Jennifer Brady, an American qualify, reached her first round-of-16 at a major Saturday at the Australian Open. Afterward, she was asked what it means to her: "Yeah, usually I'm just there the first couple of days, and, you know, it's pretty hectic. [Now], it's actually pretty nice. The cafe is not so crowded."

Trivia note of the day in the wait for Serena to take the court vs Nicole Gibbs: Venus and Serena played each other for the first time as pros 19 years ago today here at the Australian Open in a second- round match, with Venus winning in straight sets, 7-6 (4) 6-1. They're on opposite sides of the draw here, so if they're going to have a 28th career meeting, it would have to come in the final next Saturday night. It's not a crazy scenario. Venus, now 36, has been playing very well. World No. 1 and defending champ Angelique Kerber is on her side of the draw. Could be interesting if Venus's chronic fatigue problems don't flare up.
