The Pushdown is a Premium ad unit that, like the Banner, appears just under the main site navigation and can expand in size. The behavior of the ad is the auto expanded state appears for :08 and then auto collapses. The ad may be re-expanded.

Animation/Ad Behavior
- The ad will auto-expand on first view for 8 seconds before auto-closing.
- Rotational Pushdown placements cannot auto-expand; user-initiated expands only.
- Expansion direction is downward and must push the page content, not overlay.
- User-initiated expansion must occur on click and may remain open without auto-collapse.
- The collapsed state may have up to 20 seconds of animation with no more than three loops within that limit.
Design Restrictions
- In-house served assets (static image Pushdowns only) will have the close button added automatically. The top-right 35x35 pixel area of the creative should be clear of text, logos, and imagery. Separate images for the expand and collapsed states must be provided (see spec table above).
- Third-party served assets must include the ESPN close button in the upper-right corner. Button sprite sheets are available for download:
- Any variations of this button or custom buttons must be approved prior to launch.
Capping
Auto-expand must be capped at one time per user per day.
Video
- Creative with in-banner video must be third-party served.
- Auto-play video cannot utilize YouTube's embedded player.
- Video in the auto-expand (for XL and L profiles) must not exceed the 8-second expand time and is limited to 1.1MB.
- User-initiated video must not exceed 20MB for the XL and L profile, 5 MB for the M and S profile.
- Video files must include "Play", "Pause", and "Mute" functions at minimum.
- Audio must be user-initiated only on click.
- Video file weights are for video only, separate from the rest of the creative.
HTTPS Compatibility
- All creative, including third-party tags and third-party tracking tags, must use secure protocol (HTTPS).
- Any creative that is not fully secure will be sent back for revisions.
Third-Party Tag
HTML5 Pushdown creative can only be served via an approved third-party vendor.
Submission Deadline
Please allow five business days for testing and approval.
Restrictions
- Ad profiles cannot be sold on an individual basis. Creative must be submitted for each profile outlined above.
- DoubleClick Studio creative are not supported.
Additional Info
- This execution utilizes ESPN's Universal Ad Package (UAP).
- The Banner XL will be visible to users with a screen resolution of 1280px wide or higher, L for screens 1279px-1024px wide, M for screens 1023px-768px wide, and S for screens 767px wide or less.
HTML5 Requirements
- HTML5 Pushdown creative can only be served by an approved third-party vendor. First-party serving is not available.
- HTML5 creative served via an approved third-party must delivered via javascript or iframe tag. Raw files will not be accepted.
- The file weight above applies to all HTML5 files and assets including images, HTML/JS/CSS files, custom fonts, or other assets.
- HTML5 creative requires a minimum lead time of five business days for testing and approval.
