SportsNation Blog Archives Doug Fister
Doug Fister is a lucky guy. Sure, he took the loss as the Tigers dropped Game 2 in San Francisco. But the Detroit right-hander apparently escaped serious injury after Gregor Blanco's second-inning line drive hit him on the head and bounced into center field for a base hit. Observers on Twitter were relieved he wasn't hurt and surprised he stayed in the game. Does he deserve recognition for not only shaking it off, but pitching six scoreless innings before leaving the game?
Fister took that liner like a champ. Straight to the melon and into shallow center. I think I know who I want to be for Halloween.— Mike Commodore (@commie22) October 26, 2012
strangely, that seemed to hurt us more than it did fister. his dome must be titanium. i'd still be crying.— Bomani Jones (@bomani_jones) October 26, 2012
Giants starter Madison Bumgarner also caught a lucky break in the second, when the Tigers' Prince Fielder was thrown out at the plate on Delmon Young's double. Major league players on Twitter didn't second-guess the Tigers for sending Fielder home. But they did critique his slide.
Nice relay, .but a slide to the back of the plate and Posey cant reach him....... 1-0 tigers— Jimmy Rollins (@JimmyRollins11) October 26, 2012
Kids at home, slide straight into the plate. Touch it with your front foot.— Michael Cuddyer (@mcuddy3) October 26, 2012
