Drafting a running back in the first round is risky business. If you don't believe us, just ask Rashaan Salaam, Blair Thomas, Tim Biakabutuka or Ron Dayne. Assuming you can find them, that is.
But the thought of landing the next Adrian Peterson or LaDainian Tomlinson will undoubtedly lead at least a team or two to invest in this year's crop of runners before the end of the first round. That's where Todd McShay and Mel Kiper enter the equation (to analyze the candidates; we're not sure either guru has the 40-time to get to the corner in a NFL backfield).
By far the biggest bone of contention seems to be with Heisman runner-up Toby Gerhart. Neither Kiper nor McShay includes him in their top five, but 54 percent of SportsNation thinks the former Stanford star will be a successful No. 1 back in the NFL.
