The NHL is proposing big changes with its latest realignment plan, which would return the league to four divisions (from its current six) and tweak the postseason format so that the Stanley Cup playoffs would begin with intradivision matchups. The arrangement keeps some rivalries together -- Canadiens vs. Bruins and Flyers vs. Penguins, to name two -- but splits up others, such as Blackhawks vs. Red Wings, by grouping Detroit with other Eastern time zone teams. While the tentative division names appear to be geographically challenged -- Boston isn't "Central" on any map we've ever seen -- it does bring the league back to the days when divisional familiarity bred more contempt. Do you think it's an improvement?
