Flashbacks of Henne vs. Sanchez debate

Remember when there was intense debate in the AFC East blog about which quarterback was better: Chad Henne or Mark Sanchez? Miami Dolphins and New York Jets fans couldn't get enough of these young gunslingers. They were expected to develop and eventually challenge Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in the AFC East.

Well, all of that seems laughable now.

It turns out neither the Dolphins nor the Jets had a franchise quarterback. Both embattled players will meet Sunday when Henne's new team, the Jacksonville Jaguars, hosts the Jets. Henne is 3-1 versus Sanchez in their careers.

But Henne never panned out in Miami and wasn't re-signed in free agency. The Dolphins drafted quarterback Ryan Tannehill in the first round as Henne's replacement. The Jets are still sputtering with Sanchez in his fourth season. New York mistakenly offered Sanchez a big extension in March, which guaranteed an $8.25 million salary in 2013. With those numbers, New York could be stuck with Sanchez again next year.

Who is better between these two? It doesn't really matter, because neither player is a franchise quarterback.

Henne and Sanchez once offered optimism for AFC East fans. But the label of "potential" is long overdue. Both quarterbacks are officially busts.
