Scotty4489: "All catchers need to be told not to block the plate. It's one of those things that used to not happen often, but made a big splash when it did and suddenly people started thinking of it as "what the tough guys do" and suddenly every catcher had to do it every time or they were a sissy. It's just silly, tagging a runner is better most times. And let's be fair, the reason Posey got hurt was he went for the block instead of the tag and got in too late, couldn't square off and set himself and took the shot from Cousins at a bad angle."
RynoStros: "It's like slamming on the brakes accidentally when switching from standard to automatic. It's instinct. He will continue to block the plate, he will continue to be awesome, and he will continue to get hurt like every catcher does, both minor and major."
Traumor: "Man, I thought only the NHL and the NFL were getting wussified. This sets a terrible precedent. Every player who plays at this level accepts the risk involved. For some (like Brian Urlacher), the sport is more important than your family. I'm getting real tired of the leagues going around trying to protect the players from themselves."
BNarc41: "What's next , if Lincecum blows out his arm, they ask him to pitch under hand? Catchers are meant to protect the plate. What happened to real baseball?"
Raynor54: "Very smart of the Giants to realize that the risk of losing an All-Star catcher to a serious injury is significantly greater than the reward of stopping a single run."
