Grant Hill was on his way to becoming one of the NBA's best before his career was derailed by a series of ankle injuries. He was a two-time NCAA champion at Duke and won a gold medal at the Atlanta Games in 1996, yet never reached the NBA Finals in his 19-year pro career. But Hill, who retired on Saturday, earned the widespread respect and admiration of former teammates and competitors, who praised him on Twitter following the announcement.
