Classic Fiesta Bowl Moments

It all began on Dec. 27, 1971 when Arizona State President G. Homer Durham's proposal came to fruition with the first-ever Fiesta Bowl. In front of a partisan crwod of 51,809 fans, Arizona State edged Florida State at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Ariz. Since that first game, the Fiesta Bowl has moved to New Year's Day and become home to a number of classic bowl clashes.

1971 - Arizona State 45, Florida State 38  More
Three years after Arizona State President G. Homer Durham proposed the idea, the first Fiesta Bowl took place on Dec. 27, 1971, at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Ariz. The partisan crowd of 51,809 went home happy, as ASU edged Florida State 45-38.

The 1984 Fiesta Bowl pitted Earle Bruce's Ohio State Buckeyes against Foge Fazio's Pittsburgh Panthers in an unusually cold day in Tempe, Ariz., in front of a crowd of 66,484 frigid fans.
