Moving on: San Diego Chargers

Here are some areas the San Diego Chargers need to focus on after a 35-21 loss at New England on Sunday:

Recap: The Chargers were in this game, but they made too many mistakes on offense and weren’t competitive enough on defense to win at one of the most difficult venues in the NFL. I don’t think we should worry that the Chargers are going to start slowly because of this effort. The Chargers, 1-1, were in a for a challenge Sunday. But they do have to fix some issues moving forward. Yet, San Diego can feel good knowing it could have easily walked out of New England with a win.

Biggest area to fix: I know Tom Brady is the best player in the league. Giving up 423 passing yards to him isn’t the end of the world. But he passed at will. The Chargers didn’t really challenge him. If the Chargers are going to make a long playoff run, they must be tougher against the pass.

Biggest area to build on: The Chargers moved the ball well. This offense can shuffle down the field. San Diego got into New England territory on all eight of its possessions. It punted just once. But mistakes kept the Chargers to 21 points. Yet, his team knows it can move the ball.

What to watch for: The Chargers can get better in a hurry. They host Kansas City and Miami in the next two weeks. Both teams are 0-2. If the Chargers leave the first quarter of the season 3-1, they will feel good about themselves.
