Tannenbaum addresses Favre injury revelation

Posted by ESPN.com's Tim Graham

New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum responded to Brett Favre's comments that the club knew he had a torn right biceps "with four or five games left" last season but wouldn't bench him.

Tannebaum said the decision to stick with Favre was made in concert with head coach Eric Mangini, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and quarterbacks coach Brian Daboll.

"After we all talked about it, we felt Brett gave us the best chance to win and that was the decision we made," Tannenbaum said Thursday at a news conference.

The Jets also kept Favre off their injury list, a possible NFL rules violation.

"I will take responsibility for that," Tannenbaum said. "As the general manager of this team, I should have handled that differently and listed him on the report.

"We did not just because he was not getting treatment every day, and we knew he was going to play. Looking back on it, I should have listed him as probable and we did not. I will take responsibility for that."
