Even though he's only played one year of college football, Virginia Tech running back Ryan Williams has been tabbed by ESPN NFL draft analyst Todd McShay as one of the top-10 prospects in the 2011 draft.
Williams, the ACC Rookie of the Year last season, would be eligible for the draft because he redshirted his first season at Virginia Tech. The ironic thing is that he probably went into last season No. 3 on the Hokies' depth chart.
But with Darren Evans going down with a knee injury, Williams quickly shot to the top of the depth chart and finished fifth nationally with 1,655 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns.
McShay thinks Williams will be a legitimate first-round pick next year if he "builds on last year's momentum and erases any doubt regarding his ball security."
McShay has Williams ranked as the No. 8 prospect in 2011 among offensive players. Williams is the lone ACC player in McShay's top 10.
