San Diego Chargers: Moving on

Here are some areas the San Diego Chargers need to focus on after a 45-38 home loss to the Green Bay Packers:

Recap: The Chargers lost their third straight game. And again, it was a game they could have won. San Diego continued to make too many offensive miscues, keeping it from winning. The Chargers are now 4-4 and they are stuck in a three-way tie for first place with Kansas City and Oakland.

Biggest area to fix: Quarterback Philip Rivers' play. Rivers is making a lot of big plays. But he is also making critical mistakes. In each of the past three losses, Rivers made crucial fourth-quarter errors. Until Rivers starts to clear up his mistakes, the Chargers’ offense will be out of sync.

Biggest area to build on: Receiver Vincent Jackson and tight end Antonio Gates came on strong Sunday. Jackson had been especially struggling with only 10 catches in the past four games. Sunday Jackson had seven receptions for 141 yards and also had three touchdown catches. Gates had eight catches for 96 yards and a touchdown. These weapons will help Rivers get out of his funk.

What to watch for: The Chargers have to shake the sting of the three biting losses and rebound for a critical home game against Oakland on Thursday.
