AFC North is middle of pack in popularity

The AFC North division is semi-popular. Well, let's be more accurate: the Pittsburgh Steelers are very popular while the rest of the division is not.

According to the first quarter 2012 ESPN Sports Poll of fans' favorite teams, the Steelers tied the Super Bowl champion New York Giants for third place. The Cleveland Browns (22nd), Baltimore Ravens (23rd) and Cincinnati Bengals (30th) all ranked in the bottom dozen.

In fact, the percentage of callers that named the Steelers as their favorite team (7.1 percent) is more than the combined percentages for the Browns (1.4 percent), Ravens (1.3 percent) and Bengals (.8 percent). That's worth waving your Terrible Towel about.

This shouldn't come as a surprise. The Steelers have a storied tradition and a national following. The only teams who are ranked higher than the Steelers are the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers.

On the other end of the poll, only the St. Louis Rams and Jacksonville Jaguars ranked lower than the Bengals.
