MELBOURNE, Australia -- A British man arrested at the Australian Open over a gambling-related offense has been released on bail and allowed to return to England.
Daniel Thomas Dobson, 22, was arrested on Jan. 16 and is accused of using a hidden electronic device to send live point details from a tennis match to his British employer, Sporting Data Limited.
Dobson was charged with one count of engaging in conduct that would corrupt a betting outcome. His lawyers deny the charge.
The Australian Associated Press reported that Melbourne magistrate Gerard Lethbridge released Dobson on bail on the condition he is to reside with his father, who is a detective inspector with the Metropolitan Police.
