I caught up Wednesday evening with Matt Williamson of Scouts Inc. to get his thoughts on the Raiders’ trade for Seattle linebacker Aaron Curry.
Oakland gave the Seahawks a seventh-round pick next year and a conditional pick in 2013 for the No. 4 overall pick in the 2009 draft. Seattle basically gave Curry away. He lost his starting job to a rookie and there was a sense the team wanted to rid itself of a talented player, who rarely produced.
Still, Williamson thinks acquiring Curry was a low-risk, worthwhile endeavor. Curry was a non-pass-rushing strongside linebacker in Seattle. However, Williamson thinks it’s worth looking at him as a weakside linebacker where he could compete with Quentin Groves.
“I would not object to any team adding him,” Williamson said. “He has a very diverse skill set. Seattle has not handled him well at all from a scheme perspective and he deserves his share of the blame too for not living up to expectations. But Curry seems like a terrific risk for Oakland or for just about anyone else.”
In other AFC West nuggets Wednesday evening:
It looks like Denver receiver Eddie Royal could be ready to play at Miami on Oct. 23 in the Broncos’ first game after their bye. He has been out since Week 2 with a groin injury.
The Chargers did something Sunday they didn’t do since the 1970s.
