]
Do you feel the onslaught of injuries is due to the increased play time that most of the team has seen this year?
Nick Friedell (4:23 PM)
Yes, I think that's a major part of it.
Why are you the person most against the Bulls doing anything. I remember when the Bulls meet Miami two years ago in the playoffs. And you were still picking Miami. You should be the beat reporter for the HEAT not the Bulls. We don't need your type of negativity around this city.
Nick Friedell (4:24 PM)
Ha. I'm paid to be a reporter ... not a fan.
Hey Nick, how are the Bulls gonna get Carter-Williams in the draft?
Nick Friedell (4:25 PM)
I don't think it's going to happen, Rock. The Bulls already have Teague locked in as the backup point guard -- but you never know.
Vince cherry [via mobile]
How far of a post season run can the bulls make without Derrick rose even if the other parts of the team are healthy an can play
Nick Friedell (4:27 PM)
I think the Bulls can get to the second round if they face Brooklyn. I think the second round is the ceiling for this team, though. Especially if they see Miami after Brooklyn.
What us the status of Gibson?
Nick Friedell (4:28 PM)
Thibs says he's still day to day. I think he's going to be out a little while longer.
Hi Nick! I think Jimmy Butler deserve his own chant. It needs to be like the rudy chant, JIMMY!, JIMMY!, JIMMY! ... I can hear it now after and-1s and dunks ... Would you agree?
Nick Friedell (4:29 PM)
Mark, I'm leaving this in your hands ... you can be in charge of making this happen. If the UC crowd gets louder for this than they do for the Donuts race I'll be impressed.
Nick Friedell (4:30 PM)
I'm out of here everybody. If you're at a game this week come over and say hello. Talk to you later.
