KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus defeated sixth-seeded Alex Bogomolov Jr. 7-6 (3), 6-4 Monday in the first round of the Malaysian Open.
The 60th-ranked Baghdatis broke serve against the Russian-born American in the second set for the only break of the match.
Seventh-seeded Dmitry Tursunov of Russia eliminated Paul Capdeville of Chile 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 in a match that ended past midnight. The 41st-ranked Tursunov improved to 4-0 against Capdeville.
In the other first-round match, David Goffin of Belgium beat Matthew Ebden of Australia 6-4, 7-6 (4).
