Junior guard had sought fifth year

STANFORD, Calif. -- Stanford has dismissed point guard JJ Hones from the program for a violation of team rules.

Coach Tara VanDerveer announced the decision on Monday. Hones was a fourth-year junior who had hoped to come back for a fifth year if healthy next season. Hones had microfracture surgery on her left knee after last season.

Hones played 98 games in her Stanford career despite missing all or parts of two seasons with left knee injuries. She played in two national championship games and averaged 5.4 points and 3.0 assists per game in her career.
