Why didn't the Cowboys go after R. Moore in the 2nd round?
Bryan Broaddus (4:03 PM)
Good afternoon everyone. I hope that everyone got thru the draft well and are ready for Football to get out of the court room and on to the field. Will start with why the Boys didnt draft Rahim Moore S UCLA. When he came on his pre draft visit there were those that were not impressed with their one on one sit down with him and they felt like there were players on their board that better fit their plans.
Darin (Land Of Enchantment)
I loved it that the Cowboys drafted 3 OL but was disapointed that they didn't get any help on the D-line or secondary. Do you think Jerry will be willing to spend some money in free agency and sign some big time FA?
Bryan Broaddus (4:04 PM)
I know they have already graded the players for when FA starts. I would not be one bit surprised to see the Cowboys target some players that are better fits than players they could have drafted
Bryan, with the pick of demarco murray does that spell the end of barber, or choice (murray 4.3 speed and can run and catch) blitz pick up is iffy but can he be injury free..
Bryan Broaddus (4:06 PM)
Jerry told us that he and the staff have talked about what needs to be done but do not have to make any moves now. Would not be shocked to see that come down once the league year starts again. Colombo and Barber would be my guess.
Bryan, if bruce carter was to get healthy for the start of the season who would he replace brooking at outside or spencer...
Bryan Broaddus (4:08 PM)
Carter will be an ILB. He has played all the LBer positions at North Carolina and I was really impressed with the way he ran to the ball but was worried some as a wrap up tackler.
Jeff (Dayton, Ohio)
What did the Cowboys see in Bill Nagy that Wisconsin and other NFL teams did not?
Bryan Broaddus (4:10 PM)
They like his toughness and position flexibility. Can line up at C or OG. Anytime that you can be a swing guy like that it helps your numbers on game day. Sam Young will do the same at both OT spots.
T. Webb (Oak Harbor, WA)
Other than Tyron Smith, which of our draft picks do you see contributing the most this year?
Bryan Broaddus (4:12 PM)
I really do like Murray. Everytime I was studying a defensive player against Oklahoma, he was running the ball down hill hard at someone. His hands are outstanding as well. Interested to see if they can make him a good pass blocker on 3rd downs
Jeff (Dayton, Ohio)
Hey Bryan! Does the Arkin pick spell the end of Kosier's time as Cowboy? Basically, will the Cowboys plug Holland into Kosier's spot for a year and then move Arkin into that spot in 2012? It saves the Cowboys money by not resigning Kosier now and Holland after next season.
Bryan Broaddus (4:14 PM)
I think you have a very clear view of what the plan is. They will do their best to get these young OLmen ready as fast as they can.
WILL COWBOYS GO AFTER D.B.'S IN FREE AGENCY
Bryan Broaddus (4:15 PM)
YES I THINK THE COWBOYS WILL GO AFTER A DB IN FREE AGENCY. MOST LIKELY A SAFETY. GEAUX TIGERS IN EUNICE...
Bryan, how good could this OL be if they gel down the stretch for a playoff run with their rookies and if they kept colombo as insurance if a tackle went down and not do another flozell type see ya who could still play....
Bryan Broaddus (4:18 PM)
I am really looking forward to watching the play of Tyron Smith. He is such a smooth athlete. Too me he gives Jason Garrett and this staff so much scheme flexiability. With Free on the left side and Smith on the right, really make a difference on offense.
What are your thoughts on the Bruce Carter pick?
Bryan Broaddus (4:21 PM)
I studied Bruce Carter and really liked the way that he moved but he also never came off the field. He was a three down player. If he can get healthy and pair him with Sean Lee, you have two linebackers that have a nose for the ball.
Do you think Bruce Carter can succeed where Bobby Carpenter and Jason Williams failed? Do you think he has the physicality of an inside linebacker?
Bryan Broaddus (4:23 PM)
Carter is not afraid of contact. In the Clemson game, I saw him take on blockers on the edge with the correct shoulder and force the play back inside.
Craig (Denton, TX)
How could the Cowboys not address the secondary in the first 3 rounds of the draft...and not even 1 DE? I love the Tyron Smith pick but they didn't really address the problems in the secondary. Are they just hoping they can find someone whenever free agency starts?..................if.....it....starts
Bryan Broaddus (4:25 PM)
I am surprised that they didnt draft a corner in the middle of the draft. I really like Burton from Utah and Lindsey from Southern Illinois. In my humble view, both of these guys could have helped.
Fuscious_Jones (Charleston, S.C.)
Love the work Bryan. Once the league year starts, what do you think about the S from Rutgers, Joseph Lefeged as a priority undrafted free agent for the Boys? And on another note, how about a 5th round pick in this year's supplementary draft for CB Janoris Jenkins from Florida. I know he has character issues, but that's top 15 talent right there. Keep up the good work!!!
Bryan Broaddus (4:29 PM)
I am trying to find out now about Lefeged of Rutgers, maybe before we leave today I will have an answer. This team under Garrett is not about high character guys, dont know if you would see them go after Jenkins even in the 5th round
Rick (Rhode Island)
You've always said you thought Orlando Scandrick would become a free safety at some point. Do you see some of those same qualities in Josh Thomas?
Bryan Broaddus (4:31 PM)
I am going into my lab tonight and do some work on Josh Thomas. I do not know the player that well and I want to learn. I do believe that one day Scandrick will play safety for this team.
How do you feel about the O-Line now after the draft?
Bryan Broaddus (4:33 PM)
I love the fact they were able to get the best offensive tackle in this draft. I really liked the Rackley kid that the Jags took...thought he would have made a nice addition as a OG.
Mike (Oklahoma City)
some undrafted free agents we need to sign...CB Kendric Burney, North Carolina, OLB Mark Herzlich, Boston College, S Deunta Williams, North Carolina, S Jeron Johnson, Boise State, QB Scott Tolzien, Wisconsin, C Jake Kirkpatrick, TCU, DE Pierre Allen, Nebraska, DT Ian Williams, Notre Dame, C Kris O'Dowd, USC, DT Adrian Taylor, Oklahoma....thoughts?
Bryan Broaddus (4:34 PM)
Of this list of players that you have crafted, I really like Kirkpatrick the Center from TCU.
JJ (Newtown, CT)
Hi Bryan - Do you think the Cowboys "reached" by taking Arkin in the 4th round? Thanks
Bryan Broaddus (4:36 PM)
Like I said, Rackley OT Lehigh will be moved inside to OG. I have a much better feel for him than I do Arkin. Again, time in the lab this evening will help me.
JD (Arlintgon, TX)
I know everyone was concentrating on the draft this weekend, but I've heard very little on the biggest issue facing the Cowboys: The Dez "No-Show"! I saw him tweeting about "modeling", or some crap, on Friday, so he was out and about, but I guess he didn't feel like going to work. Has anything come of this? This could/should be a big deal. Thanks.
Bryan Broaddus (4:39 PM)
Its never easy with Dez. I know that guys in the building were hoping to get to see him but it didnt workout now the players are once again locked out. One day, I hope he grows up.
Trent (Dallas, TX)
I keep hearing everyone mentioning that the Cowboys didn't take and DE's in the draft, but isn't it true that in a 3-4, ends really just take on blockers rather than make plays?
Bryan Broaddus (4:41 PM)
The guys that they were talking about drafting at DE Watt and Jordan make plays.
with the way the cowboys drafted, do you think they are preparing to go after huff and namdi whenever free agency starts? Thanks
Bryan Broaddus (4:45 PM)
I will say this about Huff, of all the vet safeties that were on the street Sanders etc...he was the best one that I saw. Can see playing him at free and if they like one of those young kids at Strong, that might be a nice fit.
John (Houston, TX)
The Cowboy's defense was soooo bad last year, but actually pretty good the year before. Isn't it true that our defense (mainly the secondary) just played really poorly last year? I mean, there weren't that many changes from the previous year and the results seemed to be very different.
Bryan Broaddus (4:48 PM)
Jenkins, Ball, Spencer played poorly. Newman was fine in the begining and then got banged up bad, Brooking and Ratlif were not as good as the year before. If they can find two safeties, get Jenkins and Spencer back on track and resign Bowen at DE, Rob Ryan will make them better.
Bryan Broaddus (4:50 PM)
Hey Guys...thats all the time I have today...make sure you continue to follow us all at ESPN Dallas as we cover this team like it should be. I am off to the lab to get a little smarter...thanks for your questions and time.
