The NCAA has granted University of Houston officials a special waiver to begin distributing donated T-shirts and tennis shoes to people affected by Hurricane Harvey, including high school student-athletes. Cougars athletics director Hunter Yurachek told ESPN that NCAA executive vice president of regulatory affairs Oliver Luck sent him a text message on Saturday morning to notify him that the waiver had been granted.

Mississippi State has lots of company. Since UConn WBB won its first national championship in 1995, eight other teams besides Bulldogs also have beaten Huskies in NCAA tournament but did NOT go on to win title: NC State ('98), Iowa State ('99), Stanford ('05 and '08), Duke ('06), LSU ('07), Notre Dame ('11 and '12). The teams since '95 that beat UConn in tournament *and* then won NCAA title: Tennessee ('96 and '97), Notre Dame ('01). UConn 11-0 in NCAA finals.

Dawn Staley said that the two things she saw in basketball from a young age was women playing for national championships and Olympic gold medals. Schaefer said that he felt that Jazzmun Holmes was playing well and just decided to keep going with her rather than bring William back. His intention was to only have William on the bench for a few minutes, but elected to ride with Holmes once she started playing well. Holmes did finish with 6 points and no turnovers in 17 minutes. William had 8 points, but just two in the second half, and four assists.
