LATROBE, Pa. -- The Pittsburgh Steelers always know where Joey Porter is during training camp.
The outside linebackers coach is impossible to miss as he drives around Saint Vincent College in a customized, Los Angeles Lakers-inspired golf cart, complete with pictures of Lakers greats from different eras – Magic, Worthy and Kareem on the right rear side; Kobe, Shaq, Phil Jackson and Derek Fisher on the left rear.
Porter, the former Steelers linebacker who had 98 career sacks, is from Bakersfield, California.
"That thing is nice," outside linebacker Bud Dupree said. "He's got Kobe on it. He's got his kids on it."
On the front, there's a picture with Porter in a Steelers No. 55 uniform with his kids emblazoned to his right.
Porter was not made available for comment this week. But former teammate Charlie Batch said Porter has always rocked Lakers gear and has had the golf cart for a while.
Batch is a Pistons fan from his days as Eastern Michigan's quarterback. Is Porter's ride in poor taste?
"Probably, but he keeps rolling with it," Batch said with a laugh.
Porter is willing to share the ride. Defensive coordinator Keith Butler drove it to lunch the other day while Porter was out of town.
