NEW ORLEANS -- Allen Hurns' 20-yard touchdown catch with less than two minutes to play had no bearing in the Jacksonville Jaguars' 38-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday afternoon.

But it did have some historical significance.

That reception put Hurns over 1,000 yards this season, which gives the Jaguars two 1,000-yard receivers (the other is Allen Robinson) for the first time since Jimmy Smith and Keenan McCardell in 2001. He now has 1,013 yards receiving to go along with 10 touchdowns after he caught eight passes for 106 yards and two scores against the Saints.

"We didn’t get the win today but it’s really a big accomplishment, just showing how we progressed from year one to year two," Hurns said.

Hurns said he and Robinson were motivated to have big seasons because of the offseason talk about adding another receiver, whether by signing a veteran in free agency (the Jaguars had prepared to pursue Randall Cobb until he re-signed with Green Bay) or in the draft (Amari Cooper was a possibility at No. 3). That annoyed the two second-year players, and Hurns said that each week they're sending the message that there's more to come.

"This offseason we both stayed [in Jacksonville] putting in the work and competed with each other," Hurns said. "Coming into the year the talk was we need to draft a receiver, we need a veteran receiver. We took that personal, so each time we’re out there on the field we’re letting people know that we’re going to continue to make plays and it’s only the beginning for us."
