The Pre-Roll features a 6, 15, or 30 second clip that runs before the video content on ESPN.com with an advertising message.
- Standard Pre-Roll on ESPN supports VAST and VPAID.
- Pre-Roll creative can run across all of ESPN's platforms, including desktop, mobile web, OTT, and apps.

Video Encoding Specifications
- Stream type: .mp4 (h.264); .m3u8 files not allowed
- RTMP protocols are not supported and must be removed from the VAST tag
- Frame rate: 29.97 fps
- Bitrate: At least one video creative 1500kbps or less is required.

Note: The VAST response may include multiple MP4 files. If serving to both Pre-Roll and Mid-Roll video, one low-resolution and one high-resolution video must be included. Low-resolution must be below 1500kbps while the higher resolution MP4 should be between 2000-30000 kbps. For example:

- Creative targeted directly to YouTube is subject to YouTube's own acceptance policy. VAST is only accepted on a case-by-case basis. If VAST tags do not "PASS" using the following tool, site-served creative will be requested. https://ytvastqa.appspot.com/
- Skippable video creative are not accepted.
VPAID Requirements
File Formats
VPAID creative must contain an HTML5 creative. ESPN's desktop and mobile web video players are HTML5 compliant. Example XML response:

YouTube Video Requirements
YouTube Site Served
- Video must be uploaded to YouTube. Videos must be public or unlisted with embedding enabled.
- Length: 6s for bumper ads or 15s for non-skippable ads. Skippable video creative are not accepted.
YouTube Third-Party Served
- Must be VAST 3.0 and SSL compliant.
- H.264 format MP4 video up to 30fps. MP3 or AAC audio accepted.
- 10MB maximum file size.
- Length: 6s for bumper ads or 15s for non-skippable ads.
- 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratio videos are accepted. 720p or below is required, the optional inclusion of 1080p is recommended.
- Must contain at least one media file under 1000kps bitrate.
