Thanks to the sports information directors throughout the league, here are a few ACC facts you can brag to your friends about:
HOKIES' SCHEDULE SECOND TO NONE
Virginia Tech’s first nine opponents have a winning record heading into this weekend’s play. Virginia Tech is the only FBS school out of 120 teams that can lay claim to this as every other team in the country has played at least one team with a .500 record or a losing record. Virginia Tech’s nine opponents have a combined record of 58-24, and the Hokies’ schedule is ranked as the fi fth-toughest in the country by the Sagarin Rankings.
O'BRIEN MR. NOVEMBER
Including last week’s win over Maryland, NC State is 7-2 during November under coach Tom O'Brien, including a 4-0 record during the month in 2008. It's when the Pack is at its best. It's the comeback month. NC State has won only two of it’s 10 games in October since 2007.
40 IS THE NEW 30?
When Clemson scored its 40th point last Saturday against Florida State, it marked the 25th time an ACC team has topped the 40-point mark this year. That ties the all-time high for 40-point performances for ACC football. The record was set in 1999. Though the original mark was set when the ACC had fewer teams and, thus, fewer possible games, this year’s total was established in close to the same number of opportunities. ACC teams had 105 opportunities to score 40 (.238 per game) in 1999, and the Clemson-FSU game was the 110th appearance for an ACC team in 2009 (.227 per game). The percentage of 40-point games is the second-highest in ACC history with three weeks remaining in the season.
