Forward Howard transferring to Mississippi State

Anriel Howard, a 5-foot-11 senior forward, is joining Mississippi State as a grad transfer from Texas A&M, it was announced Friday. Howard also considered other schools, including UConn and South Carolina.

A&M center Martin charged with injury to elderly

Texas A&M has suspended center Caylinne Martin after the 6-foot-3 junior and her twin sister, Corinne, were charged with felony injury to the elderly relating to a Christmas Eve altercation in Houston.

No. 1 seed Notre Dame survived a tough test from Texas A&M in the regional semifinals in Spokane, winning 90-84 to advance to Monday's final against the winner of Oregon and Central Michigan. The Fighting Irish got a combined 52 points from their backcourt of Arike Ogunbowale (27) and Marina Mabrey (25, including a career-high seven 3-pointers), shooting 53 percent as a team. The Aggies saw freshman Chennedy Carter follow up her game-winning shot to send the team to the Sweet 16 with 31 points and seven assists, while Anriel Howard had a double-double of 26 points and 14 rebounds.

Notre Dame has answered the challenge from Texas A&M, rallying from a two-point halftime deficit to open up a five-point lead through three quarters in Spokane. Hot shooting from Marina Mabrey has been huge for the Irish. Mabrey has seven 3-pointers, beating the career high of six she set during the opening round of the NCAA tournament against CSU Northridge. Her 25 points are two shy of a season high and four away from her career high.

Notre Dame, Oregon will collide in Elite Eight

The top-seeded Irish didn't lose their composure after trailing No. 4 Texas A&M by double digits, while the No. 2 Ducks were never really threatened by surprising 11-seed Central Michigan.

High-level offensive basketball in the first half in Spokane. Despite scoring 1.25 points per possession, No. 1 seed Notre Dame trails No. 4 seed Texas A&M 47-45. The Aggies managed better than 1.3 points per possession. Texas A&M guard Chennedy Carter powered the attack with 15 points and four assists, while Marina Mabrey kept the Irish in it with five first-half 3-pointers -- one shy of her career high.

There's a strong contingent of Texas A&M fans in Spokane and they liked what they saw in the first quarter as the Aggies took a 26-19 lead over top-seeded Notre Dame behind eight points and two assists from Chennedy Carter.
